SDI only paid 30 days for maternity leave, no PFL info yet. Help!

Hey everyone, I'm having some issues with my SDI payment for maternity leave. I only got part of the payment covering 30 days of disability, but I think I should've received more. Also, I haven't gotten any info about applying for paid family leave yet. My baby was born about 2 months ago. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on what I should do next?

Ugh, dealing with SDI can be such a headache! 🤦‍♀️ I had a similar issue last year. Have you tried calling them? It took me forever to get through, but once I did, they were able to sort it out.

I've been trying to call for days but no luck getting through. It's so frustrating!

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 20 mins on hold that way.

lol good luck with that. i swear they have like 2 people working the phones 🙄

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds sketchy. Is it legit?

Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical too but it saved me hours of hold time.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Double-check your claim start date. It should be the day your doctor certified you couldn't work anymore due to pregnancy. 2. SDI typically covers up to 4 weeks before your due date and 6-8 weeks after birth, depending on delivery type. 3. For Paid Family Leave (PFL), you need to file a separate claim. It doesn't happen automatically. 4. You can apply for PFL online through the EDD website. Do it ASAP because there's a time limit. 5. If you're still having issues, definitely call them. Use the trick someone mentioned about calling right when they open. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you so much! This is really helpful. I'll double-check everything and apply for PFL right away.

ikr? and don't even get me started on how little we actually get paid for leave 🙄

Congrats on the new baby! 🎉👶 Don't stress too much about the SDI stuff, it'll work out. Just focus on enjoying those newborn snuggles!

Has anyone else noticed that the EDD website is always "under maintenance" when you actually need to use it? 🤔

0 coins

omg yes! It's like they know exactly when I'm gonna log on and shut it down just to mess with me 😂

Pro tip: try using it late at night or early morning. Less traffic = fewer issues

Quick question - did you receive a DE 2517-04 notice? That's usually sent when there's an issue with the claim filing timeframe. Might be worth checking your mail/inbox.

I don't think I got that notice. Should I be worried?

Not necessarily, but keep an eye out for it. If you do get one, respond to it ASAP.

Hey @a8fc72ec4b13! First off, congrats on your new baby! 🎉 I went through something similar last year. A few things to check: Make sure your SDI claim covered the full period you were unable to work (usually 6-8 weeks post-delivery). For PFL, you definitely need to file a separate claim - it's not automatic. You can do this online through the EDD portal. Since your baby is already 2 months old, I'd prioritize getting that PFL application in ASAP because there are filing deadlines. Also, double-check that all your medical documentation was submitted correctly for the SDI claim. Sometimes missing paperwork can cause partial payments. Good luck! 🍀

Thank you so much @b82135e541c1! This is really helpful advice. I'm definitely going to check my SDI claim period and get that PFL application submitted today. I had no idea it wasn't automatic - that explains a lot! Really appreciate you taking the time to break it all down for me. 🙏
