EDD Family Leave Application: No response after a month. What to do?

Hey everyone, I'm getting really frustrated with my family leave application. I submitted it a month ago and haven't heard anything back. Is anyone else experiencing long delays? I'm starting to worry that something might be wrong with my application or that it got lost in the system. Any advice on how to follow up or what to expect would be really appreciated!

Ugh, I feel your pain! I went through the same thing last year. It took them almost 6 weeks to get back to me. The waiting game is the worst part. Have you tried calling their helpline? It's a pain to get through, but sometimes you can get lucky.

Thanks for the reply! I've tried calling a few times but always get stuck on hold forever. Did you do anything specific to get through?

Honestly, it was just persistence and luck. I called first thing in the morning, right when they opened. Took a few tries, but I finally got through after about a week of trying. Hang in there!

Pro tip: call on Wednesdays. For some reason, it seems to be their least busy day. At least that's what worked for me! 🤞

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this? Kinda skeptical about paying for something like this...

I get the skepticism, but it honestly saved me so much time and frustration. Worth every penny imho. They even refund you if it doesn't work.

I used it too! Worked like a charm. Beats sitting on hold for hours or calling 100 times a day 🙌

Have you tried emailing them? Sometimes that can be more effective than calling. Here's a template I used that got a response within a week: Subject: Inquiry on Family Leave Application Status Dear [Department Name], I hope this message finds you well. I submitted my family leave application on [insert date] and have not received any updates since then. Could you please provide me with the current status of my application? Additionally, let me know if there are any documents or information needed from my side. Thank you for your assistance. Best regards, [Your Name]

This is super helpful, thank you! I'll give this a try. Do you have the email address you sent it to?

Sure thing! It's familyleave@edd.ca.gov (assuming you're in California). If you're in a different state, let me know and I can try to find the right contact.

Have you checked your spam folder? I know it sounds silly, but I found my approval letter there after weeks of waiting. Apparently, their emails sometimes get flagged as spam. Worth a look!

OMG I can't believe I didn't think of this! Checking now... 🤞

Update: Nothing in spam, but thanks for the suggestion! At least I know it's not hiding there.

FYI, there's been a huge backlog due to COVID. They're still catching up. My friend who works at the department says they're overwhelmed with applications. Doesn't make the wait any easier, but at least you know it's not just you!

This is true. I read an article that said applications have increased by 300% since the pandemic started. They're trying to hire more staff, but it's a slow process. Patience is key (even tho it sucks).

Quick question - did you receive a confirmation email when you first submitted your application? If not, there's a chance it didn't go through properly. Might be worth resubmitting if you can't find any proof of the original submission.

Yeah, I did get a confirmation email. At least I know they received it. Just wish they'd tell me what's going on with it now!

Protip: If you can, go to your local EDD office in person. I know it's a pain, but I got my issue resolved in one day after weeks of no response online and on the phone. Sometimes face-to-face is the way to go!

This! 💯 In-person is always faster. Just be prepared to wait in line for a while. Bring a book or something to keep you busy.
