EDD scheduled a second eligibility interview after approval - Do I need to attend?

I'm so confused about my EDD claim status right now. I had my initial eligibility interview on March 15th (it was originally set for March 17th but I rescheduled it earlier). My claim was approved and paid on March 18th after my former employer didn't respond by the deadline. Now I've received a notice dated March 16th saying I have ANOTHER eligibility interview scheduled for March 28th with the exact same questions. The weird thing is this second interview only shows up on my claim status page where it says "Pending Eligibility - Phone Interview Scheduled" but it's NOT showing on my UI Online homepage. The status page also mentions "If your appointment has been canceled, it will no longer display on your UI Online homepage." So does this mean it's canceled or not? I can't reschedule because the appointment isn't showing on my homepage, and I absolutely cannot make it on March 28th due to a medical appointment. Has anyone dealt with this duplicate interview situation before? What should I do?

This is a common glitch in their system! The same thing happened to me in January. When your claim gets approved after the first interview, sometimes their system automatically generates a second interview notice but it's actually already been cancelled in their system. That's why it's not showing on your UI homepage. Since you were already approved and paid, you should be fine. The homepage is the most up-to-date reflection of your actual status.

Thank you so much for responding! That's reassuring to hear. I was worried I'd get disqualified for missing the second interview. So you didn't attend your second one and everything was fine with your claim?

call them!!!! u need 2 make sure ur not missing something important. my friend ignored a letter like this and got her benefits cancelled for 6 weeks!!! dont trust the website, EDD systems r terrible

While calling is good advice, this situation is actually a known system issue. When approval happens between when interview notices are generated and when they're mailed, you can get a duplicate notice. The UI Online homepage is considered the authoritative source - if the interview isn't listed there, it's typically been cancelled.

UPDATE: I managed to get through to EDD this morning after trying for hours. The rep confirmed it was just a duplicate interview that was generated in their system before my approval went through. She said to disregard the March 28th interview completely as it's already been cancelled on their end since I was approved on March 18th. Such a relief! My benefits will continue without interruption.

How did you manage to get through to them? I've been trying for days and keep getting the "maximum number of callers" message or disconnected after waiting for an hour! I have a similar issue with a duplicate certification showing up.

They did this to me TWICE on my claim!!!! The EDD is soooo broken I swear. First interview went fine, then got another letter, called and they said ignore it, THEN GOT A THIRD ONE a week later!!!! The whole system is designed to confuse people so they give up on their benefits. So sick of it.

While I understand your frustration, it's not actually designed to confuse people. These duplicate interviews happen because of timing issues between when their automated system generates notices and when claims are manually reviewed and approved. The left hand doesn't always know what the right hand is doing, especially with the volume of claims they process. Always check your UI Online homepage for the most current status - if an interview isn't listed there, it's been cancelled.

did u end up getting paid for all ur weeks? or did they hold some back cuz of the confusion?

Yes, all my weeks were paid normally! Once the first interview was approved and the payment went through on March 18th, everything has been processing fine. The duplicate interview notice didn't affect my payments at all.

I'm going through something similar but with my re-certification interview. It's showing up in two places but with different dates! Anyone know if I need to attend both? So confused about which one is real.

Only attend the one showing on your UI Online homepage (not just the claim status page). If you're really concerned, call EDD to confirm - but the homepage is their most current system of record. The claim status page sometimes shows outdated information.

For anyone dealing with this issue, here's what's happening: When you have an eligibility interview scheduled and then get approved before that interview (or a rescheduled one), the EDD system sometimes fails to cancel all related notices. This creates confusion with duplicate interviews appearing in different parts of your account. The definitive source is your UI Online homepage - if an interview doesn't appear there, it has been cancelled in their system. This is a known issue that's been happening more frequently since they updated their claim processing system in late 2024. The letters are auto-generated before the system recognizes that your claim was already resolved. Always trust what's on your UI Online homepage over mailed notices or the claim status page.

Thank you for this detailed explanation! It's exactly what happened in my case. I wish they would fix this issue or at least include some kind of explanation in the notices they send out. Would have saved me a lot of anxiety!

My wife was in this exact situation last month!! She ignored the second interview date since her benefits were already coming in and nothing bad happened. If you're really worried though maybe try calling them early in the day like right when they open? thats when its easiest to get thru

Good luck calling them! I tried for 2 weeks straight and couldnt get thru. Their phone system is a JOKE. I ended up having to go to the actual office and wait 4 hours just to talk to someone about my duplicate interview. What a waste of time!!!!!
