EDD SDI payment delay to BofA card - how many days until funds appear?
I just got my first electronic benefit payment notification from EDD this morning (woohoo!) but I'm confused about when I'll actually see the money. I have an older BofA EDD debit card from a previous claim years ago. I logged into the BofA app to check my balance, but it still shows $0.00. Is there typically a delay between getting the notification and when the funds actually become available on the card? I need to pay rent next week and I'm getting anxious. Does anyone know how long this usually takes? Thanks in advance!

Congrats on getting your payment processed! There's usually a 24-48 hour delay between the EDD notification and when the funds actually show up on your BofA card. I got my notification on a Tuesday morning once and the money appeared Wednesday afternoon. Make sure your old card isn't expired though - if it is, you'll need to call BofA to request a new one, which can take 7-10 business days to arrive.

•Thank you! That's reassuring. I just checked the expiration date on my card and it's still valid for another year. I'll give it until tomorrow afternoon before I start to worry.

•Good to know it might take longer! EDD's systems always seem to work on their own mysterious timeline.

It typically takes 24-72 hours for funds to appear on your BofA card after you receive the payment notification. However, if you received the notification on a Friday, you might not see the funds until Monday or Tuesday due to weekend processing delays. Also, if this is your first payment on this claim, it sometimes takes a bit longer than subsequent payments. If you don't see anything by the 3rd business day, I'd recommend contacting both EDD and Bank of America to make sure there are no issues.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation! Today is Wednesday, so hopefully I'll see it by Friday at the latest. It's definitely my first payment for this claim period, so maybe that's why it's taking a bit longer.

Are you sure your old BofA card is still linked to your current claim? Sometimes if it's been a long time they issue a new card automatically. Check if EDD has your current mailing address! My roommate had this happen and a new card was sent to her old apartment!

•YES THIS!! happened to me too!! My last claim was in 2022 and when I filed again in 2025 they sent a new card even though my old one wasn't expired. Double check your SDI Online account to make sure they have your current address.

If you're worried about the delay, I highly recommend using Claimyr to get through to an actual EDD agent. I was in a similar situation where my payment was in limbo for days. After spending hours trying to reach someone at EDD with no luck, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 25 minutes who could see exactly what was happening with my payment. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd. It really helped ease my anxiety about when my money would arrive.

The EDD disability payment system is SUCH A JOKE!! I've had times where money appeared instantly and other times where it took 4-5 days with NO EXPLANATION! And don't even bother trying to call EDD customer service - they'll just transfer you to BofA, who will transfer you back to EDD in an endless loop of bureaucratic incompetence!!! The whole system is designed to make it as difficult as possible to access YOUR OWN MONEY when you're already struggling with health issues!

•While the system isn't perfect, in my experience, the delays are usually due to banking processing times rather than EDD deliberately making things difficult. If you call the dedicated disability line instead of the general EDD line, you typically get better assistance with payment issues.

UPDATE: The money just appeared on my card this morning! So it took about 36 hours from notification to funds being available. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance!

This happened to me last month when I got my pregnancy disability payment. My old card from 2023 still worked fine but I had to transfer the money to my regular bank account because the BofA app is sooooo glitchy. Just FYI you can set up direct transfers in the app so you don't have to keep checking the BofA balance!

•That's a great tip about setting up direct transfers! I'll definitely do that so I can move the money to my regular checking account. How long did the transfer usually take to process?

•Mine usually takes 1-2 business days for transfers. Sometimes it's faster though!
