SDI claim taking forever - need advice on speeding up process
Hey everyone, I'm having some trouble with my SDI claim. I filed a while back and haven't heard anything. Does anyone know how long it usually takes to get a response? I'm starting to get worried about my finances and could really use some advice on what to do next.

Ugh, I feel ya. I've been waiting on my SDI claim for like 2 months now. It's ridiculous how long they make us wait. Have you tried calling them? I heard that sometimes helps speed things up.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried calling but can never get through. It's so frustrating! How did you manage to reach someone?

Honestly, I haven't had any luck either. I've been calling every day for weeks and always get the busy signal. It's like they don't want us to talk to a real person 🙄

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 minutes on hold that way!

SDI claims can take anywhere from 2-4 weeks to process, but with the current backlog, it's not uncommon for it to take up to 8 weeks or more. Here's what you can do: 1. Keep checking your online account for updates 2. Make sure all your paperwork is complete and accurate 3. If it's been more than 8 weeks, try to contact them through their online portal 4. Consider reaching out to your local state representative for help Hang in there, the system is overwhelmed but they will get to your claim eventually!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed response! I'll definitely try reaching out through the online portal. Do you know if there's a specific way to word my message to get a faster response?

Glad I could help! When messaging them, be concise and include your claim number, the date you filed, and any specific questions you have. Avoid emotional language and stick to the facts. Good luck!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

20 bucks? That's highway robbery! The government should make it easier to reach them without having to pay extra 😤

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. After weeks of trying, I finally got through to a real person. Worth every penny imho.

Can you explain more about how it works? Is it legit?

Sure! You go to their website, choose the department you need to call, pay the fee, and they start calling for you. When they get a real person, your phone rings and you're connected. Saved me hours of frustration.

Have you checked your mail carefully? Sometimes they send requests for additional info and if you miss it, your claim gets delayed. I almost missed mine cuz it looked like junk mail 🤦♂️

Oh man, I didn't even think of that! I'll go through my mail again. Thanks for the heads up!

This whole system is broken af. We pay into it our whole lives and when we need it, we can't even get basic info. Someone needs to fix this mess!

Hey OP, what was your disability for, if you don't mind sharing? I'm about to file and wondering how specific I need to be on the form.

I'd rather not get too specific online, but it was for a chronic health condition. From what I understand, it's best to be as detailed as possible without oversharing. Maybe someone else can chime in with more advice?

When I filed, my doctor helped me fill out the medical portion. Definitely get your healthcare provider involved if you can. They know what info SDI is looking for.

Anybody else notice that their website is always "under maintenance" when you actually need to use it? 🙄 It's like they're trying to make this as difficult as possible.

I heard a rumor that they're super backed up because of covid still. Apparently they lost a bunch of staff and haven't been able to replace them. Not sure if its true, but might explain the delays.

That tracks. My cousin works for the state (not SDI) and says everyone is understaffed rn. Still sucks for those of us waiting tho 😩

Pro tip: if you're really desperate, try reaching out to your state assembly member or senator. Their offices sometimes have connections and can help speed things up. Worked for me when I was in a similar boat last year.

That's a great idea! I never would have thought of that. Do you just call their office or is there a specific way to contact them about this kind of thing?

Most have a 'constituent services' section on their website. Fill out the form there and be sure to mention it's urgent. They usually get back to you within a few days.
