How long for first PFL payment from EDD? Anxiously waiting!

Hey everyone, I just filed for paid family leave and I'm wondering how long it usually takes to get the first payment? Anyone have experience with this? I'm getting anxious waiting and could use some insight.

In my experience, it took about 3 weeks after my claim was approved to get the first payment. But I've heard it can vary quite a bit.

3 weeks? You're lucky! I've been waiting for over a month now 😫

It really depends on how backed up the EDD office is. I've heard anywhere from 2-6 weeks is normal. If it's been longer than that, def give them a call.

Ugh, the waiting game is the worst! I remember checking my account like 10 times a day when I was waiting for my first payment šŸ˜…

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

Yeah, it actually does! I was skeptical at first too, but I got through to an agent in about an hour. Saved me so much time and frustration.

$20 seems steep just to make a phone call...

I get that, but for me it was worth it. I had been trying to get through for weeks. Time is money, ya know?

Here's what I know about PFL payments from my recent experience: • Once your claim is approved, it typically takes 2-4 weeks for the first payment • Subsequent payments are usually every two weeks • If you opted for the EDD debit card, it might arrive before your first payment is loaded • You can check your claim status and payment history online • If it's been more than 4 weeks since approval, definitely contact EDD • Sometimes they need additional info which can delay things, so keep an eye on your mail/email Hope this helps! The waiting is tough, but hang in there!

Totally agree. And don't even get me started on how hard it is to actually talk to a human there 🤬

Pro tip: if u haven't already, set up direct deposit. It's way faster than waiting for that debit card!

Anyone else notice that the EDD website is always "down for maintenance" when you actually need to use it? šŸ¤”

I just went through this process last month! Mine took exactly 3 weeks from the date my claim was approved. Make sure you're checking the right date - it's not from when you first applied, but from when EDD actually approves your claim (you'll get a notice). Also, if you haven't already, sign up for text alerts on your EDD account - they'll notify you when payments are processed. The first payment usually covers your waiting week plus the current week, so it might be a bit bigger than expected. Good luck!
