EDD eligibility questionnaire completed but phone interview still scheduled - will it auto-cancel?

I'm confused about this EDD eligibility interview process. I received an email last Tuesday telling me to complete an online eligibility questionnaire, which I did immediately and answered everything honestly. But here's what's weird - I already had a phone eligibility interview scheduled for the same day (before I even saw the online questionnaire notification).\n\nAfter completing the online questionnaire, I noticed there was a section saying I could opt out of the phone interview. Since my account was still showing the scheduled phone interview, I called EDD to ask about it. The rep told me to "just give the online questionnaire time to process" and that "the phone interview should cancel itself and disappear from my account page."\n\nThat sounds... not reliable? In my 6 months of dealing with EDD, nothing ever just "works itself out" in their system. It's been 5 days now and the phone interview is STILL showing as scheduled in my account. I'm worried if I don't show up for the interview, they'll mark me as a no-show and my benefits will be affected.\n\nHas anyone dealt with this dual eligibility verification process? Did your phone interview actually auto-cancel after completing the online questionnaire? Or should I just plan to be available for the interview regardless of what the rep said?

I had almost the exact same situation last month. The rep told me the same thing about the interview \

Thanks for sharing this! I'll definitely take screenshots right now as proof. Did you have to go through the same questions again during your phone interview, or was it just a quick verification?

The EDD rep was giving you misinformation. Their systems DON'T automatically sync like that. The online questionnaire and phone interview systems are completely separate, and opting out via the online form requires manual processing by a staff member.\n\nI work in HR and deal with this stuff constantly. NEVER assume anything with EDD will \

this is exactly right!! i missed my interview bc a rep told me the same thing and my payments got stopped for 2 months!! dont trust what they say always show up for interviews no matter what!!!!

Have you checked your UI Online inbox for any messages? Sometimes they send a cancellation notice there but don't update the main dashboard. Also, what type of eligibility issue triggered this interview? That might affect whether the online questionnaire is sufficient.

I've checked my inbox multiple times and there's nothing about cancellation. The eligibility issue is related to my availability for work - I had to reduce my available hours temporarily due to a family situation, and I reported that on my certification.

If you're having trouble getting through to a representative about this, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. I was in a similar position with conflicting information about my eligibility interview and couldn't get through to EDD for days. Claimyr connected me to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes instead of spending hours redialing. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km that shows how it works. It was honestly worth it to get a clear answer directly from EDD rather than guessing what might happen with my benefits.

I actually just dealt with this exact scenario in February! The online questionnaire and phone interview covered the SAME information, but EDD requires both in some cases depending on the type of eligibility issue flagged on your account. For me, it was because I reported school attendance.\n\nHere's what happened: I did both (online questionnaire and phone interview). During the phone interview, the EDD interviewer had access to my online questionnaire responses and basically just verified a few details. The whole call took like 5 minutes instead of the scheduled 30.\n\nDespite what the rep told you, the interview probably won't auto-cancel. Just be available for it. Better to have a quick redundant conversation than miss it and have your payments delayed for weeks!

This is super helpful, thank you! Mine is for availability for work (had to reduce hours temporarily). Sounds like I should definitely plan to be available for the call. Did they call exactly at the scheduled time or was there some flexibility?

This is unfortunately very common. EDD representatives often give conflicting information because their own training and systems are inconsistent. Always document who you spoke with (date, time, ID number if they provide one) and what they told you.

After reading through all these responses, it sounds like you should: \n\n1. Take screenshots of your completed questionnaire\n2. Be available for the phone interview at the scheduled time\n3. Have your documentation ready regarding your work availability issue\n4. Be prepared to explain that you already completed the online questionnaire if they ask\n\nIt seems like the consistent experience is that these interviews don't auto-cancel as the rep suggested. Good luck!

Thanks for summarizing! This is exactly what I'll do. I appreciate everyone's help - I'm glad I asked here instead of just trusting what the rep told me. Will update after my interview to let everyone know what happened.

