EDD Money Network card activated but won't work at ATM - balance shows on phone but not at machine
I just received my new EDD Money Network card yesterday and activated it over the phone without any issues. When I tried to use it at the ATM this morning, I couldn't withdraw any cash, and the ATM wouldn't even display my balance. I called the customer service number on the back of the card to check my balance, and it shows I have $3,875 available (my backpay finally came through!). But when I try to access the Money Network mobile app, it keeps crashing on my phone. I also tried to log in through the website and it says my account can't be found. Has anyone else experienced these issues with their new EDD debit card? How did you fix it? I really need access to these funds ASAP as my rent is due next week.

This happened to me too! The Money Network cards have a lot of security features that sometimes cause delays after activation. Here's what worked for me: 1. Wait 24 hours after phone activation before trying ATM withdrawals 2. Make sure you created a unique PIN (not 1234 or your birth year) 3. Try a Bank of America ATM specifically - they seem to work better with these cards 4. For the app issues, delete and reinstall the Money Network app 5. For the website, try clearing your browser cookies or using incognito mode If none of that works, you'll need to call Money Network directly at the number on the back of your card. Sometimes they need to manually activate certain functions on your card.

•Thanks for the suggestions! I did use a random PIN and I tried Bank of America first since I know they're the official EDD bank partner. I'll try waiting until tomorrow and reinstalling the app. Did you have to do anything special to get your online account to work?

•Good to know about 7-11 ATMs! I'll give that a try tomorrow. Do you know if there's a daily withdrawal limit? I need to take out enough for rent.

I HATE these stupid Money Network cards!!!! EDD switched from Bank of America last year and everything's been a NIGHTMARE since then. My card wouldn't work for a WEEK after activation! When I called customer service they just kept transferring me around in circles. No help whatsoever!!! And then when it finally did work, there's a $1,000 daily withdrawal limit which is USELESS if you're trying to pay rent in California. The website is always "down for maintenance" whenever I need it most. My advice - transfer all your money to your regular bank account as soon as you get access. Don't leave it on that garbage card.

•The daily ATM withdrawal limit is $1,000, but you can do a teller withdrawal at any bank that accepts Visa for up to $4,000 per day. You just need to know your PIN and have your ID with you. I agree about transferring to your bank account though - it's much more reliable.

Have you tried calling EDD directly? Sometimes they need to verify something on their end before the funds are fully released to your card. I had a similar issue and it turned out there was a hold on my account due to a verification problem.

•I've been trying to call EDD for 2 days but just get the 'too many callers' message and then it hangs up. Super frustrating since the money is technically there but I can't access it!

If you need to reach EDD quickly, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. I was in a similar situation with my Money Network card not working properly and couldn't get through to anyone at EDD. Claimyr connected me with an EDD agent within 25 minutes when I had been trying for days on my own. They have a video demo of how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km and their website is claimyr.com. The agent was able to remove a hold on my account that was preventing full access to my card. Definitely worth it when you're in a time-sensitive situation like needing to pay rent.

•These service things are just another way to make money off desperate people who can't get through to EDD! The whole system is BROKEN if we have to PAY just to talk to someone about OUR MONEY!!!

•I understand your frustration with the system. I was skeptical too but honestly was desperate after trying for a week straight. Up to you if you want to keep trying on your own, but for me it saved hours of redial frustration.

•Hmm, I did move last month but I updated my address with EDD right away. I wonder if that could be the issue. I'll try my old zip code when I attempt again. Thanks for the tip!

Just checking back - were you able to resolve this? I remembered another important detail - sometimes these cards get sent with a temporary freeze for security reasons. If you call the Money Network number and specifically ask if there's a security freeze, they might be able to remove it immediately.

•Yes! Thank you everyone for your help. It turned out to be two issues: 1) I needed to wait the full 24 hours after activation before using the ATM, and 2) There was actually a security hold because my ZIP code didn't match (I had updated my address with EDD but Money Network had my old one). I called the number on the back of the card, got that fixed, and now everything works fine! I was able to withdraw enough for rent yesterday at a 7-11 ATM with no fees. The app is still glitchy but I can access the website now. Thanks again!

