EDD interview rep promised to make weeks available to certify - how long should I wait?

I had my phone interview with EDD today and I'm kinda confused about what happens next. The rep said my interview was actually scheduled by mistake since I'd already served my holding period for the week ending 9/30. He told me he would make weeks ending 10/07 and 10/14 available for me to certify right away. The problem is it's been 5 hours since our call and I'm still not seeing these weeks available to certify in UI Online. I completely forgot to ask him how long it typically takes for these weeks to show up! I'm getting anxious because I really need these payments to come through. Is this normal? Should I call again or just wait longer? Has anyone else had this experience after an eligibility interview?

chill man it takes time for them to update the system. i had a similar thing happen and it took until the next day for my weeks to appear. just keep checking your portal

Thanks for responding. I guess I'm just anxious because my rent is due soon. I'll try to be patient and keep checking tomorrow.

In my experience, it can take 24-48 hours for new certifiable weeks to appear in the system after an EDD representative makes changes to your account. The UI Online system isn't instant - there are processing times involved, and sometimes system updates happen overnight. I would recommend waiting at least until tomorrow afternoon before becoming concerned. If you don't see the weeks available to certify by then, you might want to contact EDD again. But from what you've described, it sounds like a normal processing delay rather than a problem with your claim.

Thank you for the detailed response! That makes me feel better. I'll wait until tomorrow afternoon before panicking.

The EDD system is SO FRUSTRATING!!! I had almost the exact same situation happen last month. The rep promised to make weeks available for me to certify and it took THREE FULL DAYS to show up in my portal! Meanwhile I was freaking out thinking they forgot or something went wrong. The whole time they expect us to just sit around and wait while our bills pile up. RIDICULOUS!!

Same!! EDD always telling us one thing but system doing another. Makes me crazy.

When they told me they were making weeks available after my eligibility interview last month it took until the next morning. But my cousin had to wait like 3 days for hers to show up. EDD is weird like that, everything takes different times for different people lol.

What you're experiencing is completely normal. When an EDD representative makes changes to your claim like making weeks available for certification, there's always a processing delay. The representative submits the request, but it has to go through their system before it actually appears in your UI Online portal. Here's what typically happens: 1. The rep submits the request to make weeks available 2. The request goes into their processing queue 3. The system processes these requests (often in batches) 4. Your UI Online portal updates with the new certifiable weeks This process usually takes 24-48 hours, but can sometimes be faster or slower depending on system load. The best approach is to check your portal once or twice a day rather than constantly refreshing it. If you don't see the weeks available by the third business day after your call, then it would be appropriate to contact them again.

Thank you for breaking down the process! That helps me understand what's happening behind the scenes. I'll wait a couple of days before worrying.

I went through this exact situation in February! Had my phone interview, they said weeks would be available to certify, and then...nothing happened. I waited for days refreshing my portal constantly. Finally got so frustrated I needed to speak to someone but couldn't get through on the regular line. I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. The rep confirmed the weeks were actually released but there was some kind of glitch in my account preventing them from showing up. They fixed it while I was on the phone and I was able to certify immediately. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

They're different things. The holding period (sometimes called a waiting period) is the first week of any unemployment claim where you're eligible but don't receive payment. It's basically a deductible week. An eligibility interview happens when there's a question about your eligibility that needs to be resolved - like if you reported refusing work, had excessive earnings, or there was a question about your availability for work. From what the original poster described, they already served their waiting week (ending 9/30), but EDD mistakenly scheduled an eligibility interview anyway. During that interview, the rep realized the interview wasn't necessary and also said they'd make subsequent weeks available for certification.

Any update? Did your weeks become available to certify yet?

Yes! They finally showed up this morning - took about 28 hours. Already certified and now just waiting for payment to process. Thanks everyone for helping me stay calm during the wait!
