PFL payment approved but not received - what to do?
Has anyone else had issues with their paid family leave payment not coming through? I was approved but haven't received anything yet. Starting to get worried about bills piling up. Any advice on what to do or who to contact?

Ugh, I'm in the same boat. It's been weeks since I was approved and still nothing. The anxiety is killing me 😫

•How long has it been for you? I'm on week 3 of waiting and starting to lose hope

•Going on 5 weeks now. This is ridiculous. They expect us to just magically pay our bills with no income?

•5 weeks?! That's insane. Have you tried calling them? I know its a pain but might be worth it

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. Used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? $20 seems steep

•Yeah, I was skeptical too but it actually worked for me. Got through in about an hour. Worth it to finally get some answers

•I've heard of this. My friend used it and said it saved her sanity lol. Might have to try it myself

Have you checked your bank account info on file? Sometimes they have the wrong routing number or account number and that can cause delays.

This happened to me last year. Turns out there was a glitch in their system and a bunch of payments got held up. I had to call and bug them every day for a week before they finally fixed it and released the funds. Don't give up!

•Oh no, that sounds like a nightmare. How long did it take before you finally got your money?

•It took about 3 weeks from when I first noticed the problem. Keep calling and don't let them brush you off!

Pro tip: if you can get through to someone, ask them to escalate your case to a supervisor. Sometimes that can speed things up. Good luck!

The whole system is broken af. They expect us to jump through hoops while we're dealing with family emergencies. It's a joke 🤡

•Preach! 🙌 The amount of stress this adds to an already stressful situation is unreal

Here's what worked for me: 1. Double-check all your paperwork is correct and submitted 2. Call early in the morning, right when they open 3. Be polite but firm with the rep 4. Keep a log of all your calls and who you spoke to 5. If all else fails, contact your local state representative's office. They can sometimes help push things through Hang in there, OP. It's a frustrating process but you'll get through it!

•Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely try calling first thing tomorrow morning

•This is solid advice. The state rep tip is clutch - they helped me resolve an issue last year when I was getting nowhere with EDD

I went through this exact same situation a few months ago. My payment was approved but took almost 6 weeks to actually hit my account. What finally worked for me was filing a complaint through the EDD website - there's a specific form for payment delays. Within 3 days of submitting it, I got a call back and my payment was released the next business day. Don't wait around hoping it'll just show up - be proactive and document everything. Also, if you're really struggling with bills, see if your utility companies or creditors have hardship programs while you wait for this to get sorted out.

•This is really helpful advice! Do you have a link to that specific complaint form? I've been looking all over the EDD website and can't seem to find it. The hardship program tip is great too - didn't even think about that option while waiting for this mess to get resolved.

•I can't find the exact link either, but when I search "EDD payment delay complaint form" on their site it usually comes up. You might also try going through the "Contact EDD" section and look for payment issues. The hardship programs really saved me - most utilities will give you 30-60 days if you explain the situation. PG&E was super understanding when I told them about the EDD delay.

I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now - approved for PFL two weeks ago but still no payment. It's so stressful when you're already dealing with a family situation and then have to worry about money on top of it. Thanks for posting this @Grace, at least I know I'm not alone. I'm going to try some of the suggestions here, especially calling first thing in the morning and looking into that complaint form. Has anyone had luck with emailing them instead of calling? Sometimes I find written communication gets better results than phone calls.

•@Naila, I've tried both email and phone calls in similar situations. From my experience, phone calls tend to get faster results because you can actually speak to a person who can look at your case in real time. Emails often just get generic responses or take days to get answered. That said, emailing can be good for creating a paper trail of your attempts to resolve the issue. Maybe try calling first, and if that doesn't work, follow up with an email referencing your phone call? That way you have documentation of all your efforts. Hope you get your payment soon - this whole system is so broken when people are already stressed about family situations.

I'm going through this nightmare right now too! Been approved for 3 weeks and nothing. The worst part is trying to explain to landlords and creditors why your government-approved benefit isn't actually in your account yet. I've been calling every day but just get put on hold for hours. Going to try that complaint form someone mentioned and maybe the paid calling service too - at this point $20 seems worth it just to preserve my sanity. It's wild that we have to pay extra just to get through to the agency that's supposed to help us. Stay strong everyone, we'll get through this mess! 💪

•@Keisha I feel you on the landlord/creditor situation! That's the most embarrassing part - having to explain that yes, you were approved for government assistance but no, you can't actually access it yet. I've been in this boat before and what helped me was getting a letter or screenshot from the EDD portal showing your approval status. Most landlords and utility companies are surprisingly understanding when you can show them official documentation that payment is coming, it's just delayed on the government's end. Hang in there - the fact that you're approved is the hard part, the money will eventually come through!

This is so frustrating and unfortunately way too common. I went through the same thing last year - got approved but then waited almost a month for the actual payment. What finally worked for me was a combination of things: I called every single day (usually around 8 AM right when they opened), kept detailed notes of every conversation, and also reached out to my state assembly member's office. The assembly member's caseworker was able to track down my payment and get it expedited within a week. Don't be afraid to escalate - you shouldn't have to suffer financially because of their system delays. Also, if you have any documentation showing your approval, save screenshots of everything in case you need proof later. Hope this gets resolved for you soon!

•@Paolo this is really helpful - I never thought about contacting my assembly member's office! That's such a good tip. Quick question - when you called every day, did you find certain times worked better than others? I've been trying around lunchtime but maybe early morning is the way to go. Also, did you have to explain your whole situation from scratch each time or were they able to pull up your previous calls? Just trying to mentally prepare myself for what sounds like it's going to be a long process 😅

I'm going through this exact same nightmare right now! Got approved 3 weeks ago and still waiting for my payment. The stress of not knowing when it'll come while dealing with a family emergency is just overwhelming. I've tried calling but can never get through - just endless hold music. Reading through all these comments is both reassuring (I'm not alone) and terrifying (some of you have been waiting 5+ weeks?!). I'm definitely going to try calling first thing tomorrow morning and look into that complaint form. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and tips - it helps to know there's a community going through this together. Fingers crossed we all get our payments soon! 🤞

•@Harmony I totally feel your pain! Just went through this exact situation last month and the uncertainty is the worst part. One thing that really helped me was setting up account alerts with my bank so I'd know the second any deposit came through - at least it saved me from obsessively checking my balance every hour. Also, when you call tomorrow morning, try to have your case number and all your approval documentation ready to go. The reps can usually pull up your info faster if you have everything organized. You're definitely not alone in this - the system is broken but we're all rooting for each other! Keep us posted on how the morning call goes 💜

I'm in the exact same situation - approved 2 weeks ago but still no payment! The financial stress on top of dealing with a family situation is just brutal. I've been hesitant to spend money on that calling service someone mentioned, but honestly at this point it might be worth it just to get some answers. Has anyone tried the state assembly member route? That sounds promising but I'm not even sure who my representative is or how to contact their office. This whole thread is making me feel less crazy though - glad to know it's a widespread issue and not just something wrong with my specific case. Going to try calling first thing tomorrow and see if I can find that complaint form!

•@Kolton You can find your assembly member by going to findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov and entering your zip code. Most of their offices have constituent services staff who specifically help with issues like this. When I had a similar problem with disability payments, my assembly member's office was incredibly helpful - they actually have direct contacts at EDD that regular people can't reach. Don't feel bad about the calling service either - $20 is nothing compared to the stress and lost time of trying to get through on your own. I used it last month and got connected within 45 minutes. Sometimes you just have to invest a little to get results with these bureaucratic nightmares. Hope you get some movement on your case soon!
