EDD claims $4k overpayment on PFL, wasn't even working. Taxes held. Help!
I'm in a tough spot with EDD Paid Family Leave. They say I was overpaid by $4000, but I wasn't even working - I was on paternity leave! Now my taxes are being held. Has anyone dealt with this before? What should I do when I finally get through to them on the phone?

Ugh, that sucks man. EDD is such a mess rn. I had a similar issue with unemployment last year. Here's what I did: 1. Gather all your docs - paystubs, leave approval, anything that proves you were on leave 2. Write down a clear timeline of events 3. When you call, stay calm (I know it's hard) and explain everything clearly 4. Ask for a supervisor if the first person can't help 5. Get EVERYTHING in writing Good luck, hope you get it sorted!

•For me, they wanted my last paystub before leave, the official leave approval from my work, and bank statements showing the payments. Better to have too much than not enough!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Oof, I feel ya. EDD's been a nightmare since covid. Make sure you keep ALL your paperwork. And I mean EVERYTHING. You never know what they'll ask for.
