EDD phone number isn't working - keeps saying too busy to take calls
I've been trying to call the EDD phone number (800-300-5616) for three days straight and I keep getting the same recording that they're too busy to take my call. I'm following the menu exactly - press 1 for English, wait, then 1-1-***. But I never even get put on hold! Just the busy message every single time. Has anyone actually gotten through recently? I need to update my address and it's been impossible to do online.

Same exact problem here. Started calling Monday at 8am sharp, must have tried 200 times over 3 days. The system won't even put me in queue anymore.

200 times?! This is insane. How are we supposed to resolve anything if they won't even answer?

I counted 247 attempts yesterday alone. My phone bill is going to be ridiculous.

The EDD phone number system is completely overwhelmed. I've been calling for 2 weeks trying to fix a payment issue. Maybe 5-10 attempts per day because I can't dedicate my whole life to this.

Only 5-10 attempts? You need to call way more than that. I usually do 50+ attempts just to get through once.

I work full time, can't spend 4 hours a day calling EDD. There has to be a better way.

Had the same frustration until I found Claimyr. They basically call the EDD phone number for you and forward the call when an agent picks up. Got through in 23 minutes last week instead of spending all day redialing.

Is that legit? How much does it cost? At this point I'm willing to pay something reasonable.

Yeah it's real, claimyr.com. Cost me like $20 but saved me literally days of calling. Check out their demo video: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10

Just looked this up - thousands of reviews. Might be worth it instead of burning through my phone plan minutes.

Pro tip: Don't bother calling between 12pm-1:30pm. The entire call center takes lunch and literally nobody answers during that time. Learned this the hard way after wasting hours.

Evelyn Rivera
Wait, the WHOLE center takes lunch at the same time? That's ridiculous.

Yep, complete dead zone. Also avoid calling after 4pm or Monday mornings. Wednesday/Thursday afternoons seem best.

This explains so much! I always call during my lunch break around 12:30 and never get anywhere.

The EDD phone number 833-978-7753 is the exact same line as 800-300-5616. Don't let anyone tell you there's a secret number or specialist line - those don't exist anymore.

Thank you for clarifying this! I've been switching between numbers thinking one was better.

Wish I knew this sooner. Been alternating numbers for nothing.

I've mapped out the menu timing. After dialing the EDD phone number, press 1 immediately, then wait exactly 70 seconds before pressing 1-1-***. Pressing too early resets the system.

Evelyn Rivera
70 seconds exactly? I've been waiting random amounts of time.

Rami Samuels
I timed it with a stopwatch. 70 seconds is the sweet spot. Less than that and you get kicked back to the main menu.

This is incredibly helpful. Going to try this timing tomorrow morning.

Finally got through yesterday after 89 attempts! Called at 2:15pm on Wednesday, got put on hold for 1 hour 47 minutes. Agent was super helpful once I got connected.

89 attempts in one day?! How do you even keep track?

I use the tally marks on paper. Sounds crazy but it helps me stay motivated. Wednesday afternoons definitely work better.

Nearly 2 hours on hold though... that's almost a part-time job just to make one call.

Been using auto-redial apps but they don't work with the EDD phone number system. The menu navigation is too complex for basic auto-dialers.

Ella rollingthunder87
That's why Claimyr works - it's specifically designed for government phone systems like EDD. Regular auto-dialers can't handle the wait times and menu complexity.

Makes sense. I'll check it out if I can't get through manually by Friday.

WARNING: Even if you get on hold, about 40% of calls get dropped by their system. Happened to me twice this week after waiting over an hour each time.

This happened to me yesterday! 1.5 hours on hold then just disconnected. I was furious.

So even if I get through, there's a chance it drops anyway? This system is completely broken.

Unfortunately yes. It's a known issue with their phone system that they haven't fixed.

Set my alarm for 7:30am, coffee ready, started dialing at 7:55am sharp. This is the only way I've had success with the EDD phone number. Early bird gets the worm!

7:55am? They don't even open until 8am.

Mikayla Brown
Exactly! I dial right before they open so I'm one of the first in queue when the lines go live at 8am.

Smart strategy. I'm definitely trying this tomorrow morning.

Tried calling 67 times today, fingers are cramping from hitting redial. There has to be technology that can do this automatically and actually work with EDD's system.

Check out Claimyr - my coworker used them last month and got through in under 30 minutes. They handle all the redialing and menu navigation automatically.

30 minutes vs my 67 failed attempts today... yeah I'm definitely looking into this.

I mentioned Claimyr earlier - seriously worth every penny. My time is worth more than the service fee.

For those tracking patterns: Monday mornings are impossible, Friday afternoons are pointless, and never call during lunch (12-1:30pm). Best success has been Tuesday-Thursday between 2-4pm.

This matches my experience perfectly. Monday mornings are a complete waste of time with the EDD phone number.

Friday afternoons make no sense anyway - even if you get through, you can't resolve issues over the weekend.

My phone plan only has 500 minutes and I've used 400 this week trying to reach EDD. Going to have overage charges just from trying to get through to fix my claim.

Use WiFi calling if your phone supports it - won't count against your minutes.

Good tip! Didn't think of that. Still frustrating that we have to jump through all these hoops.

Update: Used Claimyr this morning, got a callback with an EDD agent in 34 minutes. Agent fixed my address change in 5 minutes. Best money I've spent in months.

Evelyn Rivera
That's exactly what I need to do - change my address! How much did it cost total?

Harper Collins
I think it was around $19. Considering I've wasted probably 15+ hours trying to call manually, totally worth it.

Remember that EDD hours are M-F 8am-5pm Pacific Time. Don't waste time calling evenings or weekends like I did my first week.

I made this mistake too! Kept trying Sunday nights thinking maybe they had weekend hours.

At least you figured it out. I'm still struggling to get through during actual business hours!
