SDI payment delay after submitting continued claim form - what to do?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my SDI benefits. I submitted my continued claim form over a week ago, but still haven't seen any payment hit my account. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm starting to get worried because bills are piling up. Any advice on what I should do next or how long I should wait before contacting them?

Hey, former EDD employee here. Here's some insider advice: 1. Make sure your form was filled out 100% correctly. Even small errors can cause delays. 2. If you have access to a fax machine, fax a copy of your form along with a cover letter explaining your situation. Include your claim number on every page. 3. Call right at 8:00 AM when the lines open. If you can't get through, try again at 11:55 AM or 4:55 PM when staff are coming back from lunch or about to end their shift. 4. If all else fails, contact your local state representative's office. They often have liaisons who can escalate cases. Remember, the staff are overwhelmed too. Be patient and polite, it goes a long way.

Wow, thank you so much for this insider info! I'll definitely try these tips. Quick question - is there a specific fax number I should use?

The fax number can vary depending on your specific claim type and location. Check your claim documents or the EDD website for the correct number. Good luck!

unpopular opinion: maybe we should just get rid of the whole SDI system and start over from scratch. this patchwork mess clearly isn't working for anyone

And replace it with what? The problem isn't the system, it's the lack of funding and staff.

Idk man, but there's gotta be a better way. Maybe look at how other countries do it?

A full overhaul would be quite complex, but learning from other systems could provide valuable insights.

Hey OP, hang in there. I know it's tough, but it will get sorted eventually. In the meantime, have you looked into any local resources for temporary assistance? Some cities have emergency funds or food banks that might help tide you over.

Great suggestion. Many local charities and organizations are willing to help in times of need.

I'm down! We need to make some noise about this. It's affecting too many people.

Idk man, protests never seem to change anything. We need to vote for better leaders.

Why not both? Protest AND vote. We gotta use every tool in the toolbox 🛠️

Both are valid approaches. Change can sometimes come from persistent outcry and action.

Have you checked if there were any changes to the SDI program recently? Sometimes they update stuff and don't tell anyone. Might be worth looking into.

Great point! I would also check their website or social media for announcements.

This happened to me too! Turns out there was a glitch in their system and my form didn't actually go through even though I got a confirmation. Double-check your online account to make sure it shows as submitted.

Good call. I once had to resubmit my form because of a glitch like that.

have you tried faxing your forms? i know it sounds old school, but sometimes it works faster than online submission. just a thought 🤷♂️

I've actually had success with faxing too. It seems to be less crowded than the online system.

Pro tip: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every online submission. You never know when you might need to prove you've been trying to resolve this. CYA always!

Hey OP, it can be really stressful dealing with delays in SDI benefits, especially when bills are piling up. While some people have reported useful solutions like using Claimyr for faster phone access to EDD, make sure to assess whether the cost of such services fits your budget. It's also a good idea to try the steps advised by others, such as calling early, checking for system updates or errors, and even faxing your documents. If you're still facing issues, contacting your local representative might help escalate the matter. Remember to document all interactions for future reference. Ultimately, persistence and patience are key. Good luck!

Ugh, welcome to the club. I've been waiting for almost a month now. The system is so broken, it's ridiculous. Have you tried calling them? Good luck getting through tho 🙄

I know the feeling. I actually spent hours on hold one day and gave up. Really hoping they improve their system soon.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. How does it actually work?

It's legit! They basically have a system that calls and navigates the menu for you. When a real person picks up, it connects to your phone. Saved me hours of hold time.

I get it, but for me, it was worth it. Time is money, and I was wasting whole days trying to get through.

I've heard good things about Claimyr, but it's unfortunate we have to resort to paid services to access what should be a free government service.

Has anyone tried the SDI mobile app? I heard it's supposed to be faster, but idk if that's true or just more government BS 🤔

Plot twist: what if the SDI office is actually run by squirrels and that's why everything takes so long? 🐿️📄🥜

I was in the same boat last month. Here's what worked for me: 1. Double-check your online account to make sure there are no pending tasks or messages. 2. Call them first thing in the morning, like right when they open. You might have to try a few days in a row. 3. If you can't get through, try sending a message through your online account. Sometimes they respond faster that way. 4. Make sure you have all your paperwork ready when you do get through. They might ask for additional info. Don't give up! It's frustrating, but persistence pays off. Good luck!

This is great advice. I'd also add: keep a log of all your calls and attempts to contact them. It might come in handy if things drag on.
