EDD payment timeline after certifying - same day deposit possible?

So I'm about to certify for UI benefits for the first time today (Sunday). I'm really confused about when the money will actually hit my account. Some people told me it takes 24 hours, others said 3 days. I set up direct deposit when I first applied last month, but I'm not sure if that speeds things up or not. Does anyone know if I certify today (around noon), will I get paid tonight or tomorrow? I've got rent due on Tuesday and I'm cutting it SUPER close this month.

it depends on ur bank mostly. edd usually processes same day or next day if u certify on sunday morning. but then ur bank might hold it 1-3 days. i certify at midnight when it opens and usually see $$ by monday night with wells fargo.

Thanks! So certifying early in the day might help? I have Chase if that matters.

The EDD processing timeline is pretty consistent. When you certify on Sunday, EDD typically processes it overnight Sunday into Monday, assuming there are no issues with your certification (like reporting earnings or answering 'yes' to questions that trigger a review). With direct deposit: - EDD processes overnight Sunday/Monday - Payment shows as 'paid' in UI Online usually by Monday morning - Fund transfer to your bank initiates Monday - Most banks deposit 24-48 hours after that So realistically, you're looking at Tuesday or Wednesday for the funds to be available in your account. Chase sometimes holds deposits for a full business day.

Ugh, cutting it close then for my rent! Do you know if there's ANY way to speed it up? Would calling them help?

I ALWAYS have problems with the timing!! Even when my UI Online says PAID on Monday morning, my stupid bank doesn't show the money until THURSDAY sometimes!!! It's ridiculous how they can hold OUR MONEY for days when we need it NOW. I've been on unemployment since January and I swear the system is designed to make us suffer.

same. its like they dont understand ppl need the money for BILLS that have DEADLINES

If you're in a rush for your payment, you might want to look into using Claimyr to reach an EDD agent quickly (claimyr.com). I was in a similar situation last month where my payment was stuck in pending and I needed it ASAP for bills. Used their service and got connected to an agent in under 15 minutes who fixed my issue. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km As for your original question, direct deposit timeline: - Certify Sunday - Shows 'paid' in system Monday (sometimes late Sunday night) - Most banks deposit Tuesday-Wednesday - Some credit unions are faster One tip: certify at midnight when the system first allows it. This puts you at the front of the processing queue.

Thanks for the tip about Claimyr! I might need to try that if the money doesn't hit my account by Tuesday. And good advice about certifying at midnight - I'll definitely do that next time.

Hey there! Just wanted to share my payment timeline experience. I certify every other Sunday around 7am and my payment consistently follows this pattern: - Sunday: Certify in morning - Monday: Status changes to "Paid" in UI Online around 10am - Tuesday: Money deposited to my bank account (Bank of America) by noon It's been super consistent for me over the past 5 months. The first payment took longer though - almost a week because they were verifying everything. But after that, it's been clockwork. Also, make absolute sure you answer all certification questions correctly. If you make a mistake or something seems off to their system, it can trigger a manual review that delays payment by days or even weeks!

0 coins

That's really helpful - thanks! I'm hoping mine is as reliable as yours. Did your first payment take longer even with direct deposit?

0 coins

does anybody know if we get paid early if theres a holiday coming up? next Monday is a holiday so wondering if that changes anything for payments this week

0 coins

Holidays actually tend to delay payments by a day since banks don't process ACH transfers on federal holidays. So if you normally get paid on Monday and it's a holiday, expect it Tuesday instead.

btw chase bank is usually pretty fast with edd deposits. my roomate has chase and gets his money like 24hrs after it says paid in the system

0 coins

That's good to hear! Fingers crossed mine comes quickly too.

its not really about when u certify its about when edd decides to pay lol. sometimes they make u wait for no reason. i certified at exactly 12:01am two weeks ago and still didnt get paid till wednesday so 🤷‍♂️

THIS!!!! The system is designed to make us wait and suffer! They hold our money hostage and there's NOTHING we can do about it!

One clarification - some people confuse the EDD Money Network debit card with direct deposit. They're different payment methods. The Money Network card payments typically process slightly faster since it's EDD's own system. If you set up direct deposit when you first applied, double-check your UI Online account under "Payment Methods" to confirm it shows your bank account information correctly. If there's any issue with your direct deposit information, EDD will default to sending funds to a Money Network card, which would need to be mailed to you (taking 7-10 business days).

