How to fix wrong start date on EDD SDI claim? Accidentally put wrong month

Has anyone else messed up their start date on their disability claim? I accidentally put the wrong month when I was filling out the form. Now I'm worried it's gonna mess up my whole claim. Anyone know how to fix this? Do I have to start all over again or is there a way to just change that one thing?

Just to add to the conversation, it's worth noting that while tools like Claimyr can be a lifesaver, they aren't a guaranteed fix for everyone, and some people might find the cost prohibitive. It's always a good idea to weigh your options and see what works best for your situation.

Guys, I'm telling you, the best way to deal with EDD is to send a message through their online portal. Way faster than calling.

β€’

Really? How long did it take for them to respond to you?

0 coins

About 3 business days. Way better than being on hold for hours!

0 coins

It might be a good idea to try both methods, message and call, to cover all bases.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

0 coins

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

0 coins

Yep, 100% legit. I was skeptical too but it saved me hours of hold time.

$20 tho? That's kinda steep just to make a phone call...

I tried the Claimyr tool as well and I must say it does work effectively. However, it does make me wonder why such services need to exist in the first place. Shouldn't the EDD improve their response times?

This happened to me too! I was freaking out but it turned out to be an easy fix. Just call them and explain the situation. The rep I talked to was actually really nice about it.

Same here! I feel like if you approach them in a calm manner, they often reciprocate with helpfulness.

β€’

I've been there, done that. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the EDD office ASAP. The sooner you correct it, the better. 2. Have your claim number ready when you call. 3. Explain the situation calmly and clearly. 4. Ask them to notate your file with the correct date. 5. Request a confirmation number or email for the change. 6. Follow up in a week if you don't see the change reflected online. Don't stress too much. These things happen more often than you'd think. The key is to be proactive about fixing it.

This is great advice! I wish I had known this when I had issues with my claim last year.

Thank you so much for the detailed steps! This really helps. I'll def follow this advice.

Just wanted to add that if you're unable to get through after a few attempts, try calling during off-peak hours like early mornings or late afternoons.

Have you tried updating it online? Sometimes you can make small changes without calling.

I looked but couldn't find any option to change the date. Maybe I missed it?

β€’

Hmm, it might depend on how long ago you filed. If it's recent, you might have better luck calling.

Update: I called using that Claimyr thing someone mentioned. Got through in like 20 minutes! The lady on the phone fixed my start date no problem. Thanks for all the advice everyone!

Preach! πŸ™Œ We need to demand better from our government agencies.

0 coins

It's not just EDD, it's like this with most gov services. But yeah, it sucks.

While the system does have its flaws, it's important to remember that many of these government agencies are understaffed and face high demand. Pushing for reforms can help improve efficiency.

Ugh, I feel you. The EDD website is such a pain to navigate. I made a similar mistake last year. You don't have to start over, thankfully. You can call them and ask to update that info.

You’re gonna have to call them! Which sucks. Using the claimyr callback app is going to be the fastest way for this - I paid the fee and got a call back with a EDD agent on the call. Got it resolved in about 2 hours. Or else warm up those fingers and start dialing right at 8 am!!!

Don't panic! I made the exact same mistake on my SDI claim last year. The good news is you definitely don't have to start over. I called EDD and they were able to correct the start date over the phone - it took about 10 minutes once I actually got through to someone. Make sure you have your claim number handy when you call. The hardest part is honestly just getting through their phone system, but once you do, they can fix it pretty easily. Hang in there!

I had a similar issue with my SDI claim a few months ago! I accidentally entered the wrong disability start date and was panicking thinking I'd have to redo everything. Thankfully, you can get it corrected without starting over. I called EDD and explained the mistake - they were able to update it in their system pretty quickly once I got through to someone. The key is having your claim number ready and being clear about what needs to be changed. It might take a few tries to get through their phone lines, but don't give up! The mistake is more common than you'd think, so the reps are used to handling these corrections.

