Identity verification completed but claim still pending - how long until payment?

I just completed all the steps for my unemployment claim but I'm getting anxious about when I'll actually see money. Timeline: filed initial claim, had my phone interview last Friday (Jan 13), and just yesterday uploaded my identity documents through ID.me as requested. My UI Online account is showing my claim status as 'pending' for unemployment insurance. Can't tell if this is normal or if something's wrong. For those who've been through this recently - how long does it typically take to go from 'pending' to 'paid' after completing identity verification? My rent is due in two weeks and I'm starting to stress.

usualy takes 7-10 days after ID verify. the system is slow lol

Thanks for the quick response. Did yours take that long too? I'm wondering if I should be doing anything else while I wait or just be patient.

Identity verification can be the longest part of the entire process. From my experience helping others navigate EDD claims, here's what you can expect: 1. ID.me verification typically processes within 24-48 hours on their end 2. After ID.me completes verification, EDD still needs to update their system (3-5 business days) 3. Once identity is confirmed in EDD's system, your pending payments should switch to paid within 1-2 days So all together, you're looking at about 5-7 business days from document upload to payment, assuming everything goes smoothly. If it goes beyond 10 business days, that's when you should start following up.

THIS IS NOT ALWAYS TRUE!!! My verification took 3 WEEKS to process last month and nobody told me why!!! The EDD system is COMPLETELY BROKEN and understaffed!!!

My ID verification took almost 2 weeks to process too, and my claim was stuck on pending the whole time. I was freaking out because I couldn't get through to anyone at EDD to check what was happening. The phone lines are impossible - I tried calling like 30 times a day and either got disconnected or told the queues were full. Have you tried calling them to see what's causing the delay? You might need to get through to a tier 2 specialist who can actually see what's happening with your claim.

I've tried calling a few times but kept getting the "we're experiencing higher than normal call volume" message. It's so frustrating not knowing what's happening. Should I keep trying to call or just wait it out?

After helping my brother through this exact situation last month, I'd recommend calling EDD as soon as possible. The problem is that sometimes there are other issues with your claim beyond just identity verification that might not be visible to you in UI Online. I had success using Claimyr to get through to an EDD representative - it's a service that connects you with EDD when there's an opening so you don't have to keep calling all day. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Once my brother got through to a tier 2 specialist, they found that his claim had another flag that wasn't related to ID verification. They fixed it on the spot and his payment went from pending to paid within 48 hours.

I think thats really good advice. I had a claim stuck pending for 3 weeks after ID verification and turns out it was because I had answered a certification question wrong which wasnt obvious in the online system AT ALL. They cant tell you this if you dont call tho! So frustrating!

just wait it out man. my id.me took like 9 days to clear then everything switched to paid all at once. the system is slow af but it works eventually. calling is just a waste of time, nobodys gonna give u real answers anyway.

I'm torn between waiting and trying to call. I guess I'll give it until next Friday and then start trying to contact them if nothing changes. Thanks for sharing your experience.

One important thing to know is that even after your identity is verified and your payments switch from pending to paid, you'll need to wait for your EDD Money Network debit card to arrive in the mail (if this is your first claim). That typically takes 7-10 business days after your first payment is approved. If you're really concerned about timing with your rent coming due, you might want to set up direct deposit in your UI Online account. That way, once payments are approved, they'll go straight to your bank account rather than waiting for the card.

That's super helpful! I didn't even think about the card delivery adding more time. I'll definitely set up direct deposit right now. Thanks for the tip!

When this happened to me last year I waited THREE WEEKS and nothing changed!!!! Then I finally got through to someone on the phone and they fixed it in 5 MINUTES!!! It was some stupid flag on my account that only a rep could clear!!! CALL THEM!!! Don't waste time waiting like I did!!!!!

this ^ EDD reps can fix things way faster than waiting. the online system is trash

I had a similar timeline to yours about a month ago. Filed claim, did interview, uploaded ID docs. For me it took 8 days total after ID verification for the status to change from pending to paid. But heres a tip - keep certifying for benefits on schedule even if your claim is still pending! I made the mistake of thinking I should wait until the ID verification cleared and ended up having to backdate certifications which caused another delay.

Oh that's good to know! I'll definitely make sure to keep certifying. My next certification is this Sunday - should I just go ahead and do it even though the current weeks are still pending?

Yes! Absolutely certify this Sunday even if everything is still pending. The system will process those weeks when your ID verification clears. If you skip certification, it causes all kinds of problems later.

Update us when your situation changes! It helps other people to know realistic timelines, especially with the system constantly changing. If you do need to call, I'd recommend doing it early in the morning right when they open - that's usually the best time to get through.