I went through this exact same situation about 3 weeks ago! The rep told me the same thing about the system automatically canceling the phone interview after I completed the online questionnaire. Spoiler alert: it didn't cancel. I ended up doing both - the online questionnaire AND the phone interview. The interviewer actually referenced my online responses during the call and said something like "I see you already answered these questions online, but I need to verify a few details with you directly." The whole call was maybe 10 minutes instead of the full scheduled time. My advice: definitely plan to be available for that phone interview. I've learned the hard way that EDD's left hand doesn't talk to their right hand, and their systems don't communicate with each other the way they should. Better safe than sorry with your benefits on the line!

I'm dealing with this exact situation right now too! Got the online questionnaire email on Wednesday, completed it immediately, but my phone interview is still scheduled for tomorrow. After reading all these responses, I'm definitely going to be available for the call. One thing I noticed though - when I completed the online questionnaire, there was a confirmation page that said something like "your responses have been recorded" but it didn't give me any clear indication about whether the phone interview would be cancelled or not. The wording was pretty vague. Has anyone here actually had their phone interview successfully cancelled after doing the online questionnaire? Or does it seem like EDD just requires both regardless of what their reps say on the phone?

From everything I've read in this thread, it seems like EDD just requires both regardless of what their reps say. I haven't seen a single person here who actually had their phone interview cancelled after completing the online questionnaire. The system seems designed to have you do both as a redundancy, even though the reps don't seem to understand this themselves. I'm in a similar boat - got my online questionnaire done but still have the phone interview showing. After reading all these experiences, I'm treating them as two separate requirements that both need to be completed. The good news is that several people mentioned the phone interview was much shorter when they'd already done the online part, so at least it won't be a huge time commitment. Good luck with your interview tomorrow! Sounds like you're taking the right approach by being available for it.

I can confirm that EDD rarely cancels phone interviews even after completing the online questionnaire. I've been through this process twice in the past year - once for a work availability issue and once for schooling verification. Both times I did the online questionnaire first and both times the phone interview still happened as scheduled. The online questionnaire seems to be more of a preliminary screening, while the phone interview is their way of actually verifying the information with a live person. During my calls, the interviewers had my online responses pulled up and would say things like "I see here you indicated X, can you tell me more about that situation?" My suggestion would be to treat them as completely separate requirements. Don't expect any automation or system integration to work in your favor with EDD - their technology is notoriously unreliable. Be ready for that call tomorrow and have all your documentation handy. The silver lining is that when you've already done the online part, the phone interview really is much quicker since they're just verifying rather than collecting information from scratch.

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! Just completed my online eligibility questionnaire yesterday but still have a phone interview scheduled for next week. After reading everyone's experiences here, it's clear that EDD reps are giving out incorrect information about the system automatically canceling interviews. What's frustrating is how many people have been told the same story about the systems "syncing" or interviews "auto-canceling" when that clearly doesn't happen. It seems like EDD requires both the online questionnaire AND the phone interview as separate verification steps, regardless of what their customer service reps tell you. I'm definitely going to be available for my scheduled interview after reading all these responses. Better to spend 10-15 minutes on a redundant call than risk having benefits suspended for weeks. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences - this thread has been way more helpful than anything I could get from calling EDD directly!

This is so helpful to read! I'm actually in the same boat - completed my online questionnaire three days ago but my phone interview is still showing as scheduled for Friday. I was really hoping it would auto-cancel like the rep told me, but after reading everyone's experiences here, it's obvious that's not how their system works. What really gets me is how consistently the reps are giving out this same wrong information about interviews canceling automatically. It makes you wonder if they're just guessing or if there's some internal miscommunication about how these processes actually work. Either way, it's clear we can't rely on what they tell us over the phone. I'm going to follow everyone's advice and be ready for my interview on Friday. At least now I know to expect it to be shorter since I've already done the online part. Thanks for starting this thread - it's saved me from potentially missing my interview and dealing with the headache that would cause!

