FMLA application stuck for a month - no updates, can't reach anyone. Help!

Hey everyone, I'm getting really frustrated with my FMLA application. It's been a whole month since I submitted it and I still haven't heard anything back. I tried calling to get an update on my case but I can't get through to anyone. Has anyone else experienced this kind of delay? Any advice on how to speed things up or at least get some information about where my application stands?

Ugh, I feel your pain. I went through the same thing last year. It took them almost 6 weeks to process my application. The system is so backed up its ridiculous.

6 weeks?! That's insane. How are people supposed to manage without income for that long? 😡

I heard they're understaffed and overwhelmed with applications. Still doesn't make it right tho

Yeah, it was a nightmare. I had to borrow money from family just to get by. The whole system needs an overhaul.

Have you tried reaching out to your HR department? Sometimes they can help expedite the process or at least give you more info about whats going on with your application.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site called claimyr.com. It's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to your phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

20 bucks? Idk man, seems kinda steep just to talk to someone...

I get the skepticism, but honestly, after spending hours trying to get through, it was worth every penny to me. Saved me so much time and frustration.

Just tried it and it actually worked! Got through in about 30 minutes. Thanks for the tip! 🙌

Pro tip: keep a detailed log of all your attempts to contact them. Dates, times, who you spoke to if you manage to get through. It can help if you need to escalate your case later.

This is solid advice. I learned the hard way that documentation is key when dealing with bureaucracy.

Have you considered reaching out to your local congressperson's office? They often have staff dedicated to helping constituents with federal issues like FMLA.

I hadn't even thought of that! Do you know how I would go about contacting them?

Just google your district and 'congressional representative'. Their website should have a 'constituent services' section where you can submit a request for help.

Thanks so much! I'll give that a try.

Okay, let me break this down for you based on my experience as an HR professional who's dealt with a lot of FMLA cases: 1. First, make sure your application was actually received. Sometimes they get lost in the system. 2. Double-check that you've submitted all required documentation. Missing paperwork is a common reason for delays. 3. If you haven't already, inform your employer about the delay. They might be able to put pressure on the FMLA office. 4. Try contacting the FMLA office via email. Sometimes it's easier to get a response in writing. 5. If you're still not getting anywhere, consider filing a complaint with the Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division. 6. As a last resort, you might want to consult with an employment lawyer. Some offer free consultations. Remember, the law requires that employers notify employees whether they're eligible for FMLA leave within five business days of the leave request. If it's been a month, they're well past that deadline. Hang in there, and don't be afraid to be persistent. You have rights, and it's important to advocate for yourself.

Ive been waiting 2 months for my application to be processed. This system is broken af

2 months?! That's insane. How are you managing?

0 coins

Barely. Had to max out my credit cards. This country is a joke when it comes to taking care of its workers.

Anyone else notice how they never have issues processing our tax payments but when we need something from them suddenly everything moves at a snail's pace? 🙄

Preach! 👏👏👏
