PFL claim disappeared from EDD portal without notice - can't reach anyone for weeks. Help!
Has anyone else had their PFL claim disappear from the EDD portal without any notice? I've been trying to get through to EDD for weeks now with no luck. My claim vanished and I've been off work for a month already. I ended up submitting another claim, but now I have two in process and I'm not sure what's going on. I really need to talk to an agent to make sure everything is correct. Bills are piling up and I'm getting worried. Any advice on how to get this sorted out?

Ugh, I feel your pain! The EDD system is such a mess rn. I had a similar issue last year and it took me forever to get it resolved. Have you tried calling right when they open? Sometimes that works.

•Yeah, I've tried calling at opening time, during lunch, before closing... no luck so far. It's so frustrating!

•Pro tip: try calling on Wednesdays. For some reason, I've had better luck getting through midweek. 🤞

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me weeks of frustration. Worth every penny imo. They even refund you if it doesn't work.

•How long did you have to wait once they connected you?

•Not long at all! Maybe 5 minutes? Way better than spending hours on hold yourself.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your attempts to contact EDD, including dates and times. 2. Check your spam folder. Sometimes EDD emails end up there. 3. Try contacting them through their online portal if you haven't already. 4. Reach out to your local state representative's office. They often have liaisons who can help with EDD issues. 5. If all else fails, file a complaint with the state labor board. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up! The system is overwhelmed, but you have rights and will eventually get through.

•Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start documenting everything and try reaching out to my rep. Really appreciate it! 🙏

•This is solid advice. I'd add: make sure you're using the exact same info (name spelling, address, etc.) on all forms. Even small discrepancies can cause issues.

Have you checked if there's been any recent system updates or maintenance? Sometimes that can cause weird glitches. Might be worth checking their Twitter or Facebook for announcements.

•Good idea, I'll take a look. Didn't even think to check their social media. Thanks!

I'm in the same boat, its been 6 weeks for me. Starting to feel like I'm taking crazy pills. How can a government agency be this dysfunctional?

Hey OP, quick question - when you log into your account, do you see any pending tasks or messages? Sometimes there's hidden stuff you need to complete before they'll process your claim.

•I double-checked and don't see anything pending. It's like my claim just vanished into thin air. So weird!

Not to be that guy, but have you tried faxing them? I know it sounds ridiculous in 2023, but I've heard some people have had success going old school.

Protip: If you can't get through on the main line, try calling some of the other departments and asking to be transferred. Sometimes works like a charm 😉

I'm so sorry you're going through this! I had a similar experience where my claim just vanished from the portal. What worked for me was sending a secure message through the UI Online portal - even though it takes a few days to get a response, at least you get an official paper trail. Also, try calling the technical support line instead of the main claims line - they're sometimes less busy and can at least tell you what's happening with your account. Hang in there, you're not alone in this mess! 💪

•This is really helpful, thank you! I didn't know there was a separate technical support line - do you happen to remember the number? And yes, the secure messaging is a great idea for creating that paper trail. Really appreciate the encouragement too, it's been such a stressful situation! 🙏

I went through something similar last month and it was absolutely maddening! What finally worked for me was a combination of things: I called the disability insurance number (not the main PFL line) at exactly 8:00 AM on a Tuesday, and I also sent a certified letter to their Sacramento office explaining the situation. The letter seemed to get their attention because someone called me back within a week. Also, double-check that you didn't accidentally create a duplicate account - I almost did that when I was panicking about my missing claim. Keep all your screenshots and documentation, and don't give up! The system is broken but you'll get through eventually.

•This is incredibly helpful! I'm definitely going to try the disability insurance number first thing Tuesday morning. The certified letter idea is brilliant too - I hadn't thought of that but it makes total sense that they'd pay more attention to something official. And good point about checking for duplicate accounts, I was worried about that when I submitted the second claim. Thank you so much for sharing what worked for you, it gives me hope! 🙏

I'm dealing with the exact same thing right now! My PFL claim disappeared about 2 weeks ago and I've been calling nonstop with no luck. It's so frustrating because I really need those benefits and have no idea what's happening. Reading through these comments is giving me some hope though - I'm going to try the technical support line and maybe that certified letter approach. Has anyone had success with the Assembly member route? I'm thinking about reaching out to my local office since the regular channels aren't working. Thanks for posting this, at least I know I'm not going crazy and this is actually happening to other people too!

•Yes, definitely reach out to your Assembly member! I did that when I was stuck in EDD limbo last year and it made a huge difference. Their staff actually have direct contacts at EDD and can escalate cases that are stuck. Just call their district office and explain the situation - they deal with this stuff all the time. Also, when you do get through to someone (and you will!), make sure to ask them to put notes in your file about what happened to your original claim. That way if it happens again, there's a record. Hang in there, you're not alone in this mess! 💪

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this nightmare! The EDD system has been absolutely brutal lately. Here's what I'd suggest based on my own experience: 1. Try calling the main number (1-877-238-4373) but press 1-2-1 instead of going through the usual menu - sometimes this gets you to a different queue 2. If you have a smartphone, try using the callback feature on their website instead of staying on hold 3. Document EVERYTHING - take screenshots of your portal showing the missing claim, keep records of every call attempt 4. File a complaint with your state senator's office - they have dedicated EDD liaisons who can actually get things moving The disappearing claim thing happened to my sister too, and it turned out there was some kind of "technical error" on their end that they only discovered when a supervisor looked into it. Don't submit any more claims until you get this sorted out though - multiple claims can cause even more delays. You've got this! The system is broken but you'll get through eventually. Keep us posted on how it goes! 🤞

•This is such comprehensive advice, thank you! I especially like the tip about trying 1-2-1 instead of the regular menu - I never would have thought to try that. And you're absolutely right about not submitting more claims, I was worried I might have made things worse by doing that second one. I'm going to start with documenting everything and then try that phone trick tomorrow morning. Really appreciate you taking the time to write all this out - it's so helpful to know there are people who've been through this and made it out the other side! 🙏

This is such a frustrating situation, but you're definitely not alone! I went through something similar a few months ago where my claim just vanished overnight. What ended up working for me was calling the technical support line early in the morning (around 7:55 AM before they officially open) - sometimes you can get through right when they start taking calls. Also, make sure to check if your claim might have been moved to a "pending review" status that doesn't show up in the main portal view. Sometimes there are backend issues that cause claims to get temporarily hidden. Keep trying the Assembly member route too - they really do have pull with EDD. Document everything with timestamps and don't give up! The system is definitely broken but persistence usually pays off eventually. Sending you good vibes that you get this resolved soon! 🤞

•This is really encouraging to hear! I never thought about calling right before they officially open - that's such a smart strategy. And the "pending review" status thing makes total sense, there could definitely be backend issues causing this mess. I'm going to try that early morning call tomorrow and also dig deeper into the portal to see if there's any hidden status info. Thanks for the reminder about persistence too - it's easy to get discouraged when you're stressed about bills, but you're right that keeping at it usually works eventually. Really appreciate the good vibes! 💪
