SDI Claim Stuck on "Pending Processing" for Weeks - No Payments Received. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm dealing with an SDI claim issue and could use some advice. I filed for SDI due to pregnancy, starting mid-July, and then had my baby in mid-August. My claim status is still showing as "Pending Processing" and I haven't received any payments yet. Both my doctor and employer submitted the required paperwork through the portal. I'm wondering if EDD needs anything else from me or if it's just taking a while to process. Has anyone experienced similar delays? Any idea on when I might start seeing payments? I'm getting worried since bills are piling up.

Ugh, I feel your pain! I went through something similar last year. It's so frustrating when you're waiting on money you need and can't get answers. Have you tried calling them directly? It might take forever to get through, but sometimes that's the only way to get real answers.

β’I've been trying to call for days but can never get through. It's like hitting a brick wall every time. π«

β’Pro tip: call right when they open. Set an alarm and start dialing at 7:59 AM. Sometimes you can get through before the lines get jammed.

β’Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a shot tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed π€

Congrats on the baby! π But yeah, EDD is a mess rn. I waited almost 2 months for my first payment. Keep checking your online account daily and make sure to respond to any requests for info ASAP. Sometimes they need additional docs but don't tell you clearly.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

β’Sounds sketchy. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

β’I get the skepticism, but it's totally legit. I was desperate and took a chance. Got through to an agent in about an hour. Way better than spending days trying to call myself.

Listen up, cause I've been down this road before and I'm gonna drop some knowledge on ya. Here's what you need to do: β’ First off, don't panic. EDD is slow af but they'll get to you eventually. β’ Double-check your online account to make sure all docs are there. Sometimes stuff gets "lost". β’ If you can, get your doctor to call EDD directly. They have a special line and can sometimes speed things up. β’ Keep a log of all your attempts to contact them. Dates, times, who you talked to if you get through. β’ If it goes past 3 weeks with no movement, reach out to your local state representative. They can sometimes light a fire under EDD's ass. β’ Make sure your mailing address is up to date. Sometimes they send stuff snail mail (I know, it's 2024, wtf right?) β’ If you get desperate, consider the paid calling service someone mentioned. I haven't used it, but I've heard good things. Hang in there, OP. The system sucks, but you'll get your money eventually. Don't be afraid to be a squeaky wheel!

Not to freak you out, but my friend's claim took 3 months to process last year. EDD is seriously understaffed and overworked. Keep pushing and don't give up!

β’ikr? It's a broken system. She had to borrow money from family to get by. Not everyone has that option tho π

Hey OP, just wondering - did you get any kind of confirmation when your doctor submitted the form? Might be worth double-checking with them to make sure it went through on their end.

β’That's a good point. I saw it marked as submitted in my portal, but I'll give the doctor's office a call to confirm. Can't hurt to be sure!

I work in HR and deal with this stuff all the time. Here's a pro tip: call the employer assistance line and ask them to file an inquiry on your behalf. Sometimes that can speed things up. Good luck!

I'm going through something similar right now - filed my SDI claim 6 weeks ago for a back injury and still stuck on "pending processing." It's absolutely maddening when you're dealing with medical issues AND financial stress at the same time. I've tried calling multiple times but like everyone else, can't get through. The worst part is not knowing if there's something missing or if it's just their usual snail pace. Really hoping things move faster for you since you have a new baby to take care of! Keep us updated on what works - we're all learning from each other's experiences here.

β’I'm so sorry you're dealing with this too! 6 weeks is way too long, especially when you're injured and can't work. It's crazy how they leave us hanging with zero communication. Have you tried any of the suggestions people mentioned here? I'm definitely going to try the early morning calling trick and maybe reach out to my state rep if nothing happens soon. Fingers crossed both of our claims get moving! π€

I'm in the exact same boat! Filed my SDI claim 5 weeks ago for a work injury and it's been stuck on "pending processing" this whole time. It's so frustrating because you're already dealing with being unable to work and then you have to stress about when (or if) you'll get the financial support you're entitled to. I've been checking my online account obsessively hoping to see some movement. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here - at least we know we're not alone in this mess. The early morning calling strategy sounds promising, I'm definitely going to try that tomorrow. Good luck OP, hope you get some answers soon! π€

β’I'm so sorry to hear you're dealing with this too! It really does help knowing we're not alone in this frustrating situation. 5 weeks is way too long - I can't imagine dealing with a work injury AND this kind of financial stress. The early morning calling trick seems to be the most consistent advice I'm seeing here. Maybe we should all coordinate and share what times work best? I'm also thinking about trying that employer assistance line suggestion from Noah Lee - seems like it might be worth a shot. Hang in there, and please update us if you make any progress! We're all rooting for each other here. πͺ

I'm dealing with the exact same situation! Filed my SDI claim about 4 weeks ago for pregnancy-related complications and it's been stuck on "pending processing" ever since. Like you, all my paperwork was submitted properly through the portal, but absolutely no movement or communication from EDD. It's incredibly stressful when you're already dealing with medical issues and a new baby on the way (congrats by the way! π). I've been lurking in this community for weeks trying to find answers, and it seems like this is unfortunately the norm rather than the exception. The lack of transparency from EDD is what gets me the most - like, just tell us what's going on! I'm definitely going to try some of the suggestions here, especially the early morning calling strategy and checking with my doctor's office to confirm everything went through properly on their end. Thanks for posting this - it's oddly comforting to know I'm not the only one going through this nightmare. Please keep us updated on any progress you make!

