EDD: Accidentally scheduled unemployment call instead of SDI. Can I switch?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I accidentally scheduled a call with unemployment instead of SDI EDD. Does anyone know if it's possible to switch it? I really need to talk to SDI and I'm worried I might miss my chance if I can't change it. Any advice would be super helpful!

Okay, let me break this down for you and everyone else dealing with EDD appointment issues: 1. Unfortunately, you can't directly switch appointment types once they're scheduled. The system doesn't allow for that kind of flexibility. 2. Your options are: • Cancel the current appointment and reschedule with the correct department • Try calling EDD directly to see if a rep can help (good luck with that) • Attend the unemployment appointment and ask them to transfer you or provide guidance 3. For future reference: • Always double-check which department you're scheduling with • Consider writing down your questions beforehand so you don't forget anything important • Have all your documents ready, even if it's the wrong department - they might be able to help or direct you 4. If you're really struggling to get through: • Try calling right when they open or just before they close • Use the website chat function if available • Consider using a paid service like Claimyr (as mentioned by another user) if you're desperate Remember, the EDD system is overloaded and underfunded. It's frustrating, but try to be patient. Document everything, including who you talk to and when. This can help if you need to escalate issues later. Good luck, OP! Let us know how it goes.

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed response! This is incredibly helpful. I think I'll try calling them directly first, and if that doesn't work, I'll cancel and reschedule. Really appreciate you taking the time to write all this out!

Pro tip: Always double-check which department you're scheduling with. I've made that mistake before and it cost me weeks of waiting. Learn from our mistakes, folks! 🧠💡

Such a great tip! With EDD, being proactive and double-checking everything can save you a lot of hassle later.

Have you considered applying for both unemployment and SDI? Sometimes people qualify for both, depending on their situation. Might be worth looking into while you sort out this appointment mess.

I didn't know that was possible. How does that work?

It's complicated, but basically if you have a disability that prevents you from working your usual job, but you could do other types of work, you might be eligible for both. Check out the EDD website for more details. Its not for everyone, but worth looking into

Just a heads up, applying for both can be a bit complex, and it might take some time to process everything properly.

Plot twist: What if OP shows up to the unemployment appointment and pretends they're there for SDI? 😈 Jk jk... unless? 👀

Claimyr is a useful tool for anyone who is having trouble getting through to EDD. For $20, it offers a unique service that navigates the call menu, stays on the line, and connects the call directly to your phone when a representative is available. While the cost may seem high, many users have found it to be worth the expense due to the time saved. However, it is important to note that Claimyr is not officially affiliated with EDD, which means it cannot guarantee resolution of specific claim issues. Users should use their discretion and weigh the cost versus the potential benefit based on their personal situation. It's also wise to document all interactions you have through the service for future reference.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the URL: https://claimyr.com

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. The $20 was worth it to actually talk to a human 😅

I tried Claimyr too, and it actually worked for me as well. It might not be ideal to pay for something like this, but when you're desperate, it can be a lifesaver.

Ugh, been there done that. Unfortunately, I don't think you can switch it once it's scheduled. You might have to cancel and reschedule with the right department. It's a pain, I know 😫

It's so frustrating that there's no flexibility with these appointments. They should really update the system to make it easier for us!

Nope, sorry OP. The system is pretty rigid. You're probably gonna have to cancel and start over. It sucks, but that's EDD for ya 🤷♂️

Have you tried calling them directly? Sometimes if you get a nice rep, they might be able to help you switch it over the phone.
