UPDATE: Had my hearing today! It went way better than expected. The judge was actually really understanding about the IHSS employer confusion. She looked at my W-2s and the letter from my caseworker and said this type of misunderstanding happens regularly with IHSS providers. The whole thing took about 25 minutes, and she said I should receive a written decision within 7-10 days, but she indicated she'll be ruling in my favor! So relieved right now. Thanks again for all your help and advice everyone!
Congratulations! Exactly the outcome I expected based on your situation. When you get the official ruling, make sure to call EDD to confirm when your payments will resume - sometimes there's an additional delay even after a favorable decision.
Congratulations on the positive outcome! Your story is a perfect example of why preparation and honesty matter so much in these hearings. The fact that you took everyone's advice - getting the caseworker letter, organizing your W-2s, practicing your explanation - clearly made a huge difference. For anyone else reading this who might face a similar situation: this is exactly how these cases should go when it's genuinely just a paperwork error. The system works when you come prepared with documentation and can clearly explain the mistake. Thanks for sharing your experience - it'll definitely help other IHSS caregivers who run into this same confusion!
This whole thread has been so helpful to read through! I'm actually in a similar situation - just got my disqualification notice last week for the same IHSS employer confusion. @dec2424ba17f your story gives me so much hope! I was panicking thinking they'd automatically assume I was trying to commit fraud. Going to start gathering all my documentation now and request a letter from my caseworker too. Thank you for sharing your experience and congratulations on the win!
UPDATE: I managed to get through to EDD this morning after calling repeatedly since 8:01am. The representative confirmed what @helpful_expert said - my current claim will process payments until Wednesday, then I need to file a new claim that same day. She also put a note on my account about the situation to help avoid delays. Thanks everyone for your advice!
Wow, what a relief that you got through to EDD and got confirmation! It's so frustrating how these edge cases aren't clearly explained anywhere on their website. Your situation is probably way more common than they realize, especially with all the seasonal workers who cycle through the system. Thanks for updating us with what the rep told you - this thread is going to be super helpful for anyone else who finds themselves in the same boat with a mid-week benefit year expiration!
Absolutely agree! I'm actually bookmarking this thread because I have a feeling I might run into something similar when my seasonal work ends next year. It's crazy that such a common scenario isn't covered in their FAQ or anywhere obvious on the site. Really shows how the system wasn't designed with real-world situations in mind. Props to @Elijah O'Reilly for sharing the update and to everyone who helped figure this out!
Hey there! I went through something similar a few months ago - accidentally put the wrong end date for my employment and was panicking about it. Here's what worked for me: First, definitely use the UI Online messaging system like others suggested, but also document EVERYTHING. Take screenshots of your messages, keep notes of when you called, etc. This paper trail is super important if there are any issues later. Second, when you do get through to someone (whether by phone or message response), be completely upfront about the mistake. Say something like "I made an error on my initial application - I marked full-time employment when I was actually part-time at 25 hours per week before my layoff." Don't overthink it or make it sound complicated. The good news is that since you were laid off completely (not just reduced hours), this mistake probably won't affect your eligibility - just potentially your benefit calculation. And honestly, correcting it might even work in your favor since part-time workers sometimes get different (sometimes better) treatment in the system. Hang in there - EDD mistakes are stressful but very fixable. The key is just getting to the right person to make the correction.
This is really reassuring to hear from someone who's been through something similar! I'm definitely going to document everything like you suggested. I hadn't thought about taking screenshots but that's smart. Quick question - when you corrected your employment end date, did it end up affecting your weekly benefit amount at all? I'm curious if fixing the part-time vs full-time thing might change my benefits calculation (hopefully not in a bad way!).
