Need help getting PFL award letter from EDD - any tips to speed up the process?
Hey everyone, I'm trying to get my Paid Family Leave award letter. Has anyone gone through this process recently? Any tips on how to speed things up or what to expect? I've been waiting for a while and could really use some advice.

I went through this a few months ago. It can be a real pain! Have you tried calling the EDD directly? Sometimes that's the fastest way to get an update on your award letter status.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I've tried calling but keep getting stuck on hold forever. Any tricks to actually reach a human?

•I feel ya. It took me like 50 tries to get through. Just keep at it and eventually you'll get lucky!

Pro tip: I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without the endless hold times. I used this site called claimyr.com - it's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•I get the skepticism, but it's legit. Saved me hours of frustration. The $20 was worth it to actually get my issue resolved.

•Can you share more details about how it works? Like, do they give you a specific time to expect the call or what?

•Sure! You choose the department you need to reach, pay, and then they start calling. When an agent picks up, they connect the call to your phone. It can take anywhere from a few minutes to a couple hours depending on hold times, but you don't have to do anything until they connect you.

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes they upload the award letter there before sending it out in the mail.

Here's what I've learned from my experience with PFL and getting the award letter: 1. Be persistent with calling. Early mornings (right when they open) or late afternoons tend to have shorter wait times. 2. Double-check that all your documentation was submitted correctly. Sometimes a missing form can hold up the whole process. 3. If you have an online account, check it regularly. As someone else mentioned, letters are sometimes uploaded there first. 4. Consider reaching out to your local assembly member's office. They can sometimes expedite things. 5. Keep a log of all your calls and attempts to contact EDD. This can be helpful if you need to escalate your case. 6. Make sure your mailing address is up to date in their system. 7. If it's been more than 4 weeks since you applied, definitely follow up aggressively. Hope this helps! The system can be frustrating, but hang in there.

Has anyone had luck with the EDD's online chat feature? I've heard mixed things but wondering if it's worth a shot.

•I tried it once. Waited 2 hours to connect, then got disconnected after 5 minutes. Never again. 🙅♀️

•Actually, I had a decent experience with it last week. Got connected in about 30 mins and the rep was helpful. Might be worth a try!

I'm going through the same thing right now! Been waiting about 3 weeks for my PFL award letter and getting really anxious about it. Reading through all these responses is both helpful and terrifying 😅 I think I'm going to try the early morning calling strategy that @Jamal Brown suggested, and maybe check out that online chat option too. Has anyone had success getting their letter faster by submitting any additional documentation, or is it really just a waiting game once you've filed everything?

•Hey @Angelina Farar! I'm in a similar boat - just started this process myself and feeling pretty overwhelmed by all the mixed experiences people are sharing here. From what I'm reading, it seems like once you've submitted everything correctly, it really is mostly a waiting game unfortunately. But I'm definitely going to try some of these suggestions too - the early morning calling strategy sounds promising, and maybe that assembly member contact idea if things drag on too long. Let me know how the online chat goes if you try it! We can keep each other posted on our progress 🤞