I just went through this same exact situation two weeks ago! Got the online questionnaire email, completed it right away, but my phone interview stayed scheduled. Called EDD and got the same "it should auto-cancel" response from the rep. Well, it didn't auto-cancel. I ended up doing both the online questionnaire AND the phone interview. The interviewer actually started the call by saying "I see you completed the online eligibility questionnaire - this call will just be to verify some of those details." It ended up being about 8 minutes instead of the full 30 minutes they had scheduled. My situation was also related to work availability (I had a temporary medical issue that limited my job search), and they basically just confirmed what I had already submitted online. The interviewer was actually pretty understanding about the confusion with the conflicting information from the rep. Definitely don't skip the phone interview based on what the rep told you. EDD's systems are notorious for not communicating with each other, and missing that call could delay your benefits for weeks. Have your documentation ready and treat it as a separate requirement from the online questionnaire. Good luck!

This is really reassuring to hear from someone who just went through it! I'm dealing with a similar work availability situation and was getting stressed about potentially having to explain everything twice. Knowing that the interviewer actually acknowledged you'd already done the online part and kept it brief makes me feel much better about my upcoming call. It's frustrating how many of us have gotten the same incorrect information from different EDD reps about the auto-canceling. At this point it seems like they either don't understand their own system or they're just telling people what they think we want to hear. Either way, I'm glad I found this thread before potentially making the mistake of skipping my interview. Thanks for sharing the details about how your call went - it's helpful to know what to expect!

I went through this exact scenario about a month ago and can confirm what others are saying - the phone interview will NOT auto-cancel even after completing the online questionnaire. The EDD rep gave me the same line about "letting it process" and the interview "disappearing from my account." What actually happened: I did both the online questionnaire and showed up for the phone interview. The interviewer had my online responses pulled up and said "I can see your answers here, but I need to verbally confirm a few key points with you." The whole call took maybe 12 minutes instead of the full scheduled time. My advice based on this experience: Treat them as two separate requirements. Screenshot everything from your online questionnaire completion (including the confirmation page) and be available for your phone interview. Don't trust EDD's systems to communicate with each other - they rarely do. The good news is that having completed the online part first definitely speeds up the phone interview since they're just verifying information rather than collecting it from scratch. Better to spend 15 minutes on a redundant call than risk benefit delays for weeks!

Thank you so much for sharing your recent experience! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I'm scheduled for my phone interview tomorrow and was really hoping the online questionnaire would have cancelled it by now, but clearly that's not how their system works. It's actually kind of ridiculous how many people in this thread got told the exact same thing by different EDD reps about the interview auto-canceling. At this point it seems like either their training is completely wrong or they're just making stuff up to get people off the phone faster. I'm definitely going to take screenshots of my completed questionnaire right now and be ready for the call tomorrow. It's reassuring to know that it should be much shorter since I've already provided all the information online. Thanks for confirming what everyone else has been saying - this thread has been a lifesaver!

I'm dealing with this EXACT same situation right now! Completed my online eligibility questionnaire on Monday, but my phone interview is still scheduled for this Thursday. Called EDD and got the same runaround about it "auto-canceling" - clearly that's not happening based on everyone's experiences here. What's really frustrating is how consistent this misinformation seems to be across different EDD reps. It makes you wonder if they're all reading from the same incorrect script or if they genuinely don't understand how their own system works. After reading through all these responses, I'm definitely treating the online questionnaire and phone interview as two completely separate requirements. Going to take screenshots of my completion confirmation and be ready for the call on Thursday. It sounds like having done the online part first should at least make the phone interview much shorter. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences - this thread has been way more informative than anything I could get from EDD directly! Will update after my interview to add another data point for future people dealing with this confusion.

I'm so glad I found this thread too! I'm literally in the same exact boat - finished my online questionnaire earlier this week but have a phone interview coming up tomorrow. After reading everyone's experiences, it's crystal clear that EDD reps are consistently giving out wrong information about these interviews auto-canceling. What really strikes me is how this seems to be such a widespread issue with their customer service training. So many of us have been told the exact same incorrect information by different reps. It's like they're all working from outdated or wrong procedures. I'm definitely going to follow everyone's advice here - taking screenshots now and planning to be available for my call tomorrow. It's actually reassuring to know that the phone interview should be much quicker since I've already provided all the information online. Way better to spend 10-15 minutes on a "redundant" call than risk having benefits suspended for weeks because I missed it based on bad advice from a rep. Thanks for sharing your situation - it's helpful to know I'm not the only one dealing with this right now! Definitely planning to update this thread after my interview too.