That's really reassuring to hear! I was worried I'd be stuck in some endless bureaucratic loop. It's good to know the reps are familiar with this kind of mistake. Did you have to provide any additional documentation when you called, or was it pretty straightforward once you explained the situation?

I went through this exact same situation a few months ago! I put June instead of July for my disability start date and was so stressed about it. The good news is you absolutely don't need to start over. I called EDD and they fixed it right over the phone - took maybe 5 minutes once I got connected to someone. Just have your claim number ready and explain what happened. They told me it's actually a pretty common mistake, so don't feel bad about it. The hardest part is just getting through their phone system, but once you do, it's a quick fix. You got this!

Thanks for sharing your experience! It's such a relief to hear from people who've been through the same thing. Did you call right at 8am or is there a better time to get through faster?

I made a similar mistake when I first applied for SDI - put the wrong year instead of just the wrong month! I was completely panicking thinking my whole claim would be denied. But honestly, these date errors are super fixable. The EDD reps deal with this stuff all the time. When I called, the agent was really understanding and just asked me to confirm the correct date and my claim details. The whole correction took less than 5 minutes once I was connected. The key is just being patient with their phone system - I recommend calling right when they open at 8am for the best chance of getting through quickly. Don't stress too much about it, you'll get it sorted out!

Thanks for sharing this! It's so helpful to hear from someone who made an even bigger mistake (wrong year!) and still got it fixed easily. I've been putting off calling because I was dreading the wait time, but you're right - calling right at 8am seems like the best strategy. Did you have to provide any proof of the correct date when you called, or did they just take your word for it?

Hey there! I totally understand the panic you're feeling right now - I went through the exact same thing when I filed my SDI claim earlier this year. I accidentally put March instead of May for my disability start date and was convinced I'd ruined everything. But honestly, it's way more fixable than you'd think! I ended up calling EDD and the rep was super helpful about it. She said these date mistakes happen literally every day and they can correct it right in their system. The whole fix took maybe 3-4 minutes once I explained what happened. Just make sure you have your claim number ready when you call and be clear about what the correct date should be. One tip - if you're dreading the hold time (which, let's be real, we all are), try calling right at 8am when they open. I got through in about 15 minutes that way. Some folks here have mentioned that callback service too which seems to work well if you don't mind paying the fee. Either way, don't lose sleep over this - you'll get it sorted out! πŸ’ͺ

This is such great advice, Derek! I'm actually dealing with this exact situation right now and your comment is really reassuring. I made the same mistake (wrong month) and have been stressing about it all week. It's so good to hear that the EDD reps deal with this daily and can fix it quickly. I'm definitely going to try calling at 8am tomorrow morning - fingers crossed I can get through as fast as you did! Thanks for taking the time to share your experience, it really helps to know I'm not alone in making this mistake.

I just went through this same exact situation last month! I put August instead of September for my disability start date and was absolutely panicking about it. But honestly, it's such a common mistake that the EDD reps are totally used to fixing it. When I called, I got through to someone who was really patient and understanding. She just asked me to verify my claim number and the correct date, then updated it in their system right away - took maybe 2-3 minutes total. No need to restart your claim or anything like that! My advice: call first thing in the morning (8am sharp) to avoid the crazy hold times. Have your claim number ready and just explain that you need to correct the disability start date. The rep will probably ask you to confirm the correct date and maybe verify some other claim details, but that's it. Don't stress too much about it - you're definitely not the first person to make this mistake and you won't be the last! They deal with date corrections all the time. You got this! πŸ™‚

Thank you so much for sharing this, Sofia! As someone who's brand new to dealing with EDD and disability claims, it's incredibly reassuring to hear from people who've actually been through this exact situation. I was honestly worried that making a date mistake would somehow flag my account or cause major delays, but hearing that it's such a routine fix for the reps makes me feel so much better. I'm definitely going to follow your advice about calling right at 8am - I had no idea that timing made such a difference! It's really helpful to know what to expect when I call too. Thanks for being so encouraging! 😊

