SDI claim filed 2 weeks ago for spouse care, no updates - how to check status with CA EDD?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I filed for SDI a couple weeks ago because I'm taking care of my spouse after their surgery. Thing is, I haven't heard a peep about my claim or when I might see some money. Anyone else dealing with this? I'm starting to get worried cause bills are piling up and I need to know if I'm getting paid soon. Any advice on how to check the status or speed things up?

Welcome to the wonderful world of EDD! 🙃 Buckle up, cause you're in for a wild ride. I filed for SDI 2 months ago and still crickets. Its like they enjoy watching us squirm

Oh man, 2 months? That's rough. How are you managing?

Barely. Eating ramen and praying to the EDD gods. But hey, at least I'm an expert at phone tag now! 🏆

Hang in there! It's tough, but remember, you're not alone in this.

Pro tip: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every email. You never know when you'll need to prove you've been trying to resolve this. Cover your ass!

Agreed. Keeping records saved me a couple of times.

Ugh, I feel you. I'm in the same boat, waiting on SDI for my pregnancy. Its been 6 weeks and radio silence. This system is so broken 😫

6 weeks? That's insane! How are expectant mothers supposed to manage?

Right?! It's like they expect us to photosynthesize or something 🌱

I heard they are trying to improve the system, but change seems to happen at a snail's pace.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com/?ref=red

$20 just to talk to someone? That's highway robbery! 😤

Idk man, sounds kinda sketchy. How do we know it's legit?

I get the skepticism, but honestly, after spending hours trying to get through, $20 was worth it to me. Saved me a ton of time and stress. But yeah, do your own research!

I used Claimyr too, and it worked for me as well. It's not for everyone, but if time is money, it could be worth it.

Plot twist: EDD is actually run by a bunch of sloths 🦥 Explains the speed of processing claims!

Hey now, that's an insult to sloths! At least they're cute 😂

Nah, its clearly a group of internet explorer browsers masquerading as a government agency

To be fair, they have a lot of claims to process but it would be nice if they sped things up!

Okay, listen up. I've been through this rodeo before and here's what you need to do: 1. Keep calling. I know it sucks, but persistence is key. 2. Have all your info ready when you call - claim number, dates, etc. 3. Be polite but firm with the rep. They're overworked too. 4. If you can, try to call right when they open. Less wait time. 5. Check your online account daily for updates. 6. Make sure you've submitted all required docs. Sometimes they need more info but don't tell you. 7. If you're really desperate, contact your local assembly member. They can sometimes expedite things. Remember, the system is broken, not you. Hang in there!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely try calling again tomorrow morning.

The assembly member tip is legit. They helped me get my claim unstuck after 3 months of nothing.

Would add that sometimes social media can also help. EDD has Twitter and Facebook and sometimes they're responsive there.

Have you tried faxing your documents? I know it sounds like we're back in 1995, but sometimes that gets faster results than online submissions. Worth a shot! 📠

Have you tried calling them? Sometimes you gotta be persistent and keep dialing until you get through. It sucks, but its the only way to get answers sometimes.

I tried calling once but got transferred to unemployment instead of disability. Super frustrating!

Classic EDD move. They love playing hot potato with our calls 🥔

You might want to try during non-peak hours. Sometimes you'll get luckier getting through.

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes EDD emails end up there. Also, make sure your address is up to date in the system. I've heard horror stories of important docs getting lost in the mail.
