After eligibility interview - website down & can't confirm approval - what now?

Had my eligibility interview on March 12th and it seemed positive. The interviewer reviewed my termination details (was let go on 2/27 due to 'performance issues' which were never documented). She mentioned I don't have any disqualifying factors and said we'd wait until March 14th to see if my former employer responds to her inquiry. She specifically said 'in my experience, this employer rarely responds to EDD' and promised to call me if they did. Well, no call came so I guess that's positive? I've certified for the last two weeks since my termination, but I'm completely in the dark about whether I've been approved or if payment is coming. The EDD website has been completely inaccessible for me since Monday (tried on laptop, phone, different browsers, clearing cache, everything). Just keeps showing the maintenance page or errors out. This is my first time dealing with unemployment and I'm getting really anxious. My rent is due next week. Any advice on what I should do next? Should I call? Is website downtime normal? How long before I know if I'm approved?

The fact that you didn't get a call from the interviewer is definitely a good sign. In my experience, they only contact you again if there's an issue. As for the website, EDD has been doing system updates recently, but it shouldn't be down for more than 24 hours at a time. I'd recommend trying to log in early morning (like 5-6am) when there's less traffic. To check if you've been approved, you can also call the EDD automated phone system at 1-866-333-4606. It often has status updates even when the website is down. If your claim shows as 'paid,' it usually takes 1-2 days for the money to hit your BofA EDD card or direct deposit, depending on what you set up.

Thanks! I didn't know about the automated phone system. I'll try calling that right now. I set up direct deposit but haven't received any confirmation email that my payments are being processed or anything. Do they normally send notifications?

I've tried Chrome, Firefox and Edge plus my phone. Nothing works! Guess I'll keep trying throughout the day. This is driving me nuts.

What the interviewer told you is promising. I went through something similar in January. Here's what typically happens next: 1. If you don't hear back within 10 days after the interview, your claim is likely approved 2. The EDD UI Online will show your payments changing from "pending" to "paid" 3. First payment usually includes multiple weeks at once About the website issues - this happens a lot with EDD, especially on Sundays and Mondays when everyone's certifying. Try accessing at odd hours (very early morning or late night). If you really need to check your status immediately, calling is your best option. Just be prepared to spend hours dealing with busy signals. I finally got through by using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they have a system that calls EDD for you and connects you when an agent is available. Saved me days of frustration. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Hang in there - the first payment is always the most stressful!

10 days?! That's a relief. I was expecting something quicker. I'll check out that Claimyr service - at this point I'm desperate enough to try anything. The interviewer seemed confident I'd be approved but the silence is killing me. Thanks for the detailed info!

if they said u dont have disqualifying factors, ur good 2 go. EDD is SLOW especially for 1st payments. my nephew waited almost 3 wks after interview but got paid suddenly w/no notice and no website updates!!! check ur bank account every day.

That's definitely not always true! I was told 'no disqualifying factors' in my interview and then got denied two weeks later because my former employer finally responded with some BS story. The interviewer isn't the one who makes the final decision - they just gather info. ALWAYS follow up if you don't see a payment status change after a week!

When I had my EDD eligibility interview last fall, I thought everything went fine too. Then my employer responded at the LAST possible minute with a completely different story. Make sure you keep checking your UI Online inbox for any messages requiring additional information. I missed one and it delayed my payments by 6 weeks! The system is designed to frustrate you into giving up.

Oh no, that's exactly what I'm afraid of! I can't even check my inbox because the website won't load. Would they also contact me by mail if they need more information?

To answer your latest question - yes, EDD will send important notices by both electronic communication AND regular mail. So check your physical mailbox daily too. Regarding the website issues, this is my exact process when EDD's site acts up: 1. Clear browser cache completely (not just cookies) 2. Try using a different internet connection (mobile data vs. home wifi) 3. Try during off-peak hours (before 7am or after 10pm) 4. If nothing works for 48+ hours, call the technical support line at 1-833-978-2511 (not the regular EDD line) Also, don't worry too much about the direct deposit setup. Your first payment often takes longer as they're establishing everything in the system. Subsequent payments are usually faster once the pipeline is established.

Thank you so much for these detailed steps! I'll try the technical support line tomorrow morning if I still can't get in. It's good to know they send physical mail too - I'll keep an eye on my mailbox.

I just went through this exact same situation! My interview was early February, and yes - 'no disqualifying factors' is EDD-speak for 'likely approval'. But here's what they don't tell you: even after approval, your first certification week often shows as 'pending' for longer than normal while they finish processing everything. My timeline was: - Interview (Day 0) - Employer deadline passed (Day 2) - Status changed to 'approved' on website (Day 6) - Certified for weeks (Day 10) - First certification stayed 'pending' (Days 10-14) - All weeks suddenly paid (Day 15) The website downtime is frustrating but normal. If you need immediate confirmation of your status, you absolutely need to speak with a representative. I wasted FOUR DAYS trying to get through before I found a service called Claimyr that connected me within 20 minutes. Worth checking out their demo: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km One last tip - make sure you're not mixing up regular UI with SDI or PFL on the website login. They have separate systems and that trips people up all the time.

This timeline is so helpful, thank you! Day 6 would be about Monday for me, so maybe I'll be able to see something by then if the website comes back up. And no, I'm definitely on the UI portal (or trying to be). Really appreciate the detailed breakdown of what to expect!

The EDD system is designed to be frustrating on purpose! They're hoping people will give up and not collect benefits. I had THREE eligibility interviews for the same issue and each interviewer told me something completely different. When the website is down, it's not an accident - they're blocking people from checking status updates while they process backlogged claims. The fact that your former employer doesn't respond is actually lucky for you - that's how I got approved. If the company doesn't contest it, EDD usually sides with the claimant. KEEP TRYING TO LOG IN and document EVERYTHING.

While I understand the frustration with EDD systems, the website maintenance is actually scheduled and announced in advance most of the time. They're required by law to process claims within certain timeframes, so deliberately preventing people from accessing the system wouldn't make sense from a compliance standpoint. The system is definitely outdated though, which is why it goes down so frequently during high-traffic periods.