Just checked and you're right - my account shows direct deposit is set up correctly. Would have been a disaster if it wasn't! Thanks for the heads up.

Just wanted to add my experience as another data point! I've been on UI for about 3 months now and have Chase as well. My typical timeline is: - Certify Sunday morning (usually around 8am) - Status shows "Paid" by Monday afternoon - Money hits my Chase account Tuesday morning, usually before 10am The key thing I learned is to make sure you don't have any "yes" answers on your certification that could flag it for review. My second payment got delayed by 4 days because I accidentally clicked "yes" on the job search question when I meant "no" and it triggered a manual review. Since you're cutting it close with rent on Tuesday, I'd suggest certifying as early as possible today and keeping your fingers crossed. If the money doesn't show up by Tuesday morning, you might want to call your landlord and explain the situation - most are understanding about UI payment delays since it's so common right now. Good luck!

I'm new to this whole process and reading everyone's experiences is really helpful but also stressful! I just applied for UI benefits last week and I'm still waiting for my eligibility determination. For those who have been through this - how long did it take from application to your first payment? I'm worried about the timing since I have bills coming up too. Also, when you first set up direct deposit, did you get any confirmation that it was processed correctly? I want to make sure I don't run into the Money Network card issue that @Zara Shah mentioned!

0 coins

Hey! I'm pretty new to this too - just about to certify for my first time today actually! From what I've gathered reading through all these responses, the timeline from application to first payment can vary a lot. Some people mentioned their first payment took almost a week even with direct deposit because EDD verifies everything initially. For the direct deposit confirmation, when you log into your UI Online account, there should be a "Payment Methods" section where you can see if your bank info is set up correctly. I'd definitely double-check that before you certify for the first time to avoid any delays! @Zara Shah seems to really know the system well - maybe she has more specific advice about the application to first payment timeline? The whole process is definitely stressful when you re'worried about bills!

0 coins

@Dmitry Smirnov For the application to first payment timeline, it typically takes 2-4 weeks from when you first apply to when you receive your first payment. This includes: - 1-2 weeks for EDD to process your application and determine eligibility - Another 1-2 weeks after your first certification for the payment to actually hit your account since (they verify everything more thoroughly on the first payment Yes,) you should get confirmation that your direct deposit is set up correctly. In your UI Online account under Payment "Methods it" will show your bank account details. Make sure the routing and account numbers are exactly right - even one digit off will cause them to default to the Money Network card. One tip: if you re'worried about timing, you can always call your bank to ask about their ACH deposit processing times for government payments. Some banks are faster than others, and knowing your specific bank s'timeline can help you plan better. The waiting is definitely the hardest part, especially when bills are looming! But once you get into the regular certification rhythm, it becomes much more predictable.

For what it's worth, I've been on UI for about 6 months now and I've found that Chase is actually one of the more reliable banks for EDD deposits. My timeline is pretty consistent: - Certify Sunday (I do it around 6am when I wake up) - UI Online shows "Paid" by Monday evening - Money in my Chase account by Tuesday morning, usually around 9am The first payment did take longer - about 5 days total because they do extra verification. But after that it's been like clockwork. One thing that might help with your rent situation: if you have a good relationship with your landlord, consider reaching out proactively to let them know you're expecting a UI payment that might be a day late. Most landlords are pretty understanding about UI timing issues these days since so many tenants are dealing with it. Better to communicate early than wait until the last minute! Also, definitely certify as early as possible today. Even if it doesn't make a huge difference, every hour counts when you're cutting it close. Good luck!

0 coins

This is really reassuring to hear from another Chase user! I'm definitely going to certify as early as possible today and reach out to my landlord just in case. Better safe than sorry. Thanks for the practical advice about being proactive with communication - that's something I wouldn't have thought of but makes total sense. Hopefully I'll have a success story to share next time around!