I'm so glad you got it sorted out! The ZIP code mismatch issue is actually pretty common when people update their address with EDD but forget that Money Network maintains a separate record. For anyone else reading this thread who might have similar issues, here are the key takeaways: 1. Always wait 24 hours after phone activation before attempting ATM use 2. Double-check that your ZIP code matches what's on file with Money Network (not necessarily what's updated with EDD) 3. 7-11 ATMs are fee-free for Money Network cards 4. If you're still having issues, call the number on the back of the card and specifically ask about security holds 5. Daily ATM limit is $1,000 but you can do teller withdrawals up to $4,000 with ID and PIN Thanks for updating us with the resolution - this will definitely help other people who run into the same problem!

•This is such a helpful summary! I'm new to this community and just got my first EDD Money Network card last week. I was worried I was doing something wrong when it didn't work right away. The ZIP code thing especially makes sense - I bet a lot of people don't realize that EDD and Money Network have separate systems. Bookmarking this thread for future reference. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

Welcome to the community! I'm glad this thread was helpful for you. The Money Network card system can definitely be confusing at first, especially coming from the old Bank of America EDD cards. A few additional tips that might help you and other newcomers: - Keep the customer service number (on the back of your card) saved in your phone - you'll probably need it at some point - If you plan to transfer money to your regular bank account, you can do it through the Money Network website once you get logged in (usually takes 1-2 business days) - Some grocery stores like Walmart and Target also have fee-free ATMs for Money Network cards if 7-11 isn't convenient - The mobile app really is pretty unreliable, so don't stress too much if it doesn't work - the website and phone customer service are your best bets Hope your first experience with the card goes smoothly! Feel free to ask if you run into any issues.

•Thanks for the warm welcome and all the extra tips! I had no idea about the Walmart and Target ATMs being fee-free too - that's really good to know since there's a Target right by my apartment. I'm definitely going to save that customer service number right now. It's reassuring to hear that other people have had similar experiences with the card activation process. This community seems really helpful for navigating all the EDD stuff that can be so confusing. I'll make sure to pay it forward if I learn anything useful along the way!

Just want to add one more tip that saved me a lot of headaches - if you're planning to use your Money Network card for online purchases or bill payments, make sure to register it for online transactions first. I tried to pay my utility bill online right after activation and it got declined even though I had funds available. Turns out there's a separate activation step for online/phone purchases that you have to do either through the website or by calling customer service. They'll ask you to verify some personal info and then online transactions will work within a few hours. Learned this the hard way when my internet almost got shut off!

•Oh wow, that's a really important tip about online transactions! I almost made that same mistake - I was planning to pay my rent online with the card once I got it working. Good thing I saw your comment first. It's crazy how many separate activation steps these cards have. Did you have to provide any specific documentation when you called to activate online purchases, or was it just the usual verification questions like SSN and address? I want to make sure I have everything ready when I call so I don't have to call back multiple times.

•@b92fc0aa5e6d Just the usual verification questions - they asked for my full name, last 4 of SSN, ZIP code on file, and my card number. The whole process took maybe 5 minutes once I got through to someone. No additional documentation needed! They said it can take up to 24 hours for online purchases to be fully activated, but mine was working within about 3 hours. Definitely worth doing right away if you plan to pay bills online - saves you from the panic I went through thinking my card was broken when it was just that one restriction!

This is such a comprehensive thread! As someone who just joined this community after struggling with my own EDD card issues, I really appreciate how everyone shares practical solutions here. I wanted to add one more thing that might help others - if you're having trouble reaching Money Network customer service during business hours (they can get pretty backed up), I've found that calling early in the morning (around 7-8 AM PST) or later in the evening (after 6 PM) tends to have shorter wait times. Also, if you're switching from direct deposit to the debit card or vice versa, make sure to allow extra processing time - my first payment after switching took about 5 business days longer than usual to show up. The EDD website doesn't always make this clear, so I thought it was worth mentioning!

