EDD payment to existing BofA card - will I get funds on old card or need new one?
I just got approved for a new EDD claim last week after being out of work for a couple months. I previously had unemployment benefits about 14 months ago and still have my Bank of America EDD debit card from that claim (it's not expired or anything). I certified for my first two weeks yesterday and everything shows as 'paid' in the system today. Does anyone know if the money will automatically load onto my existing BofA card, or will EDD issue me a completely new card for this claim? The card I have is one of the newer chip ones. And how long should I expect to wait before the funds are available? I'm trying to figure out if I need to budget differently for next week if there's going to be a delay waiting for a new card to arrive. Thanks for any info!

if its the same ssn they will use the same card. funds usually show up 24-48 hrs after it shows paid in the system. sometimes faster

•Thanks! That's a relief. I was worried I might have to wait weeks for a new card to arrive.

Yes, your funds will go to your existing Bank of America EDD debit card as long as it hasn't expired. The EDD uses the same card for subsequent claims tied to your Social Security number. The typical timeframe for funds to appear on your card is 24-48 hours after your claim shows 'paid' in UI Online, though holiday weekends can cause delays. One thing to note - if it's been over a year since you last used the card, make sure you can still log into your Bank of America EDD account online to check the balance. Sometimes people forget their login credentials when there's a long gap between claims.

•I just checked and was able to log into my BofA account! The balance is still $0 but at least I know my login works. I'll keep checking it over the next couple days. Thanks for the detailed info.

•This isn't always the case. The EDD payment processing system runs batch transfers at different times. While some people do see midnight deposits, others may wait until the next business day. The EDD's official guideline is 24-48 hours after 'paid' status appears.

I had this EXACT situation in January!! They used my old card from 2022 and the money showed up about 36 hours after it switched to paid status. Make sure ur mailing address is current with both EDD AND Bank of America though, they're separate systems and dont automatically update each other!!!! I learned that the hard way when I needed a replacement card and it went to my old address ðŸ˜

•That's a great tip about the address! I did move since my last claim, and I updated my address with EDD but didn't think about doing it with BofA separately. I'll do that right now. Thank you!

I went through this situation last fall and discovered that while yes, they use the same card, sometimes there can be unexpected delays. In my case, my card was placed on hold because there had been no activity for over a year. I spent THREE DAYS trying to reach Bank of America EDD customer service to unlock it, constantly getting disconnected or facing hours-long hold times. I eventually used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get in touch with an EDD representative who coordinated with Bank of America to resolve the issue. You can see how it works in their video demo: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Hopefully your situation goes smoothly and the funds appear without any issues! Just wanted to share my experience in case you run into unexpected problems.

•Thanks for the heads up. I haven't used my card in over a year, so that might be an issue. I'll keep an eye out for any problems, and it's good to know there's a service that can help if I can't get through to BofA or EDD.

What about direct deposit? I thought EDD was moving away from those BofA cards? My neighbor said she just gets direct deposit now.

•EDD now offers both options. You can choose direct deposit through the Money Network, which was implemented in July 2023, or continue using the Bank of America EDD debit card. If you already had a claim established with the BofA card before the switch, they typically continue using that method unless you specifically request to change to direct deposit. New claimants get the choice during the application process.

WATCH OUT if you hit any disqualification weeks!!!! I had this happen & EDD marked my weeks as paid but then BofA never got the funds because of a penalty week situation even though UI Online showed PAID!!! It was nightmare to figure out what happened, had to call EDD multiple times.

•This is a bit misleading. If there's a disqualification or penalty week, the UI Online system should show 'Disqualification' or 'Pending' rather than 'Paid'. If your UI Online account actually displays 'Paid' status, the funds should be transferred to your payment method. There are occasional system glitches, but they're rare. The most common reason for delays is that the system shows 'Paid' but the funds take the full 48 hours to transfer to Bank of America.

•Congrats on getting your payment! That's helpful to know about the timing too. I'll keep checking my card balance tomorrow.

Just wanted to add that if you're worried about timing, you can also call the Bank of America EDD customer service line at 1-866-692-9374 to check your card balance without logging into the website. It's automated and available 24/7. Sometimes it's faster than waiting for the website to update, especially if you're checking frequently. The funds should definitely go to your existing card since it's tied to your SSN, but having that phone number handy can give you peace of mind while you wait for the deposit to hit.

•That's a really useful tip about the phone line! I didn't know you could check the balance that way. I've been refreshing the website every few hours since yesterday, so having a 24/7 automated option will definitely help with my anxiety about waiting for the funds. Thank you for sharing that number!

I'm in a similar boat - just got approved for a new claim after having one about 18 months ago. Still have my old BofA card too. Reading through these responses is really reassuring! I was definitely worried about having to wait for a new card to arrive. The timing info is super helpful too - sounds like most people see funds within 24-48 hours. I'll make sure to update my address with Bank of America separately like Freya mentioned. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

•I'm glad these responses are helping you too! I was so stressed about potentially waiting weeks for a new card, but it sounds like we're both in good shape with our existing cards. The address update tip is definitely something I wouldn't have thought of on my own. Good luck with your claim - hopefully we both see our funds hit our cards soon!
