EDD Money Network card activation nightmare - website works but app doesn't
Has anyone else had major headaches trying to get their new EDD Money Network card set up? Just got mine delivered 3 days ago and it's been nothing but frustration! I tried scanning the QR code on the letter to download the app, but after downloading, the app keeps giving me 'unable to connect' errors when I try to create an account. After 5-6 attempts and restarting my phone, I finally gave up and called the activation number on the back of the card. The phone system let me activate the card fine, but I STILL couldn't create an account on the app. Finally figured out I needed to go directly to the website instead (moneynetwork.com/edd) on my laptop, and that actually worked! But get this - even though my account exists now, the app STILL won't let me log in! Just keeps saying 'authentication failed' or sometimes crashes completely. Do I seriously have to use the website every time I want to check my balance or transfers? The whole point of having an app is convenience! Anyone find a fix for this or should I just give up on the app entirely?

•Ugh, that's so frustrating! Have you just been using the website since then? I was hoping maybe there was an app update or something that fixed it.

The Money Network app is notoriously buggy. I've been using the EDD debit card system for nearly two years, and I've found the best approach is to use the website for account setup and management. Once your account is fully established on the website, try deleting the app completely, restart your phone, then reinstall the app from scratch. Don't use the QR code - go directly to your app store. About 70% of the time, this resolves the authentication issues. Also important: make sure your password doesn't contain special characters - the app often rejects those even though the website accepts them. And verify that your email address is correctly entered on the website profile before attempting app login again.

•Thank you for such detailed advice! I'll try deleting the app and reinstalling from the App Store directly. My password does have special characters so maybe that's the issue. I'll change it on the website first and then try the app again.

I had the EXACT same problem!!! So infuriating! What worked for me was clearing my phone's cache (go to Settings > Apps > Money Network > Storage > Clear Cache), then signing out of the app completely, restarting my phone, and trying again. Oh, and make sure your phone's operating system is updated too. If that doesn't work, I eventually discovered you can just set up direct deposit from the Money Network to your regular bank account. That's what I did after two weeks of app headaches. Just need your routing and account numbers. The transfer takes 2-3 business days but at least you don't have to deal with their terrible app!

•I tried clearing the cache and it still didn't work! 😫 The direct deposit option sounds like the way to go at this point. At least then I can just use my regular banking app which actually works. Thanks for the suggestion!

•The switch from Bank of America to Money Network was actually due to a lot of fraud issues with the previous system. Money Network has better security features, but they definitely didn't put enough resources into making their app reliable. Most of these technical issues should improve over time as they respond to customer feedback.

Try calling EDD directly about it. I got so frustrated with these exact issues I spent 3 hours trying to reach someone at EDD to complain. Kept getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message and disconnects over and over. Then I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual EDD rep in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The EDD rep I talked to said they're aware of the Money Network app issues and recommended either using the website exclusively or setting up direct deposit to your regular bank. They also said to document any fees you incur if you need emergency access to your funds due to app/card issues, as you might be able to get them reimbursed.

•Thanks for the Claimyr tip! I might need to use that if my direct deposit setup has issues. It's good to know EDD is at least aware of the problems, though it doesn't seem like they're fixing them anytime soon.

I had issues too but weirdly my app started working after about a week. I think sometimes there's a delay between when the card is activated and when the app fully recognizes your account. Did you try waiting a couple days and trying again? Sometimes these systems need time to sync up properly.

•It's been 3 days since I activated the card, so maybe I just need to give it more time to sync? I'll try again after the weekend and see if it magically starts working. Thanks for giving me a little hope!

•Just a word of caution about that approach - you're limited to certain ATM withdrawal amounts per day (usually $1000), and some ATMs charge fees if they're not in the Money Network's fee-free network. You get two free ATM withdrawals per deposit period, then they charge $1.25 per withdrawal after that. Always better to transfer to your bank account to avoid fees.

Update on my earlier comment - I just saw that Money Network released an app update yesterday that supposedly fixes the login issues! Maybe try updating the app if you haven't already?
