ESD approved benefits letter but weekly claims still show disqualified - what to do?
I'm totally confused about my unemployment status right now. I've been out of work since May 2025, and just yesterday received an approval letter from ESD saying my benefits are approved starting October 15, 2025. But when I logged in today to file my weekly claim, it still shows 'Disqualified' status. Even worse, all my previous weekly claims since May still say 'Disqualified' too! I've been waiting for months already and thought the approval letter meant I'd finally start getting paid. Does anyone know what's going on? Do I need to call ESD? Is there something else I'm supposed to do to get the 'Disqualified' status changed? This is so frustrating because I really need the benefits to cover rent next month.

This happens sometimes with ESD's system not updating properly. The approval letter is official, but there's often a lag between when they make the decision and when the online system updates. Since you have an official approval letter with a specific start date, I'd recommend waiting 3-5 business days to see if the system updates on its own. If it doesn't update by then, you definitely need to contact ESD directly to have them fix the discrepancy. Make sure to have your approval letter handy when you call because they'll want the reference number from it.

•Thanks for the advice! Do you think I should still keep filing my weekly claims even though they're showing as disqualified? I don't want to miss out on any payments while waiting for this to get fixed.

OMG the SAME EXACT THING happened to me back in July!!! The system is totally broken. I got my approval letter and was so happy then logged in and everything still said DISQUALIFIED. I waited for like 2 weeks thinking it would update itself but NOPE. I finally had to call and it took FOREVER to get through but when I finally did the agent fixed it right away. They said something about the 'adjudication flag' not being removed from my account even though the decision was made. They can fix it in like 2 minutes once you actually talk to someone!!!

•You've hit the nail on the head here - it's that adjudication flag issue. The ESD computer system requires manual intervention to remove disqualification flags even after a decision letter goes out. The adjudicator makes the decision, but sometimes forgets to update the system flags. A 5-minute call can fix it, but getting through is the hard part.

•That's a relief to hear! I was worried those weeks might be lost forever. I'll definitely keep filing even with the disqualified status showing.

After trying for 3 straight days to reach ESD about a similar issue (mine was showing 'pending' instead of 'disqualified' but same problem), I used Claimyr to get through to an agent immediately. Found them at claimyr.com and watched their demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 before trying. Got connected to an ESD agent within 20 minutes instead of dealing with busy signals for days. The agent explained that approval letters and system status often don't sync up automatically, and they fixed my account right away. Worth considering if you can't get through on your own after a few days.

This is a common issue with ESD's claim management system. Here's what's happening: When your claim was in adjudication, a disqualification flag was placed on your claim. When the adjudicator approved your benefits, they sent out the approval letter, but sometimes they forget to remove the system flag in the computer. What you need to do: 1. Absolutely continue filing weekly claims even while showing as disqualified 2. Call ESD at 833-572-8400 and specifically explain that you received an approval letter but your online status still shows disqualified 3. Have your approval letter ready with the date and reference number 4. Use the exact phrase "I need the disqualification flag removed from my account" Once they remove the flag, all your properly filed weekly claims that fall within your benefit year should change from disqualified to paid, usually within 48 hours. The good news is this is just an administrative error that's fixable with one phone call.

•Thank you so much for the detailed explanation! That makes so much more sense now. I'll start calling tomorrow morning with my approval letter ready. Fingers crossed I can get through to someone.

The same thing is happening to me right now but my letter said I'm approved starting November 1st. I've been trying to call ESD but it's impossible to get through! I've been hung up on 8 times already this week. Did you get this resolved yet? Did you have to do anything special to get someone on the phone?

•Try calling right when they open at 8am. Thats what i did and only had to wait 25 mins instead of getting hung up on

UPDATE: I finally got through to ESD this morning! The agent confirmed exactly what you all said - the approval went through in their system but the disqualification flag wasn't removed. She fixed it while I was on the phone and said all my weekly claims should update to 'paid' status within 2-3 business days. She also said I should receive all the back payments for the weeks that were showing as disqualified (but that I had filed for) in one lump sum. Such a relief! For anyone else dealing with this issue, definitely call and specifically mention the 'disqualification flag' - that seemed to help the agent understand exactly what needed to be fixed.

•YES!!! So happy for you! Watch your bank account in the next few days - that lump sum payment is gonna feel AMAZING after waiting so long! It took mine exactly 2 days to show up after they fixed the flag.
