Money Network card frozen - will EDD payments still deposit after Bank of America disabled transfers?
Freaking out right now! We just had to freeze my Money Network card after someone used it at a McDonalds across town (I was at work!). I'm due to certify this Sunday and I'm worried about what happens next. Bank of America apparently disabled transfers from the EDD cards to checking accounts recently (tried to move money last week but couldn't). If my card stays frozen when my next certification payment hits, will the money still get deposited to the card? Or will it bounce back to EDD? I'm so stressed because that's rent money and I can't afford any delays. Has anyone dealt with this? Do I need to unfreeze before certification or get a replacement card first?

Don't panic! Your money will still go onto the card even if it's frozen. The freeze just prevents transactions FROM the card, not deposits TO the card. I had this same thing happen in January - someone hit my card at a gas station in San Diego (I live in Sacramento!). Called right away to freeze it and my next payment still deposited fine while I waited for a replacement card. Just make sure to request a replacement ASAP since it can take 7-10 business days to arrive.

•Omg thank you!!! That's a huge relief. I'll call for the replacement tomorrow. Did you have any issues with the new card when it arrived? And were you able to transfer money from it to your bank account?

•This is actually incorrect. Bank of America no longer manages the EDD debit cards - the program switched to Money Network cards in July 2024. The transfer limitation some people are experiencing is temporary and related to security measures. You CAN still transfer to your bank account through the Money Network mobile app, but there might be a 3-day hold period on new accounts or after security incidents.

I work with UI claims daily and can confirm what others have said. When your Money Network card is frozen for fraud protection, incoming deposits from EDD will still post to the account normally. The freeze only blocks outgoing transactions. Regarding transfers to your bank account: Money Network DID temporarily restrict this feature for some cardholders due to increased fraud activity, but it's not disabled for everyone. Here's what you should do: 1. Request a replacement card immediately (1-866-692-9374) 2. Continue certifying as normal 3. Once you receive your new card, activate it and set up a new PIN 4. Try the bank transfer feature through the Money Network mobile app (not the website) 5. If transfers are still blocked, call customer service and verify your identity If your rent is due soon and you're worried about timing, you can also request an emergency expedited card (2-3 business days) instead of the standard 7-10 days.

•This is SO helpful. Thank you! I'll call for the expedited card option since my rent is due on the 1st. One more question - does the replacement card come with a different number? I'm worried because I have some recurring bills set up on the current card.

•That was only possible with the old Bank of America EDD cards. Since July 2024, EDD now uses Money Network cards which cannot be replaced at a bank branch. They must be ordered through customer service at 1-866-692-9374. This is one of the disadvantages of the new system.

I've been on unemployment for 8 months and dealt with THREE fraudulent charges on my Money Network card. It's absolutely infuriating how poor their security is! Each time I had to wait 7-10 business days for a replacement, which is completely unacceptable when people rely on this money for basic necessities! And yes, they HAVE disabled transfers to bank accounts for many cardholders without any clear explanation. I spent 3 HOURS trying to reach someone at Money Network about this last week. Their customer service is a joke - just endless hold music and disconnections. EDD should be ashamed for partnering with such an incompetent financial service provider!

•3 HOURS?? That's insane. I've already been trying to call them this morning and keep getting the "all representatives are busy" message. Do you know if there's a better time to call?

If you're struggling to get through to Money Network, I recently used a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to EDD when I had a similar fraud issue with my card. They basically hold your place in line and call you back when an agent is available. Saved me hours of frustration! Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

•Thanks for the tip! Does this work for Money Network calls too or just EDD directly? My issue is with the card provider not EDD itself.

•It's primarily for EDD, but in your case, you might want to talk to EDD anyway. They can note the fraud on your account and sometimes help escalate issues with Money Network. That's what worked for me - EDD transferred me directly to a Money Network specialist after verifying my claim info.

To directly answer your question: Yes, your payment will still deposit to your frozen card. The card freeze only prevents withdrawals and purchases, not deposits. Regarding the bank transfers issue - this is a temporary security measure that Money Network implemented after a spike in fraud cases. It's not affecting all cardholders, but many have reported restrictions. If you need immediate access to your funds while waiting for a replacement card, you have a few options: 1. You can add your Money Network card to a digital wallet (Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc.) and continue using it that way even while the physical card is frozen 2. You can authorize a one-time transfer by calling Money Network customer service and completing additional verification steps 3. Request a 'provisional credit' while they investigate the fraud, which may give you access to the funds that were fraudulently taken I recommend calling Money Network first thing in the morning (6:00 AM PT) when their call volume is lowest.

•Wait, I can add it to Apple Pay even while it's frozen?? That would solve my immediate problem! Thank you so much for this info. Will try calling at 6am tomorrow.

Just following up to share that I had this EXACT situation in April. Called for replacement card, money deposited fine while waiting. But heads up - any automatic payments you had set up on the old card will fail. You'll need to update those with the new card number when it arrives. The new card will have completely different numbers for security reasons.

•Thank you for the heads up! I'll make a list of all the autopayments I need to update once the new card arrives. Appreciate everyone's help with this!
