Can't access Money Network debit card by phone or view EDD account online - locked out!
I'm at my wit's end here! Since yesterday, I've been completely locked out of my Money Network debit card by phone AND my EDD online account. When I call the debit card number, it just keeps asking for my SSN and DOB but then says 'We cannot verify your information at this time' and hangs up. Then I tried logging into UI Online to check my balance there, but it says my password is incorrect (it's NOT - I have it saved). I requested a password reset email but never got one after 3 attempts. I need to pay rent in 4 days and have NO idea how much money is on my card or how to access it. Has anyone else experienced both systems going down at the same time? Is the EDD system having some kind of major outage? I've tried calling the main EDD number but just get the 'we're experiencing high call volume' message after waiting 45 minutes.

•That's exactly what I'm worried about too! Have you been able to reach ANYONE at EDD? I'm starting to panic about identity theft...

There was a system maintenance scheduled for last night that was supposed to end at 2am. Sounds like it might be running longer than expected. The Money Network card system and UI Online are actually separate systems, but they might both be affected by backend updates. I would recommend trying these steps: 1. For the Money Network card: Try calling from a different phone. Sometimes their system has issues with certain carriers. 2. For UI Online: Clear your browser cache completely, then try a different browser entirely. Also, check your spam folder for the reset emails. 3. If you need your balance urgently, try checking at an ATM with your physical card (if you have it). If none of that works by tomorrow morning, you might need to contact EDD directly to verify your identity hasn't been compromised.

•Thank you for these suggestions! I didn't know about any scheduled maintenance. I'll try calling from my partner's phone and clearing my browser. I do have my physical card so I'll try an ATM too, though I'll get hit with a fee. Better than not knowing at all!

•3 DAYS?!? That's insane, I can't wait that long - I have bills due! Did you just keep calling the regular number or is there a special department for account lockouts?

This smells like a system-wide security lockdown to me. EDD has been getting absolutely HAMMERED with fraud attempts lately. A friend who works at the call center (not supposed to tell me this stuff but whatever) said they've been implementing stricter verification measures because of identity theft. And of course they don't TELL anyone when they make these changes! They just lock everything down and make us waste HOURS trying to get through to anyone who can help. I've been on unemployment three times in my life and EVERY TIME it's some new nightmare with their systems. You're probably going to need to talk to a real person to verify your identity again. Good luck with that...

•You got that right. Took me FIVE HOURS on hold last month for a similar issue. By the time I got through, I was practically in tears. The agent actually told me they were having system integration problems between the Money Network database and the main EDD system. But of course, they don't post that information anywhere useful.

I had the same problem a few months ago and was getting desperate after trying for days to reach someone at EDD. I ended up using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an EDD representative in about 25 minutes instead of spending days redialing. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The EDD rep told me that sometimes when there are suspicious login attempts, they temporarily lock both the UI Online account AND freeze access to the debit card system. They had to manually verify my identity and then unlock both systems. Took about 15 minutes once I actually got through to someone.

•Thank you for suggesting this! I've never heard of Claimyr before but at this point I'll try anything. I've been calling non-stop for the past hour with no luck. Going to check out that video now.

This situation happens more often than you'd think. Here's the technical explanation for why both systems might be locked at the same time: EDD and Money Network have an identity verification protocol that can trigger a dual-system lockout if certain patterns are detected. These include: 1. Multiple failed login attempts (on either system) 2. Access attempts from new devices or locations 3. Changes to your claim or personal information 4. Scheduled system maintenance that encounters errors The solution differs depending on which triggered it: - For maintenance issues: Wait 24-48 hours, then try again - For security lockouts: You need to call EDD at 1-800-300-5616, then select the option for account access issues (not regular claim questions) - For verification failures: You'll need to complete a new ID.me verification In the meantime, if you have your physical card, most ATMs will still show your balance even if phone banking is locked. You can also try the Money Network mobile app, which sometimes works when the website doesn't. Keep all documentation of your attempts to resolve this in case your benefits are delayed.

•Thank you for this detailed explanation! I checked an ATM and at least could see my balance, so that's a relief. I've been trying that specific EDD number you mentioned but still getting the high call volume message. Going to keep trying and might use that Claimyr service if I can't get through by tomorrow.

•OMG THANK YOU for the update! I just tried both and mine are working again too! Must have been that system maintenance the other person mentioned. What a relief - but still frustrating they don't communicate these things better. Thanks everyone for your help!

Glad to hear it's working again for you both! This kind of outage is so stressful when you're depending on those funds. For future reference, I've found that following @EDD_CA on Twitter can sometimes give you heads up about system maintenance - they don't always post about it but occasionally they'll mention major updates. Also, if this happens again, you can usually still use your debit card for purchases even when phone/online access is down, which might help in emergencies. The ATM balance check trick mentioned above is also super useful to remember!

•Thanks for the Twitter tip! I had no idea @EDD_CA existed - just followed them. You're absolutely right about the stress factor - when you're already dealing with unemployment, the last thing you need is to worry about accessing your benefits. I'm definitely bookmarking this thread for future reference since it seems like this kind of lockout happens pretty regularly. Really appreciate everyone who shared their experiences and solutions!

This is such a common issue that really shows how poorly EDD communicates with us! I went through something similar last month where both my Money Network card and UI Online were locked at the same time. Turned out it was triggered by me logging in from my work computer for the first time - their security system flagged it as suspicious activity. What helped me was calling Money Network directly at 1-866-692-9374 instead of the number on the back of the card. Sometimes their different phone lines have different availability. Also, try logging into UI Online using an incognito/private browser window - sometimes cached data can cause authentication issues even when the system is working normally. If you're still having trouble tomorrow, definitely try that Claimyr service others mentioned. I was skeptical at first but it really does work. The peace of mind is worth the cost when you're worried about rent money! Glad to see from the updates that it's working again for some people - hopefully yours resolves soon too.

•Great additional tips! I never thought about trying the direct Money Network number instead of the card's customer service line. That incognito browser trick is smart too - I work in IT and should have thought of that myself! It's crazy how a simple thing like logging in from a different location can trigger such a massive lockout. The EDD system seems overly sensitive sometimes. Thanks for sharing your experience - it's helpful to know I'm not the only one who's dealt with this nightmare!

I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now! Both my Money Network card phone access and UI Online have been locked since this morning. It's so frustrating that there's no clear communication about system maintenance or security lockouts. I've been reading through all these responses and it sounds like this is unfortunately pretty common. I'm going to try the ATM balance check first since I need to know how much I have available, then work through the other suggestions - calling from a different phone, trying incognito mode, and that direct Money Network number someone mentioned. If those don't work, I might have to bite the bullet and use Claimyr since I can't afford to wait days to get through. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and solutions - it's really helpful to know what's worked for others and that this usually does resolve itself eventually. The EDD system definitely needs better communication though!

•Oh no, sorry you're dealing with this too! Based on what everyone's been sharing in this thread, it sounds like there might be ongoing system issues or security lockdowns affecting multiple people. Have you tried checking your balance at an ATM with your physical card yet? That seems to work even when the phone and online systems are down. Also, some people mentioned their access came back after the system maintenance finished, so hopefully yours will resolve soon too. Keep us posted on what works for you!