β’Thank you for sharing your experience! It's both comforting and frustrating to know so many of us are dealing with the same issues. 4 weeks is way too long, especially when you're dealing with pregnancy complications - that must be incredibly stressful! I really appreciate the congrats too π It sounds like we're all learning that this "pending processing" limbo is unfortunately EDD's standard operating procedure rather than an exception. The lack of communication is definitely the worst part - even a simple status update would help so much! I'm going to try calling first thing tomorrow morning and will definitely update everyone on how it goes. Hoping your claim gets moving soon too - please keep us posted on any progress you make! We're all in this together πͺ

I'm in a very similar situation - filed my SDI claim about 7 weeks ago for a surgery recovery and it's been stuck on "pending processing" this entire time. It's absolutely mind-boggling how they can leave people hanging for so long with zero communication, especially when you're already dealing with medical issues and can't work. What really gets me is that we pay into this system through our paychecks, and then when we actually need it, they treat us like we're asking for charity. I've tried calling dozens of times but like everyone else, I just get busy signals or endless hold music that goes nowhere. I'm definitely going to try the early morning calling strategy that @Ellie Simpson mentioned - seems like that's the most consistent advice I'm seeing here. Also thinking about reaching out to my state representative like @Diego Fisher suggested. At this point I'm willing to try anything! Thanks for posting this OP - it's frustrating but somehow reassuring to know we're all dealing with the same broken system. Please keep us updated if you make any progress, and I'll do the same. We've got to stick together and share what works! πͺ

β’7 weeks?! That's absolutely unacceptable! You're so right about paying into the system and then being treated like we're begging for handouts when we actually need it. The whole situation is just broken. I'm definitely going to try calling early tomorrow morning too - maybe if enough of us start getting through at once, we can put some pressure on them to actually do their jobs. Thanks for mentioning the state rep option again - I think that might be my next step if I can't get anywhere by phone. We definitely need to keep sharing what works because clearly we can't rely on EDD to communicate with us properly. Hang in there! π€

I'm going through almost the exact same thing - filed my SDI claim 6 weeks ago for a knee surgery and it's been stuck on "pending processing" the whole time. It's so frustrating because you're already stressed about recovery and not being able to work, and then you have to deal with this bureaucratic nightmare on top of it all. What really bothers me is how they make it seem like filing online is so simple and efficient, but then you get stuck in this black hole with zero updates or communication. I've been obsessively checking my account every day hoping to see some change. Reading through all these comments is actually really helpful though - at least now I know I'm not alone and there are some concrete steps to try. Definitely going to attempt the early morning calling strategy tomorrow and maybe look into that employer assistance line option. Thanks for posting this OP, and congrats on your new baby! πΌ Hopefully we all start seeing some movement on our claims soon. I'll update if I make any progress!

β’Thanks for sharing your experience! It's both reassuring and maddening to see how many of us are dealing with identical situations. 6 weeks for a knee surgery claim is ridiculous - you shouldn't have to stress about money while you're trying to recover! The "black hole" description is so accurate - it's like our claims just disappear into the void with no way to track what's actually happening. I've been doing the same obsessive account checking hoping for any sign of progress π Really hoping the early morning calling trick works for all of us. Please keep us posted on how it goes - we need all the success stories we can get to keep our spirits up! Wishing you a smooth recovery! πͺ

I'm so sorry you're going through this, especially with a new baby! I went through a similar situation last year - filed my SDI claim for maternity leave and it sat in "pending processing" for almost 8 weeks. It's absolutely nerve-wracking when you're already dealing with the stress of a new baby and recovery. A few things that eventually helped me: β’ I called the SDI number every single day at exactly 8:00 AM for a week straight until I got through β’ When I finally reached someone, they told me there was a "technical glitch" that had flagged my claim for manual review (of course they never bothered to tell me this) β’ Make sure to document every call attempt with dates/times - it shows persistence when you do get through β’ Check that your employer submitted the correct form (DE 2515) and not just any generic form - apparently this is a common issue The whole system is broken and it's especially cruel when new parents are already vulnerable. But hang in there - once it finally gets processed, you should get all the back pay from when your claim started. Sending you strength during this frustrating time! π

β’Thank you so much for sharing your experience and the detailed advice! 8 weeks is absolutely insane, but it's helpful to know there's light at the end of the tunnel. The "technical glitch" thing is so typical - of course they don't bother communicating these issues to us! I'm definitely going to start that daily 8 AM calling routine tomorrow and make sure to document everything. Really appreciate you mentioning the DE 2515 form specifically - I'll double-check with my employer that they submitted the right one. It's stories like yours that give me hope that this will eventually get resolved. Thank you for the encouragement! π

I'm in almost exactly the same situation as you! Filed my SDI claim 5 weeks ago for pregnancy-related bed rest and it's been stuck on "pending processing" ever since. It's so stressful dealing with this when you're already worried about your health and preparing for a baby. I've been reading through all these comments and it's both comforting and infuriating to see how common this is. The lack of communication from EDD is the worst part - like, just give us SOME kind of update! I'm definitely going to try the early morning calling strategy that everyone's mentioning. Also thinking about having my doctor's office call directly since someone mentioned they have a special line. At this point I'm willing to try anything to get some movement on this claim. Thanks for posting this - it really helps knowing we're all going through the same nightmare together. Congrats on your baby! π Please keep us updated if you make any progress!

