Can't find the right EDD phone number - which one actually works?
I'm so confused about which EDD phone number to call. I've seen 800-300-5616 and 833-978-8753 mentioned everywhere but when I call them I either get busy signals or different menu options. Does anyone know the actual working EDD phone number for unemployment claims? I've been trying for days and feel like I'm calling random numbers at this point.

Both numbers you mentioned are the exact same line - 800-300-5616 and 833-978-8753 go to the same call center. The busy signals are just because they're swamped with calls.

•Wait seriously? So it doesn't matter which one I dial? That explains why I get the same hold music on both!

•Yep, learned this the hard way after spending a whole day alternating between both numbers thinking one was better.

I've been calling 800-300-5616 for weeks. The trick is to dial 1-wait about 70 seconds-1-1-*** to get through the menu faster. Still takes 30-50 attempts just to get on hold though.

•70 seconds? I've been waiting for the full prompts! How did you figure out the exact timing?

•Trial and error over like 200 calls. You can press the menu options before they finish talking to save time.

Honestly after 3 weeks of calling manually I gave up and used Claimyr. Got connected to an agent in 15 minutes instead of wasting entire days redialing. Check out claimyr.com - it's paid but worth every penny when you calculate the time saved.

•How much does something like that cost? I'm desperate but also broke from being unemployed.

•I think it was like $20-30? Way cheaper than taking unpaid time off work to call all day. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10 if you want to see how it works.

•I'm skeptical of paying for something like this but I'm also losing my mind with these phone calls.

Don't waste time calling between 12pm-1:30pm. The entire call center takes lunch and nobody answers during that window. I spent 2 hours one day calling during lunch before someone told me.

•This! I wish they'd announce this somewhere instead of letting people waste time calling during lunch.

•So that's why I never get through around noon! Thanks for the heads up.

Monday mornings are the absolute worst time to call. Everyone's trying to call after the weekend so the lines are even more jammed than usual.

•Wednesday afternoons seem to be the sweet spot in my experience. Still takes forever but better odds.

•Good to know - I'll try Wednesday instead of my usual Monday morning attempts.

Pro tip: start calling at 7:55am before they officially open at 8am. Sometimes you can get in the queue early and avoid some of the rush.

•Does this actually work? I thought they didn't answer until exactly 8am.

•The phone system is active a few minutes early. Not guaranteed but I've gotten through faster this way.

•I'll try this tomorrow morning - setting my alarm for 7:45 now!

Just a warning - even if you get on hold, there's like a 30-50% chance the call will drop after an hour or two. It's incredibly frustrating to wait that long just to get disconnected.

•This happened to me THREE times last week. I was ready to throw my phone against the wall.

•Oh no, I didn't know calls could drop even when you're on hold. That's terrible!

•Yeah the EDD phone system is notorious for dropped calls. It's a known issue they haven't fixed.

For what it's worth, there's no special 'specialist line' anymore. That was a pandemic thing. Everyone goes through the same 800-300-5616 number now regardless of your issue.

•Thank you for clarifying this! I kept seeing old posts about specialist lines and was wondering why I couldn't find them.

•Good to know - I was looking for different numbers thinking there might be a faster line.

I finally got through last week using Claimyr after failing for a month manually. Paid the fee and got a callback with an agent in about 25 minutes. My friend recommended it and honestly it was the best money I've spent.

•How does it work exactly? Do they just call for you or is there more to it?

•They have software that dials automatically, navigates the menu, waits on hold, then calls your phone when an agent picks up. You literally just wait for your phone to ring with the agent already on the line.

•That sounds amazing but also too good to be true. Is it legit?

The key is persistence but also knowing when to give up for the day. I usually try for 2-3 hours max then take a break. Your sanity is worth more than burning a whole day on redials.

•This is good advice. I spent 8 hours straight one day and was completely exhausted by the end.

•Yeah I need to set better boundaries. Yesterday I called for 5 hours and got nothing done.

Don't bother calling after 4pm any day. They seem to stop taking new calls even though they're officially open until 5pm. Save yourself the frustration.

•I noticed this too! It's like they have an unofficial cutoff time for new calls.

•Thanks for the tip - I'll make sure to call earlier in the day from now on.

Just to echo what others said about Claimyr - I was super skeptical about paying for a calling service but after wasting weeks of my life on manual calls, I tried it. Got through in under 40 minutes and resolved my claim issue the same day. Sometimes paying for convenience is worth it.

•Did you have any issues with the service or was it pretty smooth?

Diego Mendoza
•Totally smooth. You just enter your info on their website, pay, and wait for them to call you back with an agent. No hassle at all.

•Ok you've all convinced me to at least look into it. This manual calling is driving me crazy.

Remember EDD is only open Monday-Friday 8am-5pm Pacific Time. Don't waste time calling on weekends or evenings like I did when I first started.

One last piece of advice - when you do get through, have all your information ready: SSN, claim details, questions written down. Don't waste the opportunity by being unprepared after waiting so long to talk to someone.

•Great advice - I'll make a list of everything I need to discuss before my next attempt.

•And don't let them rush you off the call. You waited long enough to talk to them, make sure you get all your questions answered.