I totally feel your stress about this! I made a similar mistake on my SDI claim about 6 months ago - I accidentally put February instead of March for my start date. I was convinced I'd have to start the whole process over, but thankfully that's not the case at all! Here's what worked for me: I called EDD first thing in the morning (around 8:05am) and got through in about 25 minutes. The rep was actually really nice about it and said date errors are super common. She just asked for my claim number and the correct date, then fixed it right in their system while I was on the phone. The whole correction took maybe 5 minutes once I was connected. One thing that helped me stay calm during the call was writing down exactly what I needed to say beforehand - "I need to correct the disability start date on my claim from [wrong date] to [correct date]." Having that clear explanation ready made the conversation go smoothly. Don't panic about this! It's way more fixable than it seems, and you're definitely not the first person to make this mistake. The EDD system might be frustrating in a lot of ways, but they're pretty good at handling these simple corrections. You'll get it sorted out! πŸ’ͺ

Thanks for the detailed walkthrough, Miles! I'm in the same boat right now and your tip about writing down exactly what to say beforehand is genius - I never would have thought of that but it makes total sense to be prepared. It's so reassuring to hear that the reps are understanding about these mistakes. I've been dreading making the call but knowing that it only took 5 minutes to fix once you got connected gives me hope. I'm going to try calling tomorrow morning right at 8am with my script ready. Really appreciate you sharing your experience! πŸ™

Don't worry, you're definitely not alone in making this mistake! I had a similar issue with my SDI claim where I mixed up the dates. The good news is that EDD can fix this pretty easily once you get through to them. From what I've seen in this thread and my own experience, the key things are: 1) Call as early as possible (right at 8am seems to be the sweet spot), 2) Have your claim number ready, and 3) Be clear about what needs to be corrected. Most people are saying it only takes a few minutes to fix once you're connected to a rep. If you're really dreading the hold time, it sounds like some folks have had success with that Claimyr callback service - might be worth considering if the $20 fee is manageable for you. But honestly, calling first thing in the morning seems to work pretty well too. Try not to stress too much about it - from all these responses, it's clear this is a super common mistake and the reps are used to handling these corrections all the time. You got this! πŸ™‚

I'm so glad this thread exists too! As someone who just made the same mistake with my SDI claim (put December instead of November for my start date), finding all these success stories has been such a huge relief. I was literally up all night worrying about it, but reading how routine these corrections are for EDD reps and how quick the fixes usually are has really calmed my nerves. It's amazing how what feels like such a catastrophic error to us is actually just a normal part of their day-to-day work. I'm definitely going to follow everyone's advice about calling right at 8am with everything prepared. Thanks to this whole community for being so supportive and helpful! πŸ’™

Just wanted to jump in here as someone who's also been through this exact situation! I made a date mistake on my SDI claim about 4 months ago (put July instead of June) and was absolutely terrified I'd mess up my whole claim. But after reading through all these helpful responses and making the call myself, I can confirm it's really as straightforward as everyone says. The EDD rep I spoke with was super understanding and fixed it in literally 2 minutes - she said these date corrections are probably the most common calls they get! I called right at 8am and got through in about 30 minutes, which wasn't too bad. For anyone still feeling anxious about this: you're going to be totally fine. Have your claim number ready, know exactly what date you need it changed to, and don't be afraid to ask for confirmation that the change was made. The hardest part is just working up the courage to make that first call, but once you do, you'll wonder why you were so worried about it! 😊

Thank you so much for sharing your experience, Mary! As someone who just discovered I made the exact same type of mistake on my claim, this thread has been absolutely invaluable. It's incredible how something that feels so scary and overwhelming to us is actually just routine business for the EDD reps. Your point about asking for confirmation that the change was made is really smart - I wouldn't have thought to do that but it makes total sense to get that peace of mind. I'm feeling so much more confident about calling now after reading everyone's success stories. Really appreciate you taking the time to reassure those of us who are new to this process! πŸ™
