EDD denying my claim saying no wage contributions - they're mixing up my 2021 and 2024 claims!
I'm getting really frustrated with the EDD right now! I submitted my unemployment claim on June 8, 2024, and received mail confirmation that they got it about a week later. Everything seemed fine until I called today to check on the status. The rep told me they're showing 'no record of contributions' in their system! I'm 100% certain they're confusing my current claim with an old one from 2021 (when I was between jobs and worked mostly gig work). I've been steadily employed at the same company for nearly 3 years until my layoff last month, and I have ALL my pay stubs showing wage contributions were definitely made. Has anyone dealt with EDD mixing up current and past claims? What's the fastest way to get this fixed? My rent is due next week and I'm getting desperate!

This happens more than you'd think. Two things you need to do immediately: 1) File an appeal using the DE 1000M form - check the box for 'Wages' as the issue. 2) Send copies (NOT originals) of your pay stubs through UI Online under 'Contact EDD'. Make sure to include a cover letter explaining the situation clearly, including your SSN, the start/end dates of your employment, and specifically state they're confusing your 2021 and 2024 claims. This happened to me earlier this year and the appeal + documentation got it fixed in about 3 weeks.

•Thank you!! I didn't even know about the DE 1000M form. Do I need to mail that in or can I submit it online? And for the pay stubs, should I send ALL of them from the last 18 months or just a sample from each quarter?

•EDD is ALWAYS doing this. Their system is completely broken. They denied my claim 3 times before someone finally fixed it. I swear they hope people just give up so they don't have to pay.

You need to specifically request an "Affidavit of Wages" investigation. This is different from a regular appeal and gets processed faster. When you call, tell them you need to speak with a tier 2 specialist about an "Affidavit of Wages" for your base period (which would be Jan 2023-Dec 2023 based on your June 2024 filing date). The regular reps often don't know what to do with wage discrepancies. Also, contact your employer's HR and ask them to verify with EDD that they reported your wages correctly. Sometimes the problem isn't EDD confusing claims but employers not properly reporting quarterly wages to EDD.

•This is super helpful info - thank you! I had no idea about the "Affidavit of Wages" option. I tried calling again today but couldn't get through after 2 hours of trying. I'll keep at it though and ask for that tier 2 specialist specifically when I do.

•Most EDD offices are still appointment-only since the pandemic, and those appointments are booked out 2-3 weeks. While in-person is best for complex issues, it's not always the fastest option when you need immediate help. Better to pursue multiple channels simultaneously.

After trying for weeks to reach someone at EDD about a similar issue (they had my wages but under the wrong employer), I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to a tier 2 specialist in less than 30 minutes. They have this system that navigates the phone tree and holds your place in line, then calls you when an agent is available. Their video demo shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. This saved me weeks of frustration and my claim was resolved that same day once I could actually talk to someone with authority to fix wage issues.

•Wait, seriously? That sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else used this Claimyr thing? I've been calling all morning and still can't get through.

•I used it last month. It works but make sure you have all your documentation ready BEFORE you get the call back. The agents don't wait around.

Im kinda confused - when you say 'no record of contributions' do you mean wages or do you mean something else? Because contributions are what employers pay into the system, not what shows on your paystub. Wages and contributions are different things in the UI system. Maybe your employer didn't pay their UI tax? My husbands boss didnt pay the UI tax and he had to prove his income with tax returns not paystubs.

•Good catch. To clarify for OP: "Contributions" in EDD terminology refers to what employers pay into the UI fund. What matters for your claim are your "wages" reported by employers. When EDD says "no record of contributions," they typically mean they don't see reported wages in their system for your base period quarters. This could be because: 1) They're looking at the wrong timeframe (mixing up claims), 2) Your employer failed to report your wages properly, or 3) There's a system error matching your SSN to your wage records.

this is why i always keep evrything from my jobs, every stub, every letter, my w2s, even emails from bosses. edd is always losing stuff or getting confused. same with medi-cal. all these government agencies are the same, total mess. good luck bro

•Yeah, lesson learned the hard way. I have my pay stubs but I'm realizing I should have better organized ALL my employment docs over the years.

UPDATE FOR EVERYONE: The process for submitting wage corrections has changed in 2023-2024. You need to follow these steps: 1. Submit your wage info through UI Online under "New Information" 2. Call and request a "Base Period Wage Investigation" (not just any wage correction) 3. Follow up with the Base Period Investigation Unit directly at the special number 1-866-401-2849, which bypasses the regular customer service I went through all this in April and it worked. The regular EDD reps often don't know about the Base Period unit and will tell you incorrect procedures.

•THANK YOU!!! Just called that number and got right through to someone! They confirmed they were looking at my 2021 claim info instead of my current wages. They're going to expedite a wage investigation and said I should see an update within 5-7 business days. This was incredibly helpful!

•That's amazing news @GamerGirl99! So glad that direct number worked for you. It's frustrating how the regular customer service doesn't seem to know about these specialized units. Hopefully this helps other people in similar situations - definitely saving that number for future reference. Keep us posted on how the wage investigation goes!