•That's a great tip about the call timing! I've definitely experienced those long hold times during peak hours. The 5-day delay when switching payment methods is something I wish I had known earlier - I was freaking out thinking my payment got lost when I switched from direct deposit to the card last month. For anyone reading this who might be new to the system, it's also worth noting that if you switch back and forth between payment methods too frequently, EDD might put a temporary hold on your account for verification. I learned this from a customer service rep who mentioned that switching more than twice in a 30-day period can trigger additional security checks. Thanks for sharing your experience with the call timing - I'll definitely try those off-peak hours next time I need to reach them!

This thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now - got my Money Network card 3 days ago, activated it, but I'm getting "insufficient funds" errors at ATMs even though I can hear the automated balance when I call. Based on everything shared here, it sounds like I should try using my old ZIP code (I moved 2 months ago and updated my address with EDD but probably not with Money Network) and maybe wait another day since it's only been 72 hours. One question for the group - has anyone had success getting Money Network to update your address over the phone, or do you have to do it through the website? The website login is giving me issues similar to what the original poster experienced. I'd rather get the ZIP code sorted out properly than keep using my old one long-term. Thanks everyone for sharing such detailed experiences - this is exactly the kind of real-world advice you can't find in the official documentation!

•@96778176a417 You can definitely update your address over the phone with Money Network! I had to do this when I moved last year. When you call the customer service number on the back of your card, just tell them you need to update your address information. They'll verify your identity with the usual questions (name, SSN, current address on file) and can update it right away. The change is usually effective immediately for ATM transactions. However, I'd recommend trying your old ZIP code first at the ATM since you're already dealing with the card not working - that might solve your immediate problem. Then you can call to update your address properly for future use. Also, since it's been 72 hours, you should be well past the 24-hour activation window, so the ZIP code mismatch is probably the culprit. One heads up - when they update your address over the phone, sometimes it takes a few hours for the change to fully sync across all their systems, so don't panic if it doesn't work immediately. The phone reps are usually pretty helpful with address changes compared to some of the other issues people have with Money Network. Good luck!

I just want to say how amazing this community is! I'm new here and was dealing with my own Money Network card issues when I found this thread. Reading through everyone's experiences and solutions has been incredibly reassuring - it's clear that most of these card problems are temporary and solvable, even though they're super stressful when you're dealing with them. For anyone else who might be new to the EDD Money Network system like I am, here's a quick checklist based on what I've learned from this thread: 1. Wait 24+ hours after phone activation before trying ATM withdrawals 2. Use the ZIP code that's on file with Money Network (might be different from your EDD address) 3. Try fee-free ATMs at 7-11, Walmart, or Target 4. Call Money Network customer service early morning or evening for shorter wait times 5. Ask specifically about security holds if your card isn't working 6. Activate online transactions separately if you plan to pay bills online 7. Consider transferring funds to your regular bank account for easier access Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - you've saved so many people time and stress! This is exactly the kind of peer support that makes navigating these systems so much easier.

•This checklist is fantastic! As someone who just went through the whole Money Network card activation process last week, I can confirm that following these steps would have saved me so much frustration. I especially wish I had known about the separate online transaction activation - I spent two days thinking my card was defective when I couldn't use it to pay my phone bill online. The ZIP code issue is also super common from what I'm seeing. It's really unfortunate that EDD and Money Network don't sync their address information automatically, but at least now I know to check both systems when I move. Thanks for putting together such a clear summary - I'm definitely bookmarking this thread to reference if I run into any issues in the future!

•@24546eae2e48 This checklist is a lifesaver! I just got my Money Network card yesterday and was feeling pretty overwhelmed after reading about all the potential issues online. Having this step-by-step guide makes the whole process seem much more manageable. I'm definitely going to wait the full 24 hours before trying any ATM withdrawals and make sure I have the right ZIP code ready. It's really reassuring to see how many people have successfully resolved their card issues by following these steps. One quick question - do you know if there's any difference between calling Money Network during weekdays vs weekends for customer service? I'm planning to call tomorrow (Saturday) to verify my address information is correct before I try using the card on Monday.
