EDD marked all weeks 'disqualified' after address change - prior claim ended months ago

I'm totally confused about what's happening with my EDD account. My previous unemployment claim expired in December 2024. I'm eligible to file a new claim in July 2025 (next month), so I decided to update my address in the system since I moved recently. I logged into UI Online about two weeks ago, changed my address, and submitted all the verification they requested. But this morning I got a letter from EDD, and when I checked my account, I noticed all the weeks from my PREVIOUS claim now show 'disqualified'! These were weeks that were already paid months ago. Has anyone experienced this? Is this some kind of system glitch because I updated my address? I'm really worried they're going to ask for all that money back or that it will affect my new claim next month.

Thanks for responding! It's been more than 3 days already though... almost 2 weeks since I updated my address. Did you have to do anything to get it fixed or did it just update on its own?

This is likely just a display issue in the UI Online system. When you make major account changes like address updates, sometimes the system temporarily shows incorrect statuses while processing. Since these weeks were from a claim that already ended and payments were issued months ago, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. The disqualification status should revert once the system finishes processing your address change. As a precaution, take screenshots of what you're seeing now in case you need to reference it later. This shouldn't affect your new claim in July at all.

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation! That makes me feel a lot better. I'll grab some screenshots right now just to be safe. Really appreciate it.

Are you 100% sure all those weeks actually got paid back then? Sometimes EDD will retroactively disqualify weeks if they found an eligibility issue during a later review. Did you get any other notices besides just seeing the status change?

Yes, I'm positive they were paid - I received and spent that money months ago. The only notice I got was a generic letter saying there was an update to my account, but when I logged in, that's when I saw the 'disqualified' statuses.

I went through something similar last year! It's so stressful seeing everything suddenly marked as disqualified. In my case, I had to call EDD to get it fixed because it DIDN'T resolve itself automatically. I spent THREE DAYS trying to get through on the phone before finally connecting with someone who could help. They told me it was just a glitch in their system that happens sometimes when you update personal information. The rep fixed it while I was on the phone with them. I'd recommend trying to call them if it doesn't resolve in the next couple days. The disqualification status could potentially cause problems when you file your new claim next month.

Oh no, that's what I was afraid of! I've tried calling EDD twice already today and couldn't get through - just got the message about too many callers. I'll keep trying though. Did they explain why it happened to you?

This is actually a known issue with the EDD system when updating addresses on inactive claims. Here's what's happening: when you update your address, the system sometimes re-processes old claim information, which can temporarily change status displays. Since your claim ended in December, and those payments were already issued, you don't need to worry about repayment. However, you should definitely get this fixed before filing your new claim in July to prevent any complications. If you're having trouble reaching EDD on the phone, I recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that helps you get through to an EDD representative without the endless redial frustration. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Once you reach a representative, specifically ask them to check if your address change triggered a "claim review flag" and to remove the disqualification statuses from your previous claim.

the EDD SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY BROKEN!!!! i had the EXACT same thing happen but they actually TOOK BACK all my money from my account after i updated my phone number!!! had to fight for 3 MONTHS to get it back. the whole system needs to be thrown away and rebuilt from scratch!!!!

That's terrifying! Did they actually withdraw money from your bank account, or was it just that they said you owed it back? I'm worried about this happening to me now too.

Just wanted to update everyone - I used that Claimyr service someone mentioned earlier and actually got through to EDD this morning! The representative confirmed it was just a display glitch in their system because of my address change. She fixed it right on the spot, and now all my previous weeks show the correct 'paid' status again. She also noted in my account that this was resolved so it won't affect my new claim next month. Such a relief! If anyone else is experiencing this, definitely try to speak with a rep directly rather than waiting for it to fix itself.

That's great news! Thanks for coming back to update us. This is a good reminder that many EDD online display issues can be quickly resolved by speaking directly with a representative. Glad everything worked out for you.

This is exactly what I needed to see! I'm dealing with the same issue right now - updated my address last week and suddenly all my old weeks from my previous claim are showing as disqualified. It's been keeping me up at night worrying they'll want the money back. Reading that Jayden got it resolved so quickly through Claimyr gives me hope. I'm definitely going to try that service tomorrow. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - this community is so helpful!

@Drew Hathaway I m'so glad this thread helped ease your worries! I was in the exact same boat as you and Alexis just a few weeks ago. The anxiety of seeing those disqualified "statuses" is terrible, especially when you know you legitimately received and spent that money months ago. Definitely try Claimyr - it seems like it s'been a game changer for people trying to actually reach EDD. Keep us posted on how it goes for you!

@Drew Hathaway You re'definitely not alone in this! I went through the same panic when I saw all my old weeks suddenly marked as disqualified after updating my info. The worst part is that sinking feeling that they might demand repayment for benefits you received months ago and have already spent. But based on what everyone s'shared here, it really does seem to be just a system glitch that happens when you make account changes. The fact that Jayden got it resolved so quickly with one phone call is really reassuring. Good luck with Claimyr tomorrow - hopefully you ll'have the same quick resolution!
