SDI Claim Continuation with New Employer - Can't Reach Anyone at EDD
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I've got an active SDI claim but I recently changed employers. Now I'm trying to continue my claim with the new employer, but I can't seem to do it online. I've been trying to reach SDI on the phone all morning, but no luck. My HR department suggested I try a calling service, but that didn't work out either. The EDD website is supposed to handle this, but apparently the SDI part doesn't communicate with the rest of the system. Anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to actually get through to a human at SDI?

Ugh, I feel your pain. The SDI system is a nightmare to navigate. Have you tried faxing your information? Sometimes old school methods work better with these outdated systems.

Faxing? Seriously? It's 2023, for crying out loud. But at this point, I'm desperate enough to try anything. Do you know what number I should fax to?

I know, right? It's ridiculous. But here's the fax number I used: 1-855-342-5515. Good luck!

Lol faxing in 2023. What's next, sending a telegram? 😂

I've been through this exact situation. It's a total pain, but here's what worked for me: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact them. 2. Try calling right when they open. I mean, set an alarm and be ready to dial the second they open. 3. If you can't get through, try emailing them at SDI_EBOTW@edd.ca.gov. Include all relevant info in the email. 4. If all else fails, contact your local state representative. They often have liaisons who can help with EDD issues. Hang in there, it's frustrating but you'll get it sorted eventually!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed response! I'll definitely try calling right when they open. Do you remember what time that is?

They open at 8:00 AM Pacific Time, Monday through Friday. Set your alarm for 7:55 and get ready to hit that redial button!

This is great advice! I'd add one more thing: if you do email them, make sure to use a clear subject line like "Urgent: Continuing SDI Claim with New Employer - Claim Number XXXXXX". It might help your email get noticed faster.

Have you tried using the AskEDD feature on their website? Sometimes you can get a response faster that way than trying to call.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this service?

I'm skeptical. Why should we have to pay to talk to a government agency? This seems wrong.

I get the skepticism, but after spending hours trying to get through, $20 seemed worth it to me. It actually worked and saved me a ton of time and frustration.

Can you give more details about how it works? Do they guarantee you'll get through?

Sure! You choose the department you need to reach, pay the fee, and they start calling. When they get a real person, your phone rings and you're connected. They don't guarantee it, but they do offer a refund if you don't get through in 48 business hours.

Totally agree. But good luck getting the government to actually fix anything. We'll probably be dealing with this mess for years to come. 🙄

Have you considered going to an EDD office in person? Sometimes face-to-face interactions can get things moving faster.

I didn't even know that was an option! Do you know if I need to make an appointment first?

Last time I checked, most offices were operating on a first-come, first-served basis. But it might be worth calling ahead to make sure. And bring ALL your paperwork!
