PFL claim start date wrong (Aug instead of Oct) - How to fix?

Hey everyone, I messed up big time on my paid family leave claim. I accidentally put the start date as August instead of October when I filled out the online form. Has anyone else made this mistake? How do I fix it? I'm worried about my benefits being delayed or messed up because of this error. Any advice on how to handle this with the agency would be really appreciated!

Ugh, that sucks! I've been there before. Your best bet is to call them ASAP and explain the situation. They should be able to correct it for you. Just be prepared to wait on hold for a while... 🙄

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I'm dreading the hold time. Do you know if there's a specific department I should ask for?

Not sure about a specific department, but just ask to speak with someone who can help with claim corrections. Good luck!

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. You might have a shorter wait time!

I found a way to get someone on the phone without the crazy wait times. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

How long did it take for them to call you back?

It took about 2 hours for me, but I've heard it can vary depending on how busy they are.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the Paid Family Leave office ASAP 2. Explain that you made an error on your claim form 3. Provide your correct start date (October) 4. Ask them to confirm that they've updated your claim 5. Get the name of the person you spoke with and a reference number for the call 6. Follow up with a written request (email or mail) to have a paper trail Don't panic! These things happen more often than you'd think. The key is to act quickly and be persistent. Good luck!

This is solid advice. I'd add: make sure to note the date and time of your call too, just in case you need to reference it later.

Have you tried checking if you can edit the claim online? Sometimes they allow corrections within a certain timeframe.

I didn't even think of that! I'll check right now, thanks for the suggestion.

Oof, I feel your pain. I had a similar issue last year with unemployment. It took forever to get it sorted, but it did get fixed eventually. Just keep at it and document EVERYTHING.

How long did it take you to get it fixed? I'm in a similar boat now 😩

It took about 3 weeks of back and forth, but I think I just got unlucky. Hopefully it'll be quicker for you!
