EDD weekly certification with different phone number - Will UI Online recognize the change?

My son just lost his phone service bc he couldn't pay the bill on time. He normally does his EDD certification through UI Online mobile app with 2-step verification sent to his phone. Will EDD system recognize him if he tries to certify from my phone instead? He's worried about messing up his claim if he uses a different number. Can he just log in on my phone or does he need to update contact info first? His payment is scheduled for this Sunday and he CANNOT miss it... rent is due. Has anyone delt with this situation??

He can absolutely log in from any device, including your phone! The EDD UI Online system doesn't track what device you're using to certify. The important thing is that he knows his username/password and can get through the ID verification. If he uses two-factor authentication, he might need to update his contact phone number in his EDD profile first so the verification code gets sent to your phone instead.

Thx for answering! So he should go to the Contact Information section and update his phone # to mine before trying to log in? Will that be instant or take time to process? He's super stressed about this whole thing.

he doesnt need 2 change anything if hes just using ur phone. i use my gfs phone sometimes when mines dead. as long as he can get into his account it dont matter what phone hes using. EDD cant tell the difference between devices

This isn't completely accurate. If he has two-factor authentication enabled (which most accounts do now), he'll need access to the phone number on file to receive the verification code. The device doesn't matter, but the phone number receiving texts does. He should update his contact info first before trying to certify.

I had this EXACT same problem last year!!! My phone broke right before certification weekend and I freaked out. The key thing is whether he has 2-factor authentication set up. If he does, he'll need to update his phone number in his contact information BEFORE trying to log in. The change takes effect immediately. If he doesn't have 2-factor set up, then he can just borrow any phone and log in directly.

He does have the 2-factor thing enabled. So he needs to somehow login first to change the number...but needs the verification code to login...seems like a catch 22? How did you solve it?

Your son has several options here: 1. He can call EDD directly to update his phone number (though good luck getting through) 2. He can use the "Contact EDD" option on the website from any computer to request a phone number update 3. If he has email verification as a backup, he might be able to receive codes that way instead Don't stress too much, people change phones all the time and EDD has processes for this. The worst case scenario is he might need to verify his identity again, but he won't lose his benefits just because he's using a different phone.

I think we'll try the email option first. He says he might have that set up as backup. If that doesn't work, calling EDD seems impossible these days!

If your son is having trouble getting through to EDD to update his phone number, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. It helped me get through to an actual EDD rep in about 20 minutes when I had a similar issue with account access. Their service basically calls EDD for you and puts you in the queue without having to deal with the busy signals and disconnects. You can see how it works in their demo: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km or just visit claimyr.com Once he gets through to a rep, they can update his phone number right away so he can get the verification texts on your phone.

I used that service too when I was desperate! It actually works. Paid for itself considering I would have missed a certification period otherwise.

DID ANYONE EVEN READ THE ORIGINAL POST??? The guy said his SON can't pay his bill. That means his son probably doesn't have a JOB right now. How is he supposed to pay for some fancy service to call EDD? The system is so broken that people have to PAY MONEY just to access their UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS. This makes me so angry!!!

You're right that the system can be frustrating. I was just offering one option, but there are free alternatives too. He could also try calling right when they open at 8:00 AM or use the Contact EDD form online as others suggested.

my cousin had this same problem he just went to the library and used the computer there to login and update his phone number then he could use any phone after that

That's a smart idea I didn't think of! The library has computers he could use. Thanks!

Just checking back - was your son able to update his phone number and complete his certification? If he's having trouble accessing his account to make the update, he should try these steps: 1. Use a computer at a library or friend's house 2. Select "Forgot Password" if needed 3. Verify identity using his email if he has that as a backup 4. Update phone number in Contact Information 5. Log out and then log back in using the updated phone number Remember that while phone devices can change freely, the actual contact phone number must be updated if he has two-factor authentication enabled and needs to receive verification codes.

Update: We got it working! He went to the library like someone suggested and was able to login using email verification instead of the phone. He updated his number to mine, then certified from my phone later. His payment is pending now. Thanks everyone for the help!!!