Will do! I'm going to wait until next Tuesday (that'll be 7 business days since verification), and if it's still pending, I'll try calling first thing Wednesday morning. Thanks everyone for all the advice - feeling a bit less stressed now knowing this is somewhat normal.

Hey Aidan, I'm in almost the exact same situation as you! Filed my claim in early January, had my phone interview last week, and just finished ID.me verification on Monday. My UI Online is also showing "pending" and I'm getting anxious about timing too. From what I've been reading in this thread and other posts, it sounds like 7-10 business days is pretty typical after ID verification. I'm planning to wait until next Friday (which would be 10 business days for me) before I start calling EDD. One thing that's helping me stay calm is remembering that once it does switch to "paid," we'll get all the back payments at once for the weeks we've been certifying. So even though it's stressful waiting, we won't lose any money as long as we keep certifying on schedule. Hang in there - sounds like you're doing everything right! Let me know when yours clears and I'll update you on mine too.

Thanks Sophia! It's really reassuring to know someone else is going through the exact same timeline. The waiting is definitely the hardest part, but you're right about getting all the back payments at once - that's actually a good way to think about it. I'll definitely update you when mine changes status. Hopefully we'll both see movement by next Friday! Good luck with yours too.

I'm actually dealing with this exact situation right now too! Just completed my ID.me verification three days ago and my claim is still showing pending. Reading through all these responses is really helpful - it sounds like the timeline varies a lot but 7-10 business days seems to be the average. One thing I learned from a friend who went through this last year is to screenshot your UI Online account regularly while everything is pending. She said it helped when she had to call EDD later because she could reference exactly when things changed status. Also, I set up direct deposit yesterday after reading Norman's comment about the debit card taking extra time. That was a great tip I hadn't thought about! Going to try to be patient for another week before I start calling, but it's definitely nerve-wracking when you're counting on that money. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - makes me feel less alone in this process!

That's a really smart idea about taking screenshots! I never would have thought of that but it makes total sense to have a record of when things change status. I'm going to start doing that right now. And yeah, setting up direct deposit was definitely the right move - I did that yesterday too after Norman mentioned it. It's actually kind of comforting to know there are others going through this exact same timeline right now. Hopefully we'll all see our statuses change to paid by next week! Thanks for the tip about documenting everything.

Just wanted to add my recent experience to help with timeline expectations. I completed ID.me verification on December 15th and my payments switched from pending to paid on December 27th - so exactly 8 business days (excluding weekends and Christmas holiday). The key thing that helped me was calling EDD on day 10 when nothing had changed. Turns out there was a secondary review flag on my account that the rep was able to clear immediately. Within 24 hours of that call, all my pending weeks switched to paid status. My advice: definitely wait the 7-10 business days that others mentioned, but don't hesitate to call if you hit that 10-day mark. Sometimes there are backend issues that only a representative can see and fix. And yes, keep certifying every two weeks even while pending - you'll get all those back payments once everything clears! The direct deposit tip from Norman is spot on too. Made a huge difference not having to wait for the debit card to arrive.

This is super helpful Abigail! Your timeline is really reassuring - 8 business days seems pretty reasonable. I'm on day 4 since my ID verification so I'll definitely wait until at least day 10 before calling like you suggest. It's good to know that sometimes there are backend flags that only reps can see and clear. I've been certifying every two weeks like everyone recommended and have direct deposit set up, so hopefully when it does clear everything will process quickly. Thanks for sharing your exact timeline - it really helps to have concrete examples of how long this actually takes!

I'm going through this exact same process right now and honestly the waiting is the worst part! I completed my ID.me verification on Wednesday (so 3 business days ago) and my claim is still showing pending. Reading through everyone's experiences here is actually really comforting though - sounds like 7-10 business days is pretty standard. What's been helping me manage the anxiety is making a little checklist of all the things people mentioned: ✓ completed ID verification, ✓ set up direct deposit, ✓ continuing to certify every two weeks, ✓ taking screenshots of my account status. Having that visual reminder that I'm doing everything right helps a lot. I'm planning to wait until next Thursday (that'll be day 10 for me) and if nothing changes by then, I'll try calling first thing Friday morning. The stories about backend flags that only reps can see are making me think it's worth the effort to get through to someone if it goes past the 10-day mark. Thanks to everyone who shared their timelines - it really helps to know what to expect! I'll update this thread when my status changes too.

That checklist approach is brilliant! I'm actually going to steal that idea - it really does help to have a visual reminder that you're doing everything correctly while you wait. The uncertainty is definitely the hardest part of this whole process. I'm on day 5 since my ID verification and seeing everyone's different timelines here has been so reassuring. It sounds like you have a solid plan waiting until day 10 before calling. I think I'm going to do something similar - wait until day 10 and then try the early morning calling strategy that Destiny mentioned. Thanks for sharing your approach and definitely keep us updated when your status changes!
