Money Network card delivery timing - first EDD payment posted yesterday but can't access funds

Just had my first UI payment ($598) deposited into my EDD account yesterday (3/17), which happened to be my certification day. Since this payment was after the 3/15 cutoff date, I know it will be coming through Money Network instead of my old B of A card from when I collected benefits last time. Has anyone recently gotten a Money Network card? Do they automatically send it once your payment posts, or do I need to request one somehow? I'm a bit anxious because I've got rent due soon and I can literally see the money sitting in my UI Online account but can't access it! Not sure if I need to contact someone or just wait patiently for the card to show up in my mailbox. Really appreciate any info on how long I should expect to wait for this new Money Network card!

I waited 11 days for my card and was going crazy. Called EDD 23 times trying to get through but no luck. Finally it just showed up in the mail. The system is broken they should overnight these cards when people need money for bills and food not make us wait weeks!!

I had this happen in February. The Money Network card took 9 days to arrive after my first payment posted. The most frustrating part is the lack of communication - no email, no notification, nothing to let you know when to expect it. What helped me was setting up the Money Network mobile app as soon as I got the card. It's much better than their website for tracking deposits and managing your funds. You can also set up alerts for new deposits. One thing to watch out for - when you activate the card, they'll try to upsell you on all kinds of features you don't need. Just decline them all.

That's helpful advice about the app and the upsells - thanks! I agree that the lack of communication is so frustrating. Even a simple email telling us when to expect the card would make a huge difference in reducing anxiety.

EDD Money Network card delay - certified 2 weeks ago but still no card received

Stressing out about my boyfriend's unemployment situation. He applied for EDD benefits and got approved, then certified for his first payment on the 2nd. EDD told him they mailed his Money Network debit card, but it's been almost two weeks and NOTHING has shown up in the mail. Is this normal?? He's supposed to certify again this Sunday (the 16th) for his next payment period, but he still hasn't received his card with the first payment. How long should these cards normally take to arrive? Are they super backed up right now or something? I'm worried the card got lost or stolen from our mailbox. Should he call EDD about this or just keep waiting? Anyone else experience delays with their first card?

UPDATE: The card finally arrived today!! It was in a super plain white envelope that didn't look official at all. Thanks everyone for the advice and reassurance!

Great news! Now that he has the card, make sure he activates it right away and sets up a PIN. Also, many people don't realize you can set up direct deposit from the Money Network card to a bank account. It's often faster than waiting for the card to load after each certification. Glad it all worked out!

That's a great tip about direct deposit! I'll let him know he can transfer the funds to his regular account. Thanks again for all your help!

EDD Bank of America card came in mail - No funds loaded yet. Am I approved?

Just received my Bank of America EDD debit card in the mail yesterday. I filed my claim about 3 weeks ago and had my phone interview last week, but my UI Online account still says 'pending' for my payments. The card came in one of those plain-looking envelopes that I almost threw away, but there's zero money on it when I checked the balance online. Does getting the card mean my claim is approved? Or do they just automatically send these out? How long after receiving the card until they actually load money onto it? The EDD website isn't clear about this timeline and I'm getting worried since rent is due next week. Thanks for any help!

when i got my card i called the BoA EDD number on the back and activated it right away then i could at least check the balance with the app so id know when money finally showed up instead of having to log into UI Online all the time

That's smart! I did activate it and download the app. No money yet but at least I'll get notified this way too.

One last thing to remember - once your payments do start coming through, you can set up direct deposit through the BoA EDD card website to have the funds automatically transfer to your regular bank account. Many people don't realize this option exists and just use the card for everything, but direct deposit is usually faster and more convenient.

Oh that's great to know! I would definitely prefer having it go to my regular bank account. Thanks for all your help!

EDD keeps losing my address proof letters for unemployment - appeal nightmare!

I'm at my wits end with this EDD situation!!! Applied for unemployment 6 weeks ago and got denied because they claim they 'never received' my proof of address documents. Now they sent me some appeal paperwork which I completed and mailed back WITH MORE PROOF DOCS, and guess what?? They're saying AGAIN they never got it! How convenient for them! I've sent everything certified mail twice now and I'm out of money for more postage. When I call the 800 number it just hangs up on me after the automated messages. Does anybody know what address these proof letters are supposed to go to? Or if there's a way to submit them online instead? Or any direct number where a HUMAN actually answers?? This feels like they're deliberately losing my mail so they don't have to pay me!

EDD DOES THIS ON PURPOSE!!! They denied me THREE TIMES claiming they never received my documents even though I sent everything certified mail with signature confirmation! It's a tactic to discourage people from getting benefits they're entitled to. After my 3rd appeal I finally got approved but they made me wait FIVE MONTHS with no income. The system is designed to make you give up. DON'T GIVE UP!!

I don't think they do it intentionally, but their mail processing system is definitely broken. With how many claims they handle, things get lost all the time. That's why uploading directly is the only way to be sure.

Maybe not the individual workers but the SYSTEM is designed to be frustrating. Why else would they have 6 different mailing addresses and no clear instructions? They could easily fix this but they don't want to!

UPDATE: I was able to upload all my documents through UI Online! Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Now the question is... how long should I expect to wait before hearing anything back? Should I still try calling them to confirm they received everything?

0 coins

Good job uploading the documents! Typically, you should allow 7-10 business days for EDD to process uploaded documents. If you don't see any updates in your UI Online account after that time, then yes, I would recommend calling to confirm receipt. When you call, specifically ask them to check if your documents are visible in their system and to note in your file that you're following up on previously submitted documents. Request a confirmation number for the call, which provides evidence of your due diligence if there are further issues. Also, keep checking your UI Online inbox daily, as they may send requests for additional information.

Thank you! I'll wait the 10 business days and then follow up. Really appreciate everyone's help with this!

EDD eligibility if employer won't restore previous hours after temporary shift change ended?

I've got a situation with my work hours that I'm not sure how to handle. I agreed to temporarily work the night shift for 3 months (Jan-March) because they were short-staffed. We had a written agreement that I'd go back to my regular day shift on April 1st. Now my manager is saying there's 'no availability' on day shift and I have to stay on nights permanently or quit. This completely disrupts my family life as I have two young kids. My hours would be exactly the same, just different time of day. If I quit because they won't honor our agreement about the temporary shift change, would I qualify for unemployment benefits? Has anyone dealt with something similar? I've been with this company for 4 years with no issues until now.

wait i just thought of somthing... can u just refuse to work nights and make them fire u instead of quitting? tht would be easier 4 unemployment right??

This is actually NOT good advice. If you refuse to work your assigned schedule, that's insubordination, which is misconduct. You can be denied benefits for misconduct. A good cause voluntary quit with proper documentation is a much better approach in this situation.

oh ok my bad. just thought it might b easier

Thank you all so much for the advice! I've documented everything and have a meeting with my manager tomorrow. I'll try to find a solution but will be prepared to file for benefits if needed. I'll definitely use the specific language suggested about "material change" and "good cause" when filing. I'm also going to check out that Claimyr service if I need to speak with an EDD rep. Will update once I know more!