@Keisha Johnson In my case, correcting the end date didn t'change my weekly benefit amount since it was just a date error. But for the part-time vs full-time correction, it could potentially affect your calculation since EDD uses your earnings history and work pattern to determine benefits. The good news is that if you were consistently part-time, your benefit amount should be calculated correctly based on your actual earnings - it might even be more accurate than what they initially calculated assuming full-time work. When I spoke with the EDD rep, they explained that the system automatically recalculates everything once the correction is made, so you don t'have to worry about doing any math yourself. Just make sure to ask them to confirm your new weekly benefit amount once the correction is processed!
I've been following this thread and wanted to share my recent experience with a similar issue. I accidentally put the wrong start date for my last job on my EDD application and was stressed about it affecting my claim. Here's what I learned: EDD actually prefers when people proactively correct mistakes rather than letting them sit. When I finally got through to a rep (took about a week of trying), she told me that honest mistakes like these happen all the time and they have a straightforward process to fix them. The rep was able to update my information right there on the call and explained that since I hadn't been paid any benefits yet, the correction wouldn't cause any overpayment issues. She also mentioned that the system will automatically recalculate everything based on the corrected info. One tip that really helped me get through on the phone: I called exactly at 8:00 AM (not 8:01 like some people suggest) on a Wednesday. It took about 20 minutes of being on hold, but I did get through. Also, have your Social Security number and all your employment details ready before you call - they'll want to verify everything. Don't stress too much about this - you're being honest and proactive, which is exactly what they want to see. The correction should be pretty straightforward since you caught it early!
Just checking back - any luck getting through to EDD? Did you try Claimyr or the bank visit approach? I'm invested in your story now and hoping you got it resolved before rent was due!
Thank you for checking back! I actually tried the Claimyr service you recommended and got through to EDD yesterday afternoon. You were right - they said it was an identity verification issue. They removed the lock and told me it would take 24-48 hours to process. I just checked my account this morning and the funds are available now! Thank goodness, because rent is due tomorrow. Really appreciate everyone's help here!
That's awesome news! So glad you got it sorted out in time for rent. Claimyr really is a lifesaver for getting through to EDD - saved me so much frustration when I was dealing with my own claim issues. Hope everything stays smooth for you going forward!
So happy to hear you got it resolved! This thread is going to be super helpful for anyone else dealing with the same security lock issue. It's crazy how common this problem seems to be with new EDD cards, but at least now there's a clear roadmap: try Claimyr to get through faster, have your ID docs ready, ask for identity verification department, and don't hang up once you're in the queue. Thanks for updating us - I was worried you wouldn't make rent on time!
This is such a relief to read! I'm actually dealing with a similar situation right now - just got my EDD card yesterday and it has the same security lock. Reading through this whole thread has been incredibly helpful. I'm going to try the Claimyr service first thing tomorrow morning and make sure I have all my identity documents ready. It's so frustrating that this seems to be such a common issue, but at least there's a proven solution. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - this community is a lifesaver!

I just ran into this exact same issue about an hour ago! The workaround with clicking next to the radio button instead of directly on it totally saved me. It's such a bizarre glitch - makes you wonder how many people get stuck on this and just give up trying to certify. Really hope EDD gets this fixed soon because missing certification deadlines over a website bug is incredibly stressful when you're depending on these benefits. Thanks to everyone who shared solutions!

•Same here! I was getting so frustrated until I found this thread. It's crazy that such a simple UI bug can cause so much stress when people are already dealing with financial pressure. The fact that multiple people figured out the same workaround independently shows how broken this particular feature is. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences - this community is a lifesaver when EDD's systems fail us.

This exact same thing happened to me this morning too! I was getting so frustrated thinking I was doing something wrong. The workaround with clicking next to the radio button instead of directly on it worked perfectly for me as well. It's really concerning that EDD's system has such basic UI bugs that can prevent people from certifying on time. For anyone else running into this - be patient and try the workaround that Jay Lincoln suggested earlier in this thread. It might take a couple tries to get the positioning right, but it does work. Really hoping they fix this before the next certification period because this kind of stress is the last thing unemployed folks need to deal with!
