FMLA application pending for over a month - need advice!

Hey everyone, I'm dealing with an FMLA issue and could use some advice. My FMLA application has been pending since January 15th, and it's now been over a month with no update. Has anyone else experienced such a long wait time? I'm getting worried about my job security and benefits. Any tips on how to speed up the process or who I should contact?

Ugh, I feel your pain! I went through something similar last year. Have you tried calling the HR department? Sometimes they can give you more info or push things along.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've called HR twice already, but they just keep telling me to wait. It's so frustrating!

Pro tip: document EVERYTHING. Every call, email, and conversation. It might come in handy if things get messy later on.

Good point! I wish I'd done that when I was dealing with my FMLA stuff. It's crazy how long these things can drag on 🙄

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

I was skeptical at first too, but it really did work for me. Saved me hours of hold time.

A month is way too long! Have you tried reaching out to your local congressperson's office? They sometimes have liaisons who can help with federal issues like FMLA.

Ive been in the same boat. its rediculous how slow the system is. I ended up having to take unpaid leave becuz my FMLA wasnt approved in time. Hope you have better luck than me!

Oh no, that's exactly what I'm worried about! Did you ever get it sorted out?

Here's what you need to do to expedite your FMLA application: 1. Follow up with your employer's HR department daily. Be polite but persistent. 2. Ensure all your medical documentation is complete and up-to-date. 3. Contact the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division. They oversee FMLA and can provide assistance. 4. Consider reaching out to an employment lawyer for advice. 5. Keep a detailed log of all communications and attempts to resolve the issue. 6. If your employer is large enough, try escalating to a higher-level HR manager or even the company's legal department. 7. Check if your state has additional family leave protections that might apply to your situation. Remember, employers are required to notify employees whether they're eligible for FMLA leave within five business days of the leave request or of learning that leave may be for an FMLA-qualifying reason. If they're dragging their feet, they may be in violation of FMLA regulations.

The whole system is broken. I swear they make it complicated on purpose to discourage people from using their benefits. Stay strong, OP!

Preach! 🙌 It's like they forget we're dealing with health issues on top of all this bureaucratic nonsense.

I'm going through something similar right now - my application has been stuck for 3 weeks. One thing that helped me get some movement was sending a certified letter to both HR and my manager outlining the timeline and requesting a status update in writing. They seem to respond faster when there's a paper trail. Also, if you're in California, you might want to check if you qualify for state disability insurance (SDI) as a backup while waiting for FMLA approval. Hang in there!