Just wanted to add my recent experience since you have Chase too! I certified last Sunday around 11am and here's exactly what happened: - Sunday 11am: Certified for benefits - Monday 2pm: UI Online showed "Paid" status - Tuesday 8:30am: Money was in my Chase checking account So you're looking at about 45 hours total from certification to money in account with Chase, which should work for your Tuesday rent if you certify early today. The key is certifying as early as possible - I've noticed when I certify later in the day it can push everything back by several hours. One other tip: make sure your phone number is updated in your UI Online profile. Sometimes EDD will text you when payments are processed, which can give you peace of mind while you're waiting. And definitely double-check that your direct deposit info is correct before certifying - you don't want any surprises with your first payment! Fingers crossed it all works out timing-wise for your rent! The system isn't perfect but it's usually pretty reliable once you get into the routine.

0 coins

This is exactly the kind of detailed timeline I needed to see! 45 hours from certification to Chase deposit sounds totally doable for making Tuesday rent. I'm going to set an alarm to certify right at midnight tonight to get in that early queue everyone's talking about. Really appreciate you sharing the exact timestamps - it helps so much to see real examples rather than just general estimates. Also good call on checking the phone number for text updates, I'll make sure that's current too. Thanks for giving me some hope that this might actually work out!

I've been on UI for about 8 months now and want to share what I've learned about speeding up payments. The absolute KEY is certifying at exactly 12:01 AM when the system opens - this puts you first in line for processing. I use an alarm every two weeks for this! My consistent timeline with direct deposit (I have Wells Fargo): - Sunday 12:01 AM: Certify - Sunday 11 PM: Status changes to "Paid" - Monday 6 AM: Money hits my account Since you're with Chase, you should see similar timing. Chase processes ACH transfers pretty quickly for government payments. Pro tip: Screenshot your certification confirmation page! If there are any delays, having proof of when you certified can help if you need to call EDD. For your rent situation - definitely reach out to your landlord NOW and explain you're expecting UI payment Monday/Tuesday. Most are understanding since UI delays are so common. Also consider if you have any other payment options as backup (credit card, family loan, etc.) just in case. The first payment is always the wildcard because of verification, but based on everyone's experiences here, you should be okay if you certify early today!

0 coins

Wow, this is incredibly helpful! I had no idea that certifying right at midnight could make such a big difference - getting money by Monday morning would be a game changer for my situation. I'm definitely setting that alarm now. The screenshot tip is brilliant too, I wouldn't have thought of that but it makes perfect sense to have documentation. Already reached out to my landlord this morning and you're right, they were totally understanding about potential UI timing issues. Thanks for sharing your 8 months of experience - it's reassuring to hear from someone who has this process down to a science!

I've been dealing with EDD payments for about a year now and wanted to share something that might help with your timing anxiety. I use a credit union (Golden 1) and they actually post EDD deposits faster than most big banks - usually within 12-18 hours of when UI Online shows "Paid" status. If you're really stressed about making rent Tuesday, here's what I'd do: 1. Certify at exactly midnight tonight (set that alarm!) 2. Check UI Online Monday morning to see if it shows "Paid" 3. If it does, call Chase and ask specifically about their timeline for ACH government deposits - they might be able to give you a more precise estimate Also, many banks have mobile apps that show pending deposits before they officially clear. Download the Chase app if you don't have it - sometimes you can see the money is coming even if it's not available yet, which at least gives peace of mind. One last thing - if Tuesday comes and you're still short, consider asking your landlord if you can split the payment (pay what you have Tuesday, rest when UI hits). Most landlords prefer partial payment over late fees and eviction processes. You've got this! The first certification is always the most nerve-wracking, but it gets so much easier once you know your personal timeline.

0 coins

This is such solid advice, especially about checking for pending deposits in the Chase app! I didn't even think about that but you're right - seeing that the money is coming (even if not available yet) would definitely help with the anxiety. The tip about calling Chase directly to ask about their government ACH timeline is smart too. I'm also going to keep the partial payment option in my back pocket just in case. It's really reassuring to hear from someone who's been navigating this for a full year - gives me confidence that even if this first payment is stressful, I'll eventually get the hang of the timing. Thanks for all the practical backup strategies!

