EDD SDI payment delay - related to new debit card transition?

I'm on disability and my payments typically hit my Bank of America card around 9pm with an email notification like clockwork. It's been 2 days past my usual payment date and still nothing. Could this delay be because EDD is transitioning to those new Money Network debit cards? I haven't received my new card in the mail yet, and I'm starting to worry about paying my rent next week. Has anyone else experienced payment delays recently? If it's because of the card transition, where would my benefit payment even go if I don't have the new card yet?

I had the same issue last week! My payment was delayed by 3 days. When I finally got through to an EDD rep, they told me it WAS because of the transition, but the funds still go to your BOA card until you activate the new Money Network card. They're just experiencing system delays with processing payments right now. Have you checked your payment history in your SDI Online account? Sometimes the payment shows as processed there before it hits the card.

Thanks for this info! I just checked my SDI Online account and nothing shows as processed yet. Did your payment eventually show up on your BOA card or did they make you wait for the new card?

Have you tried calling early in the morning? Like right when they open at 8am? I've had better luck getting through that way. Also, you might want to check out Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they have a service that can connect you to an EDD agent usually within 5-10 minutes. Saved me hours of frustration last month when my certification was stuck pending. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd

This is definitely related to the card transition. According to the EDD website, payments will continue to go to your BOA card until you activate the new Money Network card, but there are processing delays happening during the transition period. The important thing to know is that even if your payment is delayed, it will still be backdated to when it was supposed to be issued. If you're worried about rent, you might want to call your SDI office directly and explain the situation. Sometimes they can expedite the payment if you're facing hardship. The transition period is causing a lot of confusion, but your benefits aren't lost - just delayed.

yeah right "just delayed" lol. EDD ALWAYS has some excuse for why our money is late. first it was "COVID backlog" then it was "system upgrades" now its "card transition" - they just dont want to pay us!!!! i bet the new cards are just another way for them to make it harder to get our benefits!!

My brother had disability last month and his payment was late too but it did eventually show up on his BOA card. The EDD told him they're processing payments in batches because of the system update for the new cards. Have you recieved any mail about when your new card is coming? I got mine already but I'm on unemployment not disability so maybe they're sending them out in groups?

I got a letter about 3 weeks ago saying my card would arrive within 10-14 business days, but nothing yet. Maybe they're sending disability cards later? Did your brother's payment show as processed on the website before it hit his card?

Let me clarify some things about the card transition that might help ease your concerns: 1. All payments certified and approved before June 30, 2025 will still be issued to your Bank of America card even if you haven't received your Money Network card yet. 2. Any payment delays right now are temporary and related to system updates as they integrate the new payment processor. 3. You should be able to see pending payments in your SDI Online account under "Payment History" even before they hit your card. 4. The new Money Network cards are being mailed out in phases based on claim type and region. Most SDI recipients should receive theirs by the end of the month. 5. Once you receive and activate your new card, any new payments will go there instead of the BOA card. If your payment doesn't appear in the next 2-3 business days, I recommend calling the SDI helpline directly. There's always a possibility that the delay is unrelated to the card transition and specific to your claim.

This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I'll keep checking my SDI Online account and give it a couple more days before calling. Hoping I get the new card soon too.

Quick update: my payment finally posted to my BOA card this morning, 4 days late. The rep I spoke with yesterday said they're dealing with a huge backlog because of the system changes, but payments are still being processed, just slower than usual. Hang in there!

Does anyone know how long we can keep using the BOA cards after we get the new ones? I have auto-payments set up with my BOA card and don't want those to bounce.

According to the EDD website, you can continue using your BOA card until the balance is zero, but no new payments will be added to it once you activate the Money Network card. I'd recommend updating your autopay information as soon as you activate the new card. BOA cards will remain active until September 30, 2025, even if you've already switched to Money Network.

UPDATE: My payment finally showed up on my BOA card this morning! It was 4 days late but at least it's there. And I just got my Money Network card in the mail today too - talk about timing! Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance.

Glad to hear it worked out! Make sure to activate your Money Network card right away and update any automatic payments you might have set up. The transition should be smooth from here.
