Identity verification completed but claim still pending - how long until payment?

I just completed all the steps for my unemployment claim but I'm getting anxious about when I'll actually see money. Timeline: filed initial claim, had my phone interview last Friday (Jan 13), and just yesterday uploaded my identity documents through ID.me as requested. My UI Online account is showing my claim status as 'pending' for unemployment insurance. Can't tell if this is normal or if something's wrong. For those who've been through this recently - how long does it typically take to go from 'pending' to 'paid' after completing identity verification? My rent is due in two weeks and I'm starting to stress.

usualy takes 7-10 days after ID verify. the system is slow lol

Thanks for the quick response. Did yours take that long too? I'm wondering if I should be doing anything else while I wait or just be patient.

Identity verification can be the longest part of the entire process. From my experience helping others navigate EDD claims, here's what you can expect: 1. ID.me verification typically processes within 24-48 hours on their end 2. After ID.me completes verification, EDD still needs to update their system (3-5 business days) 3. Once identity is confirmed in EDD's system, your pending payments should switch to paid within 1-2 days So all together, you're looking at about 5-7 business days from document upload to payment, assuming everything goes smoothly. If it goes beyond 10 business days, that's when you should start following up.

THIS IS NOT ALWAYS TRUE!!! My verification took 3 WEEKS to process last month and nobody told me why!!! The EDD system is COMPLETELY BROKEN and understaffed!!!

My ID verification took almost 2 weeks to process too, and my claim was stuck on pending the whole time. I was freaking out because I couldn't get through to anyone at EDD to check what was happening. The phone lines are impossible - I tried calling like 30 times a day and either got disconnected or told the queues were full. Have you tried calling them to see what's causing the delay? You might need to get through to a tier 2 specialist who can actually see what's happening with your claim.

I've tried calling a few times but kept getting the "we're experiencing higher than normal call volume" message. It's so frustrating not knowing what's happening. Should I keep trying to call or just wait it out?

After helping my brother through this exact situation last month, I'd recommend calling EDD as soon as possible. The problem is that sometimes there are other issues with your claim beyond just identity verification that might not be visible to you in UI Online. I had success using Claimyr to get through to an EDD representative - it's a service that connects you with EDD when there's an opening so you don't have to keep calling all day. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Once my brother got through to a tier 2 specialist, they found that his claim had another flag that wasn't related to ID verification. They fixed it on the spot and his payment went from pending to paid within 48 hours.

I think thats really good advice. I had a claim stuck pending for 3 weeks after ID verification and turns out it was because I had answered a certification question wrong which wasnt obvious in the online system AT ALL. They cant tell you this if you dont call tho! So frustrating!

just wait it out man. my id.me took like 9 days to clear then everything switched to paid all at once. the system is slow af but it works eventually. calling is just a waste of time, nobodys gonna give u real answers anyway.

I'm torn between waiting and trying to call. I guess I'll give it until next Friday and then start trying to contact them if nothing changes. Thanks for sharing your experience.

One important thing to know is that even after your identity is verified and your payments switch from pending to paid, you'll need to wait for your EDD Money Network debit card to arrive in the mail (if this is your first claim). That typically takes 7-10 business days after your first payment is approved. If you're really concerned about timing with your rent coming due, you might want to set up direct deposit in your UI Online account. That way, once payments are approved, they'll go straight to your bank account rather than waiting for the card.

That's super helpful! I didn't even think about the card delivery adding more time. I'll definitely set up direct deposit right now. Thanks for the tip!

When this happened to me last year I waited THREE WEEKS and nothing changed!!!! Then I finally got through to someone on the phone and they fixed it in 5 MINUTES!!! It was some stupid flag on my account that only a rep could clear!!! CALL THEM!!! Don't waste time waiting like I did!!!!!

this ^ EDD reps can fix things way faster than waiting. the online system is trash

I had a similar timeline to yours about a month ago. Filed claim, did interview, uploaded ID docs. For me it took 8 days total after ID verification for the status to change from pending to paid. But heres a tip - keep certifying for benefits on schedule even if your claim is still pending! I made the mistake of thinking I should wait until the ID verification cleared and ended up having to backdate certifications which caused another delay.

Oh that's good to know! I'll definitely make sure to keep certifying. My next certification is this Sunday - should I just go ahead and do it even though the current weeks are still pending?

Yes! Absolutely certify this Sunday even if everything is still pending. The system will process those weeks when your ID verification clears. If you skip certification, it causes all kinds of problems later.

Update us when your situation changes! It helps other people to know realistic timelines, especially with the system constantly changing. If you do need to call, I'd recommend doing it early in the morning right when they open - that's usually the best time to get through.

Will do! I'm going to wait until next Tuesday (that'll be 7 business days since verification), and if it's still pending, I'll try calling first thing Wednesday morning. Thanks everyone for all the advice - feeling a bit less stressed now knowing this is somewhat normal.