Hey! I've been on UI for about 4 months and have Chase too. Your timing should work out fine for Tuesday rent if you certify early today. My experience with Chase has been really consistent: - Sunday morning: Certify (I do it around 7am) - Monday afternoon: UI Online shows "Paid" - Tuesday morning: Money in Chase account (usually by 10am) The first payment did take an extra day or two because they verify everything more carefully, but since you set up direct deposit when you applied, you should be good. Just make sure to double-check your payment method in UI Online shows your Chase account info correctly. One thing that really helped my peace of mind - Chase's mobile app will sometimes show pending deposits before they fully clear. So even if the money isn't available Monday night, you might see it as "pending" which at least confirms it's on the way. Definitely certify as early as possible today (or right at midnight if you can stay up)! And honestly, reaching out to your landlord proactively is smart - most are pretty understanding about UI timing since it's so common right now. You've got this!

This is super helpful to hear from another Chase user! I'm feeling much more confident about the timing now. Just double-checked my UI Online account and confirmed my direct deposit info is correct. Planning to set that midnight alarm and certify right when it opens. Really appreciate you mentioning the Chase app pending deposits feature - that's going to save me so much anxiety on Monday! Already talked to my landlord this morning and they're cool with waiting an extra day if needed. Thanks for the encouragement, it's so nice to have people who actually understand what this process is like!

I've been on UI for about 2 months now and can share my Chase experience too! My timeline has been super consistent: - Sunday: Certify around 9am - Monday: Shows "Paid" in UI Online by early afternoon - Tuesday: Money hits Chase account between 8-10am The first payment took about 3 days instead of 2, but after that it's been like clockwork. Since you're cutting it close with Tuesday rent, definitely certify as early as possible today - even those few extra hours can make a difference in processing order. One tip that saved me stress: enable mobile banking notifications for deposits over a certain amount. That way you'll get an instant text when the money hits your account instead of constantly checking your balance. Also, Chase customer service can usually give you a pretty accurate timeline if you call and ask specifically about government ACH deposits. Sounds like you've already talked to your landlord which is smart. The UI payment system isn't perfect but it's usually reliable once you learn the timing. Good luck with your first certification!

Thanks for sharing your Chase timeline! It's so reassuring to see how consistent everyone's experience has been with Chase - seems like Tuesday morning deposit is pretty reliable. I'm definitely setting up those mobile banking notifications right now, that's such a smart idea to avoid constantly refreshing the app! Also going to call Chase tomorrow to ask about their specific government ACH timeline just to have all the info. Really appreciate everyone in this thread sharing their real experiences - it's made me feel so much more confident about this whole process. Fingers crossed my first certification goes smoothly!

I've been on UI for about 3 months and have had a really similar experience with Chase! My typical timeline is almost identical to what others are sharing: - Sunday: Certify (I usually do it around 6am) - Monday: UI Online shows "Paid" by afternoon - Tuesday: Money in Chase account by 9am usually The first payment definitely took longer - like 4-5 days total because they do extra verification on your initial claim. But after that it's been super predictable. Since you're worried about Tuesday rent, I'd definitely suggest certifying right at midnight when the system opens. It really does seem to make a difference in processing speed based on what everyone's saying. Also, Chase's mobile app is great for tracking - you can set up alerts for deposits and sometimes see pending transactions before they fully clear. One more tip: if you're really cutting it close, consider downloading Zelle or Venmo if your landlord accepts those. Sometimes you can transfer money instantly once it hits your account instead of waiting for a check to clear. You should be fine with Tuesday timing if you certify early today! The stress of the first payment is real, but it gets so much easier once you know your personal timeline.

This is all such great advice! I'm feeling so much more prepared now after reading everyone's experiences with Chase. Setting my alarm for midnight tonight to certify right when it opens - sounds like that early timing really can make a difference. The Zelle/Venmo tip is brilliant too, I'll definitely ask my landlord if they accept those for faster transfer once the money hits. It's amazing how helpful this community is - I was so stressed about the timing this morning but now I feel like I actually have a solid plan. Thanks for sharing your timeline and all the practical tips!

