EDD claims certified since May but no payments - mortgage due with huge late fee
I'm at my wits' end with this payment issue! My husband and I have been certifying for unemployment consistently since May 14th, but we haven't received ANY payments for the last 6 weeks. The EDD website keeps saying all our weeks have been 'successfully certified' - yet nothing is hitting our bank account. Finally got through to an EDD rep yesterday after trying for 3 days straight. They gave me the most ridiculous explanation - apparently there's some 'glitch' in the system where it shows we certified but didn't actually process them?? They said they're going to mail us paper certification forms because the online system isn't working for our account. This makes ZERO sense since we've been certifying without issues for months! Now I'm facing a $275 late fee on our mortgage due on the 15th, and I'm completely stressed out. Has anyone else dealt with this 'phantom certification' problem where EDD says you certified but doesn't pay you?

Unfortunately this is happening to a lot of people right now. They're having serious backend processing issues after their system update in June. It's called a 'false certification status' where the system marks weeks as certified but they never actually get processed into the payment queue. When you call, request to speak specifically with a Tier 2 specialist who can manually push your certifications through - regular agents don't have that access. Also, immediately submit a formal request for back payment through your UI Online account under 'Contact EDD' and select 'Where is my payment?' as the reason. This creates a paper trail. The mailed forms are just their standard response, but honestly those can take 3-4 weeks to process once you send them back.

•Thank you so much for this info! I had no idea there was a system update causing issues. The rep I spoke with definitely wasn't a Tier 2 specialist - she seemed pretty clueless about the whole situation. I'll try calling again tomorrow and specifically ask for a Tier 2. Do you know if there's a special prompt or something to reach them faster? This is getting desperate with the mortgage due date approaching.

•They didn't explain anything! Just said 'sometimes the system has issues' and that mailing in paper forms would fix it. I'm not convinced at all. I'm sorry you're in the same boat - it's so stressful when bills are due and EDD is just sitting on our money that we're entitled to!

I went through this nightmare back in February. The online system showed all my weeks certified but no payments for almost 2 months! What actually fixed it was using Claimyr to get through to a tier 2 specialist (regular reps couldn't help). The service connected me to EDD in about 15 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. The specialist manually pushed through all my pending payments and they hit my account within 48 hours. Website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - definitely worth it when you're facing late fees and need to get it resolved ASAP.

What specific type of UI claim do you have? Regular UI or a PUA extension? This makes a difference in how your certification issues are handled. Also, when you log into UI Online, does it show your certifications as 'Paid' but with $0, or does it show 'Pending'? There's a big difference between these statuses technically. For mortgage issues, you should immediately contact your mortgage servicer and request a hardship forbearance due to unemployment payment delays - most are required to offer this option without late fees if you do it BEFORE the payment due date. Keep detailed records of all EDD communications including rep names, ID numbers, and call reference numbers.

•We're on regular UI, both of us lost our jobs when the company downsized. In UI Online, it shows 'Certified' for the weeks but not 'Paid' - there's no payment amount listed at all for the last 6 weeks, which is weird because before that everything worked fine. Thanks for the advice about the mortgage - I'll call them tomorrow and see if they can help with a forbearance. I've been keeping notes of everyone I've talked to but no one seems able to actually fix the problem!

THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!!! It's because their stupid system update in June messed everything up!! Paper forms are USELESS - they just say that to get you off the phone. I waited 3 weeks for mine and they never came!!! You need to talk to a tier 2 specialist and have them manually release the payments. Regular phone agents CAN'T DO ANYTHING to help with this specific problem!!!

•This is so frustrating! Did you eventually get your payments? I'm worried they're going to keep giving me the runaround until we're completely broke.

•Yes but ONLY after I got to a tier 2 specialist who fixed it on the spot. Regular agents kept promising callbacks that never happened. When I finally reached a specialist, she said my account had a 'certification processing flag' that was preventing payment even though it showed as certified. Took her literally 2 minutes to fix once I actually reached someone with proper access!!!

I think there might be a misunderstanding here. When you certify for weeks, there are actually three statuses: 'Certified' (which just means you submitted it), 'Processed' (which means EDD reviewed it), and 'Paid' (which means money is being sent). It sounds like you're stuck at the first stage. This happens when there's an eligibility issue that needs review but the system doesn't properly flag it. Have you checked under 'Notifications' in your UI Online account? Sometimes they put messages there about issues without actually sending you an email or text alert. Also, ask specifically about any 'pending determination' on your account.

•Thanks for explaining that! I had no idea there were three different statuses. I just checked Notifications and there's nothing there. The weird part is both my husband and I are having the exact same issue starting the same week, which makes me think it's a system problem rather than an eligibility issue. I'll definitely ask about a pending determination next time I call though - that might be the key!

just went thru this!! call the 2511 number not the 5616 one. 5616 reps r useless for this problem. and call exactly at 8:02am not 8:00 (everyone calls at 8 sharp). ask SPECIFICALLY for tier 2 or claim specialist. dont waste time with regular reps. took me 3 weeks to figure this out but finally got paid last friday after the specialist fixed it. good luck!!

Just to follow up on this thread - the system update issue affecting certifications is specifically related to how the EDD database processes consecutive certifications. Some accounts are getting caught in what they call a 'certification loop' where the UI Online interface shows successful submission but the backend payment processing system never receives the data. The only permanent fix is getting a tier 2 specialist to manually break the loop and reprocess your certifications. For your mortgage issue, definitely request the hardship forbearance as suggested above, but also get documentation from EDD about the system issue to support your claim. A Tier 2 specialist can provide an official notice of payment delay that most mortgage companies will accept.

•Thank you SO much for this detailed explanation! This makes perfect sense and explains exactly what we're experiencing. I'm going to try calling again tomorrow morning using the 2511 number at 8:02am as someone suggested. Fingers crossed I can get through to a Tier 2 specialist who can fix this 'certification loop' issue. I'll definitely ask for documentation of the delay for our mortgage company too. I really appreciate everyone's help!