β’I'm so sorry you're dealing with this too, especially during pregnancy bed rest - that must be incredibly stressful! 5 weeks is way too long when you need that support the most. The lack of communication really is the worst part - it's like they forget we're real people with real bills and medical needs. I love the idea of having your doctor call their special line - I hadn't thought of that! Maybe medical providers have more luck getting through than us regular folks. Definitely going to mention that to my OB at my next appointment. Thanks for the congrats, and same to you! π We've got to keep supporting each other through this broken system. Please update us if the doctor calling trick works - that could be a game changer for all of us! Hang in there! πͺ

I'm dealing with the exact same issue! Filed my SDI claim about 3 weeks ago for a work-related injury and it's been stuck on "pending processing" this entire time. It's so frustrating because you're already stressed about not being able to work and then you have to worry about when you'll actually get the financial support you need. Reading through all these comments has been both helpful and disheartening - helpful because I'm learning about strategies I can try (definitely going to attempt that 8 AM calling routine!), but disheartening because it's clear this is a widespread problem with EDD's system rather than just isolated cases. I really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences and tips here. It's comforting to know we're not alone in this, even though it's awful that so many people are struggling with the same issues. The suggestion about having your doctor call their special line is brilliant - I'm going to ask about that at my next appointment. Congrats on your baby, OP! π I can't imagine dealing with this stress while caring for a newborn. Please keep us updated on any progress - we're all rooting for each other here and sharing what works seems to be our best bet for navigating this broken system. Hang in there! πͺ

β’Welcome to the club nobody wants to be in! π 3 weeks might seem "short" compared to some of the horror stories here, but when you're injured and can't work, every day feels like forever. It's crazy how we all have almost identical experiences - makes you wonder what's really going on behind the scenes at EDD. The doctor calling strategy definitely seems promising since they apparently have a special line us mere mortals can't access. I'm also thinking about trying that employer assistance line @Noah Lee mentioned - might be worth a shot since you mentioned it s'work-related. Keep fighting the good fight and definitely try that 8 AM calling routine! We ve'got to keep sharing intel because clearly EDD won t'give us any useful information on their own. Hope your injury heals quickly and your claim gets moving soon! π€

I'm so sorry you're going through this, especially with a newborn! I went through something similar earlier this year - filed my SDI claim for surgery recovery and waited almost 6 weeks before getting any movement. What finally worked for me was a combination of persistence and getting the right person on the phone. Here's what I'd recommend based on my experience: β’ Try the 8 AM calling strategy religiously - it really does work better than calling later β’ When you do get through, ask specifically if there are any "pending actions" on your account that require your attention β’ Request a "case escalation" if you've been waiting more than 4 weeks - this is a magic phrase that seems to get their attention β’ Keep a detailed log of every call attempt, any reference numbers they give you, and names of reps you speak with The most frustrating part is not knowing if it's just their normal slow pace or if there's actually something holding up your claim. Once I finally got through to someone, they were able to see that my claim had been flagged for some random review that nobody had bothered to tell me about. Hang in there - the back pay will come through once it's approved, so you won't lose any money, just your sanity waiting for it! π Please update us when you make progress - we're all learning from each other's experiences here.

β’This is incredibly helpful advice, thank you so much! The "case escalation" phrase is something I definitely need to try - it's frustrating that we have to learn these magic words just to get basic service. I've been keeping a log like you suggested, but I hadn't thought to ask specifically about "pending actions" on my account. That's such a good point about not knowing if it's normal slowness or if there's actually an issue blocking progress. 6 weeks must have been absolutely nerve-wracking, especially while recovering from surgery! Really appreciate you taking the time to share what worked for you. I'm definitely going to try that 8 AM calling routine starting tomorrow and use these specific phrases when I get through. Thanks for the reminder about back pay too - that does help ease some of the financial stress. Will definitely update everyone once I make some progress! π

I'm in a very similar situation - filed my SDI claim 4 weeks ago for postpartum recovery and it's been stuck on "pending processing" the entire time. It's so incredibly stressful dealing with this while trying to recover and care for a new baby! Reading through all these comments has been really eye-opening - it's both reassuring and infuriating to see how many of us are dealing with identical issues. The lack of communication from EDD is just unacceptable, especially when we're already in vulnerable situations. I'm definitely going to try some of the strategies mentioned here, particularly the 8 AM calling routine and asking about "pending actions" on my account. The idea of having my doctor call their special line also sounds promising - might be worth asking about at my next postpartum checkup.
