Weird EDD message 'claim year ended' right after new claim approval - do I have to reapply AGAIN?
Hey everyone, I'm completely baffled by what's happening with my EDD account right now. I had an old claim from 2024 that was denied (had issues with eligibility or something). After that whole mess, I filed a new claim in August 2025 and was actually approved this time - hallelujah! The EDD rep specifically told me they closed my old problematic claim and confirmed my new one was active.\n\nBut when I logged in yesterday to do my first certification, the system is saying my "claim year has ended" and that I need to reapply! How is this possible when I JUST got approved like 2 weeks ago?? Has anyone dealt with this bizarre situation before? I absolutely cannot deal with filing ANOTHER application and waiting another month+ for processing. Is this just a system glitch? Wrong message? Please tell me I don't have to start from scratch again!

omg the EXACT same thing happnd to me last yr!!! eDD systems are total garbage. mine said the same thing after just being approved and i panicked and reaplied. BIG mistake. ended up with two claims in the systm and took 10 weeks to sort out. DON'T REAPPLY YET.

Oh great... that sounds like a nightmare! So what did you end up doing to fix it? Should I just ignore the message and try to certify anyway?

This is usually just a system error that happens when they close one claim and open another in a short timeframe. The database gets confused about which claim status to display. When did you get your award letter for the new claim?

I got the award letter in the mail about 10 days ago, and the online account showed the approval about 2 days before that. The letter had the correct benefit amount and everything.

EDD ALWAYS does this! Their systems are deliberately designed to confuse people and trick them into reapplying so they can delay benefits!!! It's CRIMINAL how they treat people who are just trying to get what they're entitled to. I had THREE claims open at once because of their ridiculous system errors and almost got flagged for fraud even though THEY caused the problem!!!

I know it feels that way, but it's really just outdated computer systems. The EDD isn't deliberately trying to deny people benefits. They're just overwhelmed and using technology from like 1992.

This is a common technical issue when there are overlapping claim periods or a previous claim in the system. Here's what you should do:\n\n1. DON'T file a new application yet\n2. Call EDD and explain exactly what happened (old denied claim, new approved claim, and now seeing the 'claim year ended' message)\n3. Ask them to check if there's a technical conflict between the old and new claims in their system\n4. Have your award letter ready with the claim date and amount\n\nThis is typically fixed with a simple account adjustment by a tier 2 specialist. The regular representatives often can't see or fix this specific database issue.

I had good luck using Claimyr when I had a similar situation happen with my claim. It helps you get through to an EDD agent usually within 5-10 minutes instead of calling 50+ times. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km\n\nDefinitely get a live person, because this sounds exactly like what happened to me - conflicting claim records in their system. The rep needed to manually override something to fix it. Their website is claimyr.com if you're interested.

One of my friends used that service and said it actually worked. I was skeptical but she got through to EDD in like 7 minutes when she'd been trying for days on her own.

Thanks for the tip! I'll check it out if I can't get through tomorrow. At this point I'd try anything to avoid reapplying and waiting another month without benefits.

Quick question - when you try to certify, does it actually let you complete the certification or does it block you completely? Sometimes the message appears but you can still certify.

Thank you so much! That's incredibly helpful. I've written down these exact questions to ask. I'll update once I manage to get through to someone. Really appreciate the expert advice!

My husbands cousions wife had this happen and she just waited 3 days and logged back in and the system was fixed! Sometimes EDD just has delays in there system updates. Maybe try waiting?

It's been about 5 days since I first saw the message, and I've been checking every day. Still showing the same thing unfortunately. But thanks for the suggestion!

Finally got it resolved! I used the Claimyr service someone recommended here and got through to EDD in about 15 minutes. The first rep couldn't help but transferred me to a specialist. They confirmed exactly what people here said - my old claim was still partially active in one of their systems even though it showed as closed in another. They had to manually disconnect the old claim and refresh my account. I was able to certify right after the call. Such a relief!