I've been on UI for about 6 months now and want to add another Chase data point since so many people are asking! My timeline is super consistent: - Sunday: Certify around 5am (I'm an early riser) - Monday: UI Online shows "Paid" by late morning/early afternoon - Tuesday: Money hits Chase account between 7-9am The key things I've learned: 1. Certifying early definitely helps - I've tested this by certifying at different times 2. Chase is actually one of the faster banks for EDD deposits compared to what I hear about others 3. Your first payment WILL take longer (mine took 5 days) but don't panic - that's normal for verification For your rent situation, you should be totally fine if you certify early today. I'd recommend setting that midnight alarm everyone's talking about. Also, Chase mobile app notifications are a lifesaver - set them up for deposits over your benefit amount so you know the second it hits. One thing nobody mentioned yet: if you have Chase Premier Plus or higher checking accounts, they sometimes release government deposits a few hours earlier than basic accounts. Not a huge difference but every hour counts when you're cutting it close! The first certification is always nerve-wracking but you're in good hands with Chase and direct deposit. You've got this!

This is incredibly detailed - thank you! I had no idea that different Chase account tiers might affect deposit timing, that's really good to know. I have their basic checking so I won't expect any special perks, but it's still reassuring to hear Chase is generally faster than other banks for EDD deposits. Just set up my mobile notifications and that midnight alarm is ready to go! Reading everyone's experiences has been such a relief - I was panicking this morning but now I feel like I have a solid understanding of what to expect. Really appreciate you testing the early certification timing too, that gives me confidence it's worth staying up until midnight. Here's hoping my first payment goes as smoothly as everyone else's once they got past that initial verification period!

I've been on UI for about 7 months now and have Chase as well! Your timeline should definitely work for Tuesday rent if you certify early today. My experience has been really consistent: - Sunday: Certify (I do it right at midnight when it opens) - Monday: UI Online shows "Paid" by late morning - Tuesday: Money in Chase account by 8am The midnight certification really does make a difference - I've compared it to certifying later in the day and you gain several hours in processing time. Since you're cutting it close, definitely set that alarm! Your first payment will likely take an extra day compared to future ones due to verification, but with direct deposit already set up correctly (which you confirmed), you should still make Tuesday timing. Pro tip: Chase's mobile app will show pending deposits before they're available, so check Monday night if you don't see it post yet. And since you already talked to your landlord, you're covered if there's any delay. The first certification is always stressful, but based on everyone's experiences here, Chase is pretty reliable for EDD deposits. You should be good to go!

0 coins

This is so helpful! I'm really glad I asked about this - getting all these real experiences from Chase users has been invaluable. It sounds like the midnight certification strategy is definitely worth trying, and knowing that Chase typically deposits by 8am Tuesday morning gives me a lot more confidence about making my rent on time. I've got my alarm set and all the mobile notifications configured. Thanks for confirming that the first payment verification delay shouldn't push me past Tuesday - that was my biggest worry! It's amazing how much less stressful this feels now that I understand the typical timeline. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences!

I've been on UI for about 4 months and wanted to chime in with my Chase experience since you're in the same situation! My timeline has been super reliable: - Sunday: Certify around 1am (I stay up for it now) - Monday: UI Online shows "Paid" by noon usually - Tuesday: Money hits Chase account between 6-8am The first payment did take about 4 days instead of 2-3 because of their verification process, but since then it's been clockwork. Chase is honestly one of the better banks for EDD - much faster than what my friends with other banks experience. For your rent deadline, you should be totally fine if you certify early today. That midnight timing everyone's mentioning really does help - I've tested it myself. Also make sure to check the Chase mobile app Monday night for pending deposits, sometimes you can see it coming even before it officially posts. Since you already reached out to your landlord, you're covered either way. But based on all the Chase experiences shared here, Tuesday morning deposit seems pretty much guaranteed if you certify early today. The first certification stress is so real, but you're set up well with direct deposit already configured correctly!

0 coins

This is exactly what I needed to hear! Having so many Chase users confirm the same timeline pattern gives me a lot of confidence. I'm definitely staying up until midnight to certify right when it opens - sounds like that early timing really can make a 6-12 hour difference which could be crucial for making Tuesday rent. Already downloaded the Chase app and set up all the notifications everyone recommended. It's so reassuring to know that even with the first payment verification taking an extra day or two, I should still be within the Tuesday window if I certify early today. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience and confirm what others have said about Chase being reliable for EDD deposits. This thread has been a lifesaver for my anxiety about the timing!
