EDD Money Network Card transfer delays to external bank accounts - anyone know the timeline?
I finally got my benefits approved after that whole eligibility interview nightmare, and my funds were loaded onto the EDD Money Network card. I initiated a transfer to my credit union account yesterday morning and it still hasn't shown up. The Money Network portal says 'transfer in progress' but doesn't give any timeline estimate. Does anyone know how long these transfers typically take? The card customer service had me on hold for 40 minutes before I gave up. I have rent due in 3 days and I'm starting to worry. Is it usually 24 hours? 3 business days? A week? Any experiences would be really helpful!

•Thanks! Hoping my credit union processes it quickly then. Just nervous since I've never done this transfer before.

It typically takes 2-3 business days for a Money Network transfer to reach an external bank account. However, this can vary depending on a few factors: 1. Whether it's a first-time transfer (these can take longer) 2. The receiving bank's processing times 3. Whether you initiated the transfer before or after the daily cutoff time (usually around 3 PM) 4. If you transferred on a Friday, it likely won't process until Monday or Tuesday If your rent is due in 3 days, you might want to consider using the card directly if possible, or withdrawing cash at an in-network ATM. The ATM withdrawal daily limit is $1,025.

•Exactly what he said ^^ First transfers always take longest. After you do it a few times it gets faster.

When I transfered money from my card to Wells Fargo it took A WEEK AND A HALF!!!! Card said "in progress" the whole time & I had bills due. Called card services 4 times and nobody could tell me anything. Money just magically appeared in my account 11 days later. EDD NEEDS TO FIX THIS SYSTEM. What's the point of having benefits if you cant even access the $$$?

•A week and a half?! That's insane! I definitely can't wait that long. Might need to look at the ATM option mentioned above.

I've been using the Money Network card with my unemployment benefits for almost a year now, and here's what I've experienced with transfers: - First transfer to a new bank account: 3-5 business days - Subsequent transfers: Usually 2-3 business days - Transfers to major banks (Chase, BofA): Sometimes faster (1-2 days) - Transfers to credit unions: Often take the full 3 business days If you need the money faster, I recommend either: 1. Using the card directly for purchases 2. Withdrawing from an in-network ATM (Bank of America ATMs are free) 3. Requesting a cash advance at a bank branch that accepts Visa (though they may charge a fee) Make sure you've verified your email and phone number with Money Network as this can sometimes delay transfers.

•This is super helpful, thank you! Mine is a credit union so it sounds like I should prepare for the full 3 days. I'll probably do the ATM withdrawal instead since rent is due soon. Really appreciate the detailed breakdown!

I had the EXACT same problem last month trying to reach someone at the Money Network card services. Spent hours on hold and never got through. I was trying to understand why my transfer was stuck "in progress" for 4 days. I ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to connect with an EDD agent who then transferred me to the card department. Got through in about 20 minutes instead of endless hold times. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The card rep explained that first-time transfers have additional security verification that can add 1-2 days. Subsequent transfers are faster. Good luck!

•is this service legit? seems sketchy that you have to pay to talk to EDD...

•It's completely legit - they just help you bypass the phone queue. I was desperate after 3 days of failed calls. The EDD agent was super helpful once I got through and confirmed my transfer was still processing normally.

your probably not gonna get it in time for rent tbh... my roommate does direct deposit and it's way faster, u should set that up for next time

•Actually, direct deposit to a bank account is different from the Money Network card transfer process the OP is asking about. Direct deposit is when EDD sends your benefits directly to your bank (which is faster), while OP already has funds on their EDD debit card and is trying to move them to their bank.

Ok I need to VENT about this stupid card system! WHY can't EDD just do direct deposits for everyone?? Every other state seems to handle unemployment without these ridiculous debit cards. My sister in Oregon gets her benefits direct deposited in 24 hours!!!

•California EDD actually does offer direct deposit now, but you have to specifically request it during your initial claim setup. If you already have the card, you can still switch to direct deposit for future payments by updating your payment preference in UI Online under "Payment Methods."

UPDATE: The money finally hit my account this morning! So that was about 2.5 business days total. Thanks everyone for your help and advice. For anyone else reading this in the future, I'd recommend initiating transfers well before you need the money, or using the ATM option if you're in a time crunch.
