So frustrated with this new Money Network card! Been on unemployment since January 2025 and I'm dealing with two major issues: 1) The card PIN works perfectly at ATMs when I withdraw cash, but keeps getting declined when I try to use it at stores for direct purchases. Has anyone else experienced this weird inconsistency? The Money Network app is completely useless for troubleshooting. 2) Looking at my claim history, next week appears to be my final payment?? I've only been on unemployment for about 4 months and I thought benefits lasted for a year. Did I exhaust my benefit amount already? I'm still struggling to find work in my field (marketing). Will my claim automatically extend or do I need to file something new? Anyone have experience with claims ending sooner than expected? This is stressing me out because my job search is taking longer than I anticipated.
I'm working in the TV industry and dealing with a frustrating EDD certification issue. I had 7 weeks of production work from early December through January, and now that the show has wrapped, I need to certify for unemployment again. The problem is that UI Online is forcing me to certify for ALL the weeks going back to early December one by one, making me manually report income and essentially disqualify myself for each of those 7 working weeks before I can get to the current weeks where I actually need benefits. Is there any way to skip ahead to just certify for the recent weeks? This is so time-consuming having to go through each week I worked, enter all the employer info and earnings, just to say "yes I worked" and get $0 for those weeks. I've spent over an hour doing this and I'm only halfway through the backlog. There has to be a better way to handle intermittent work periods without this tedious process every time a gig ends, right?
Quick question - are you reporting your TV work correctly? Make sure you're listing the production company as employer, not the network or studio. I made that mistake once and had to go back and fix everything which was a nightmare. Also be super careful with the dates - they need to match your pay stubs exactly or you could get flagged for an eligibility interview.
Once you finish catching up on all those certifications, I recommend continuing to certify every two weeks even during periods when you're working. You'll still report your earnings and get $0 for those weeks, but it keeps your claim active and prevents this backlog situation from happening again when your next job ends. Many entertainment industry workers do this to avoid the exact situation you're in now.
That's brilliant advice - I had no idea you could do that! So even during future jobs, just keep certifying and reporting income? That would save so much hassle between gigs. Will definitely start doing this from now on.
Exactly. Just keep certifying every two weeks, report your earnings truthfully, and you'll receive $0 during working periods but maintain an active claim. Then when work ends, you'll already be in the system's regular certification cycle and benefits can resume immediately without the backlog catch-up. It's a common practice for those of us with intermittent work schedules.
I'm at my wits' end with EDD right now! They marked my UI claim as disqualified about 3 weeks ago, but they're STILL withdrawing money from my account every Monday like clockwork. I received a notification letter stating my claim was disqualified due to insufficient work history (which isn't true - I worked at the same company for 2 years before being laid off), but the automatic withdrawals of $87 keep happening anyway. I've called the main EDD number probably 30+ times over the past two weeks and either get disconnected or told the queue is full. The UI Online website is completely useless - I can see my claim status says 'disqualified' but there's no option to dispute the withdrawals or talk to anyone! Has anyone dealt with this weird dual status situation? Is there an EDD specialist or advocate who could help me untangle this mess? I'm literally losing sleep over this.
I had my phone interview with EDD today and I'm kinda confused about what happens next. The rep said my interview was actually scheduled by mistake since I'd already served my holding period for the week ending 9/30. He told me he would make weeks ending 10/07 and 10/14 available for me to certify right away. The problem is it's been 5 hours since our call and I'm still not seeing these weeks available to certify in UI Online. I completely forgot to ask him how long it typically takes for these weeks to show up! I'm getting anxious because I really need these payments to come through. Is this normal? Should I call again or just wait longer? Has anyone else had this experience after an eligibility interview?
wait i'm confused... did u have a eligibility interview or a holding period?? aren't those diffrent things?? my claim has a holding week but nobody called me for any interview??
They're different things. The holding period (sometimes called a waiting period) is the first week of any unemployment claim where you're eligible but don't receive payment. It's basically a deductible week. An eligibility interview happens when there's a question about your eligibility that needs to be resolved - like if you reported refusing work, had excessive earnings, or there was a question about your availability for work. From what the original poster described, they already served their waiting week (ending 9/30), but EDD mistakenly scheduled an eligibility interview anyway. During that interview, the rep realized the interview wasn't necessary and also said they'd make subsequent weeks available for certification.
I'm at my wit's end with this EDD claim nightmare. Filed back in January and it's been sitting in pending status for almost 2 months now. I've already gone through TWO eligibility interviews - first one was on Feb 12 and they scheduled me for another one yesterday. The agent seemed pretty understanding of my situation (laid off from construction job when project funding dried up) and promised she would 'update my claim right after we hang up.' She even said something like 'everything looks good on my end.' But I've heard that before and STILL nothing has changed. My UI Online account just shows the same pending status for 6 weeks of certifications. I've got rent due next week and less than $200 in my checking account. Has anyone actually had their claim status change after an interview? How long did it take? I'm starting to think these interviews are just stalling tactics.
Has your claim status changed yet? I'm still waiting on mine after a similar situation and getting desperate...
Great to hear your payments switched to paid status! The funds should hit your account within 24-48 hours if you're using the EDD debit card, or might take an extra day if you're using direct deposit. This is pretty typical timing after that second interview - they often do resolve things but their systems take time to update. For future reference, if you do ever get stuck again, make sure you check your EDD inbox regularly and respond to any requests for additional documentation immediately. Delays in providing requested info is one of the biggest reasons claims stay pending.

when my money network card had issues I just gave up and switched to direct deposit lol. way easier. go to your ui online account and change payment preference. btw ur benefit amount is on ur ui online homepage, says something like "claim balance" - when that hits zero ur done until u qualify for a new claim by working again

Since you mentioned having trouble finding work in marketing, you might want to look into the EDD's job services programs while you still have some benefits left. California Training Benefits (CTB) can sometimes extend your eligibility period if you enroll in approved training. Also, check out the America's Job Center of California (AJCC) for free career counseling and job search assistance. They sometimes know about industry-specific programs that can help marketing professionals find new positions or develop additional skills.

AuthorI had no idea about these programs! I'll definitely look into the California Training Benefits option - maybe I can use this opportunity to expand my digital marketing skills while I continue searching. Thanks for this valuable tip!
