EDD Money Network card suddenly giving transaction errors at ATM - can't access my funds

Has anyone else had issues with their EDD Money Network card suddenly not working? I was able to withdraw cash from my card at an ATM 3 days ago with no problem, but today I tried to take out money and just got 'transaction error' on the screen. No explanation, nothing. So I tried to do a one-time transfer through the Money Network mobile app, and now the app says it 'can't locate my card'??? My benefits payment posted this week and the money is definitely in my account according to the balance - I just can't access it! I've got rent due in 2 days and I'm seriously freaking out. What could have happened between Monday and today that would make my card stop working completely?

This happened to me last month. Three things you should check immediately: 1. Call the number on the back of your card to make sure it hasn't been locked for suspicious activity. Sometimes they'll freeze it if you use it at a new ATM location they don't recognize. 2. Check if you've hit your daily withdrawal limit. There's a $1000 daily ATM limit with these cards. 3. Try using it as a debit card at a grocery store for a small purchase to see if the card is working at all or if it's just the ATM function. FYI - if you can't get it resolved by calling the Money Network number, you might need to speak with EDD directly since they're the ones who authorize the funds.

Thanks for the suggestions! I just tried calling the Money Network number but got stuck in their automated system for 15 minutes and then it hung up on me. I'm going to try your suggestion about using it for a small purchase somewhere to see if it's just the ATM function. I'll update after I try that.

If your Money Network card isn't working for withdrawals AND the app can't locate your card, it might be deactivated. This can happen if: - Your card expired (they're good for 3 years) - There was suspected fraud - EDD requested a freeze - Your personal info changed Call Money Network at 1-866-323-2311 and speak to a live person. You'll need to press specific options to bypass the automated system - usually something like 0 or # repeatedly can get you to a representative. If you truly can't reach them, you might need to contact EDD directly to find out what's happening with your benefits payment method.

The card definitely shouldn't be expired - I just got it 6 months ago. But suspected fraud makes sense...I did use it at a gas station I've never been to before on Monday. I'll try the trick to get past the automated system. Really hope I can get this fixed without having to reach EDD because that seems impossible!

I went thru THE EXACT SAME ISSUE last week!!! tried to get $$ at 7-11 ATM and got error, then app said card not found. Turns out my card was FROZEN bc someone tried to use my card # online!!! I never knew until I finally got through to Money Network. They unfroze it after verifying my identity. Took like 4 hrs to reach a human tho, their phone system is the WORST.

have you checked ur actual edd account online? sometimes they switch ur payment method back to paper check without tellin u. happend to me last year. i was wasting time with money network when edd had already mailed me a check instead.

I just checked my UI Online account and it still shows active Money Network card as my payment method. So that's definitely not it in my case. I'm still trying to get through to a human at Money Network with no luck...

I had to reach an EDD representative to fix a similar issue with my Money Network card last month. After trying for days, I eventually used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an EDD rep within 20 minutes when I had been trying for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The EDD rep was able to see exactly what was happening with my card and directed me to the right department at Money Network to fix it. Apparently there are different support teams at Money Network depending on what the issue is, and only EDD knew which one I needed.

Is that service legit? I've seen people mention it before but was worried about giving my info to a third party.

Yes, totally legit. They don't need any personal information about your claim - they just help you get through to EDD. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for days.

UPDATE: I finally got through to Money Network after trying that tip about pressing 0 multiple times. Just like @system_critic mentioned, my card was frozen due to suspected fraud! Apparently using my card at that new gas station triggered their fraud alert system. They verified my identity and unfroze the card immediately. So for anyone else who runs into this issue - keep trying to reach a human at Money Network. Once I got someone on the line, it only took 5 minutes to fix!

Great news! Glad you got it resolved before your rent was due. This is really important info for others to know about - I wish Money Network would send text alerts when they freeze cards instead of leaving people stranded with no access to their money.

My entire family lost access to our bank accounts last month because a pipe burst in our bathroom and flooded the house and we had to go stay with my sister in Ohio and Wells Fargo thought someone stole our identity because we were suddenly making purchases in a different state and it took 9 days to get it all sorted out which was a complete nightmare because we were dealing with insurance and contractors for the flood damage at the same time so I totally understand your frustration with these automatic fraud systems!

what does this have to do with EDD cards?

For future reference for anyone reading this thread: It's a good idea to set up direct deposit for your EDD benefits instead of using the Money Network card if possible. Here's how: 1. Log in to UI Online 2. Go to "Profile" 3. Select "Payment Method" 4. Choose "Direct Deposit" 5. Enter your bank information It typically takes 1-2 payment cycles to switch over, but then you avoid all these Money Network card issues entirely. Just make sure you empty your card before switching!

I'm definitely going to do this now! This whole experience was way too stressful. Thanks for the instructions!

I'm glad you got this resolved! This thread is really helpful - I had no idea that using your EDD card at a new location could trigger a fraud freeze. It's frustrating that Money Network doesn't send any kind of notification when this happens. I've been using my card at the same ATM for months but was planning to travel next week for a job interview. Now I know to call them ahead of time to let them know I'll be using it in a different city. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

That's a really smart idea about calling ahead when traveling! I wish I had known about that before my card got frozen. It's crazy that they don't give you any warning - just suddenly your card stops working and you're left scrambling to figure out what happened. Definitely going to remember this tip for the future. Good luck with your job interview!

This is such valuable information! I've been dealing with random "card declined" messages at different stores over the past few weeks and never thought it could be fraud alerts. I always assumed it was just the store's card reader having issues. After reading this thread, I'm wondering if my card has been getting temporarily frozen and unfrozen without me realizing it. I'm going to call Money Network tomorrow to ask about my account activity and see if there have been any fraud alerts. Thanks @GalacticGuardian for posting about this - you probably saved a lot of people from similar panic situations!

@Austin Leonard That s'exactly what might be happening! I had those random declines for weeks before my card completely stopped working. It s'so annoying that Money Network doesn t'send alerts when they do these temporary freezes. When you call them, ask specifically about fraud "alerts on" your account - they might not volunteer that information unless you ask directly. Also, if you ve'been shopping at different stores than usual, that could definitely trigger their system. Hope you get some answers!

This is exactly why I always keep the Money Network customer service number saved in my phone now! I learned the hard way after my card got frozen during a grocery shopping trip and I had no way to pay. One tip that worked for me when calling their support line - if you get stuck in the automated system, try saying "representative" or "agent" repeatedly instead of just pressing 0. Sometimes their voice recognition will transfer you faster than the number options. Also, if anyone is still having trouble reaching them, try calling early in the morning (like 7-8 AM) - the wait times are usually much shorter then.

That's a great tip about calling early in the morning! I wish I had known that when I was stuck in their phone system for hours. The "representative" voice command trick is really smart too - I only knew about pressing 0 repeatedly. I'm definitely saving their number in my phone now after going through this whole ordeal. It's scary how quickly you can lose access to your benefits money without any warning. Thanks for sharing these practical tips that actually work!
