SDI Account Error: Can't Submit New FMLA Claim Due to Existing Driver's License Link - Help!
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble submitting a new FMLA claim for bonding. When I try to register as a claimant, I get an error saying my driver's license is already linked to an account. I do have an older account for previous claims, but I need to submit this new one. Has anyone else run into this issue? Any advice on how to get around it?

Ugh, I had the same problem last year when I tried to file for pregnancy disability! It's so frustrating that the system doesn't let you submit new claims easily. Have you tried calling the EDD directly? They might be able to help you link the new claim to your existing account.

Thanks for the suggestion! I've been trying to call them, but the lines are always busy. It's like trying to win the lottery just to talk to someone 😫

Pro tip: call right when they open at 8 AM. You might have to try a few days in a row, but that's how I finally got through!

I found a way to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this? Is it legit?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 🤦♂️

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. After weeks of trying to get through, I was desperate. It's not ideal to pay, but it saved me so much time and stress.

I used it too! Totally worth it. Got my issue resolved in one call after trying for a month on my own.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Log into your existing SDI account 2. Look for an option to 'File a New Claim' or 'Add a Claim' 3. If you can't find it, try updating your personal information first 4. If that doesn't work, you might need to call and ask them to manually add the new claim to your account 5. Be persistent! Sometimes you have to try a few different representatives before you get someone who knows how to help If all else fails, you can try submitting a paper application. It takes longer, but it might bypass the online system issues. Good luck!

This is great advice! I'd add that keeping a record of all your attempts (dates, times, who you spoke to) can be helpful if you need to escalate the issue later.

This happened to me too! Turns out my old claim was still technically active even though I wasn't receiving benefits anymore. Had to call and have them close it out before I could file a new one. It's a pain but hang in there!

Oh, that's interesting! I didn't even think about that possibility. I'll definitely ask about this when I finally get through to someone. Thanks for sharing your experience!

The EDD system is such a joke 🤡 They need to upgrade their tech from the stone age. Good luck OP, you're gonna need it lol

For real tho. It's 2023 and we're still dealing with these ancient systems. SMH 🤦♀️

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They often have liaisons who can help navigate EDD issues. It's like having a secret backdoor to the system!

I had no idea this was an option! Do you know how I would go about contacting them?

Just google your address + 'assembly member' and you should find their office. Give them a call and explain your situation. They're usually super helpful!
