PFL Benefits: Received employer payment while on leave. How to report to EDD?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I received payment from my employer while I was on Paid Family Leave Benefits. I want to make sure I report this correctly so I don't end up being overpaid. Has anyone dealt with this before? I got some notice from EDD, but it's not about this specific situation. Any advice on how to handle this?

Oof, that's a tricky situation. Have you tried calling EDD directly? They should be able to guide you on how to report the extra income.

•Lol good luck with that. EDD's phone lines are a joke. You'd have better luck finding bigfoot 🤣

•True that. EDD's phone system is the 9th circle of hell 🔥

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

I've been in the same boat, my friend. Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Keep records of your PFL benefits and the payment from your employer. 2. Contact your employer and ask them to provide a written statement about the payment. 3. Report the income to EDD as soon as possible. You can do this online through your EDD account. 4. Be prepared for a possible overpayment notice. Don't panic if you get one, you can appeal it. 5. If you can't reach EDD by phone, try sending a secure message through your online account. Remember, honesty is the best policy here. It's better to report it now than to have them discover it later.

•I haven't heard anything about that. Do you know where I could find info on these updates?

•Try checking the EDD website or their social media. They usually post updates there. If not, maybe try asking in the r/California subreddit?

Pro tip: keep ALL your paperwork. I mean everything. EDD made a mistake on my claim once and having all my docs saved my butt.

Hey OP, how long have you been on PFL? And is the payment from your employer for work you did before or during your leave?

Plot twist: what if you donate the extra money to charity? 🤔 Then technically you didn't benefit from it, right? (I'm joking, don't actually do this without consulting a professional

Anyone else feel like we need a complete overhaul of the whole benefits system? It's 2023 and we're still dealing with these archaic processes smh

•For real. My grandma could design a better system, and she still uses a flip phone 😂
