Does EDD call from unknown or blocked numbers? Need to verify if I missed them
I've been waiting for EDD to contact me about my eligibility interview for almost 3 weeks now. Today I realized I've been declining calls that show up as "Unknown Caller" or "No Caller ID" on my phone (I usually ignore these because of spam). Now I'm panicking thinking I might have missed my interview call! Does anyone know if EDD calls from unknown/blocked numbers? And if I did miss their call, what happens next? Will they disqualify me automatically or do they try again?

•Oh no! I've probably missed them then. Did you get any email or message in your UI Online account before they called? I haven't seen anything there.

Yes, EDD typically calls from unknown or blocked numbers for eligibility interviews and other claim-related matters. This is standard procedure for them. If you missed their call, they generally make a note in your file and will try to reach you one more time. After two unsuccessful attempts, they make a determination based on the information they already have. You should check your UI Online account under 'Notifications' to see if they left any messages about the missed call. Also check your EDD inbox in the portal for any communication. If you haven't received your interview date yet, you should still get a notification about when it's scheduled.

•Thank you so much! I checked my UI Online and don't see any notifications about missed calls. Maybe they haven't tried to call me yet? The letter I got just said they would call within 2-3 weeks but didn't give a specific date or time.

Contact them ASAP - if you've missed the interview, you need to reschedule it before they make a determination without your input. When they can't reach you after attempts, they typically proceed with the information they have, which often results in a disqualification because they couldn't verify your eligibility details. If your UI Online doesn't show a specific interview date that's passed, you might still be in the waiting period. Their scheduling can extend beyond the initial timeframe they provide, especially during busy periods.

•I've been trying to call them for days but can't get through! Always get the "we're experiencing high call volume" message and then it hangs up. How did you manage to get through when you needed to reschedule?

theres no way to know for sure if u missed them unless u check ur inbox. i missed mine and got a letter in my edd inbox saying they tried to contact me. then they sent a disqualification notice a week later. they dont always try twice, sometimes just once then disqualify u. total bs system!!

•Same happened to me! Didn't even get a second chance call. Just straight to disqualification. I appealed it though and won because I had a legitimate reason for missing the call (was in the hospital).

After missing my phone interview with EDD, I tried for WEEKS to get someone on the phone to reschedule. Impossible with their regular line! I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual EDD agent without waiting all day. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The agent was able to reschedule my interview and even told me they would note in my file to expect my call. Saved me from losing all my benefits.

•Thanks for this tip! I'll check out that service if I don't hear anything in my UI Online account by tomorrow. I can't afford to miss this interview and lose my benefits.

Everyone is giving different answers here. Let me clarify from MY experience: Yes, EDD calls from blocked/unknown numbers. BUT they are required to leave a voicemail if you don't answer. They're also supposed to send a message to your UI Online inbox telling you that they tried to call. Have you checked both places? Also - sometimes they're running behind schedule and don't call within the timeframe they initially gave you. I was told 2-3 weeks but they didn't call until week 4!

•they definitely DONT always leave voicemails! happened to me and 2 of my friends. no voicemail, just disqualification later. depends on the agent who calls u

•This is correct - while EDD policy states they should leave a voicemail, it doesn't always happen in practice. The most reliable indicator is checking your UI Online inbox for notices about attempted contact.

This whole EDD system is RIGGED against claimants!!! They purposely call from unknown numbers knowing most people ignore those calls because of scammers. Then they use that as an excuse to deny benefits. My brother got disqualified for this exact reason and had to appeal. WHAT A JOKE OF A SYSTEM!

•While the system certainly has its flaws, they do typically attempt contact more than once and provide notification through UI Online. Appeals for missed interviews are also often successful if you can demonstrate good cause for missing the call.

Update for the original poster: If you haven't received notification of a missed interview yet, you can proactively update your contact information in your UI Online account. Add alternate phone numbers if you have them, and make a habit of checking your UI Online inbox daily. Also, for the scheduled interview period, change your voicemail message to specifically state your name clearly so the EDD interviewer knows they've reached the right person. This can help if they do call and you miss it.

•Thank you! I've updated my voicemail with my full name and will start answering unknown calls. I'm checking my UI Online account twice daily now. Fingers crossed they haven't tried to call yet!

UPDATE: Just got a notification in my UI Online inbox today that my phone interview is scheduled for next Tuesday at 10:15am! They hadn't tried to call me yet after all. Thanks everyone for the advice - I'll be answering every unknown call that day and making sure my phone is fully charged!

•That's great news! Make sure you have all your documents ready - last employer info, dates of employment, reason for separation, etc. Be somewhere quiet where you can take notes. Good luck!

•Excellent! One more tip: Be prepared 15 minutes before and after your scheduled time, as they sometimes call slightly earlier or later than the exact appointment time. Have a pen and paper ready to note the interviewer's name and any case numbers they provide.
