Need EDD questions phone number - can't find direct line for claim issues
I've been searching everywhere for the right EDD questions phone number to call about my claim but keep getting different numbers. Some sites say 800-300-5616, others mention 833-978-0953. I have specific questions about my benefit year end date and whether I need to reapply. Does anyone know the actual direct number for EDD questions? I don't want to waste time calling the wrong line again.

Both numbers you mentioned go to the same call center. The 800-300-5616 is the main unemployment line and that's what you want for benefit questions. Don't waste time with other numbers.

•Thank you! I was so confused by all the different numbers floating around online.

•Yeah there's a lot of misinformation. Stick with 800-300-5616 for unemployment questions.

I called that number yesterday about my benefit year questions too. Took me 67 attempts just to get through to the hold queue, then waited 2 hours and 15 minutes. But I did eventually talk to someone who answered all my reapplication questions.

•67 attempts?! That's insane. Did you call at a specific time?

•Started at 8am sharp on Wednesday. Seems like mid-week is better than Mondays or Fridays.

•Wednesday afternoons are definitely the sweet spot. Avoid calling during their lunch break though - 12pm to 1:30pm they don't answer at all.

If you're having trouble getting through manually, I used a service called Claimyr last month. It automatically dials the EDD questions phone number for you and calls you back when an agent picks up. Saved me probably 8 hours of redialing.

•Is that legitimate? Sounds too good to be true.

•Yeah it's real. Check claimyr.com - they have good reviews. Cost me $20 but worth every penny considering I was calling for 3 days straight before that.

•I was skeptical too but tried it after manual calling failed. Got connected in 25 minutes vs the 4+ hours I was spending daily.

Pro tip for the EDD questions phone number: dial 1, wait exactly 70 seconds, then dial 1-1-***. Don't wait for all the prompts. This skips about 2 minutes of menu time per call attempt.

CosmicVoyager
•Wait, you can press the numbers before the prompts finish?

Anastasia Popov
•Absolutely. I've saved hours doing this. As soon as you hear 'for English press 1' just press it and move to the next step.

•This is gold. I've been waiting for every single prompt like an idiot.

•Same here! Wish I knew this weeks ago when I was calling 100+ times a day.

What specific EDD questions are you trying to ask? Sometimes I can help without you needing to call. I've dealt with benefit year end issues before.

•My benefit year ended last month but I still have a claim balance. Not sure if I reapply or if it automatically extends.

Luca Ferrari
•You definitely need to reapply if your benefit year ended, even with a remaining balance. They won't pay out expired claims.

•This is correct. I made this mistake and had to backdate everything after calling the EDD questions phone number.

The EDD questions phone number is notorious for dropped calls. I've gotten through to hold 6 times in the past two weeks and 4 of those calls just disconnected after 90+ minutes waiting.
0 coins
CosmicVoyager
•That's my biggest fear. Spending hours just to get disconnected.

Mateo Martinez
•It happens to about 30-50% of calls according to what I've read. The system is just overloaded.

•Exactly why I switched to using an auto-dialer. Can't handle getting dropped after 2+ hour holds anymore.

Been calling the EDD questions phone number every day this week. Monday was impossible - busy signal after busy signal. Tuesday got on hold twice but both calls dropped. Wednesday I actually got through in 45 minutes but it was around 2:30pm.

•Seems like Wednesday afternoon is the magic time based on what everyone's saying.

•Yeah, and definitely avoid Mondays completely. It's like the entire state calls on Monday morning.

•Friday afternoons are pointless too. Even if you get through, they're rushing to leave.

I work full time so can't spend entire days calling the EDD questions phone number. Finally broke down and used Claimyr after reading about it here. Got my benefit year question answered in under 30 minutes total. Sometimes paying for convenience is worth it.

CosmicVoyager
•How much did it cost?

Yuki Sato
•Think it was $19. Cheaper than taking another day off work to sit by the phone all day.

•I did the same thing. My hourly wage made it a no-brainer to pay someone else to wait on hold for me.

The EDD questions phone number menu has changed recently. It's now 1-wait-1-1-*** to get to the hold queue. Don't follow old guides that mention a '2' option - that doesn't exist anymore.

•Good to know! I was wondering why some of the online guides weren't working.

Andre Dubois
•Yeah they removed the specialist line option during the pandemic and never brought it back.

•This explains why I kept getting routed to the wrong place following outdated instructions.

Here's what worked for me calling the EDD questions phone number: Set alarm for 7:50am, coffee ready, start dialing at 7:55am before they officially open. Got through on attempt #23 last Thursday and was on hold for only 1 hour 20 minutes.

CosmicVoyager
•That's actually a great strategy. Beat the rush by calling early.

Zoe Alexopoulos
•Exactly. By 8:15am the lines are completely jammed. Those first 20 minutes are golden.

•I do the same thing but set my alarm for 7:45. Make breakfast the night before so I can focus entirely on dialing.

If anyone's still manually calling the EDD questions phone number, there's a video demo of how Claimyr works at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10. I watched it before deciding to try their service. Shows exactly how they dial and forward the call to you.

•Thanks for sharing this. I want to see how it actually works before paying for anything.

•No problem. I was hesitant too but after seeing how it operates, made perfect sense. They basically do all the tedious redialing for you.

Reality check on the EDD questions phone number: I've called 847 times over the past month. Got through 3 times. Two calls dropped during hold, one successful call that resolved my benefit year question. The math just doesn't work for manual calling anymore.

CosmicVoyager
•847 times?! That's dedication but also sounds exhausting.

•It became a second job honestly. Between the time spent calling and the stress, I should have found an alternative sooner.

•This is exactly why services like Claimyr exist. Nobody should have to call 800+ times to get basic questions answered.

For anyone calling the EDD questions phone number: avoid the lunch blackout from 12-1:30pm. The entire call center goes to lunch and nobody picks up. Found this out after wasting 3 hours calling during that window.
0 coins
CosmicVoyager
•Wait, the whole call center takes lunch at the same time? That seems inefficient.
0 coins
Giovanni Moretti
•Yep, complete dead zone. They should post this information but they don't. Save yourself the frustration and call before noon or after 1:30.

Update: Used the early morning strategy mentioned here and got through to the EDD questions phone number on attempt #31 at 8:07am today. Agent confirmed I need to reapply since my benefit year ended. Thanks everyone for the timing tips!

•Glad you got through! I'm going to try the early morning approach tomorrow.

•Good luck! Start dialing at 7:55 and don't give up. It's worth pushing through those first 30-40 attempts.

•This gives me hope. I've been calling random times and getting nowhere. Structure and timing clearly matter.
