EDD unemployment benefits delayed 3 months, missed urgent call. Employer verification issue. What to expect?

I filed for unemployment benefits 3 months ago and still haven't received any payments. The EDD just called me back and said it was urgent to call them, but I missed the call. They didn't give any details. I found out that my employer didn't verify my leave. I've already contacted them about the verification issue. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I expect when I call EDD back?

Daniela Rossi

Am I the only one who thinks its absolutely INSANE that we have to jump through all these hoops just to get the benefits we're entitled to? The whole system needs an overhaul. ๐Ÿ˜ค

Preach! ๐Ÿ™Œ It's like they make it difficult on purpose to discourage people from claiming.

Totally agree. We should start a petition or something. This is getting ridiculous.

An overhaul seems necessary to streamline the process, benefiting both those in need and the system itself.

I had a very similar experience with EDD. The wait times and lack of communication can be frustrating, but persistence is key. When I finally got through, I found out there was a simple issue with the documentation I submitted. Keep trying and ensure all your documents are verified by your employer. It's also a good idea to utilize tools like claimyr.com, but be cautious of the extra costs. Additionally, contacting your local assembly member can sometimes expedite the process. They have dedicated staff that deal with these issues and their involvement can make a big difference. Remember to document every interaction with EDD, including names and times of calls, and any reference numbers you receive. It's important to certify for benefits every two weeks, even if you haven't received any payments yet. This will prevent additional delays. If possible, try visiting a local EDD office in person as it might sometimes yield faster results. Keep your head up and stay persistent!

Hey OP, just a heads up - make sure you're still certifying for benefits every two weeks even if you haven't received any payments yet. I made the mistake of stopping and it caused even more delays. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

This is crucial! Even if payments are delayed, not certifying can reset your claim or cause more complications.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

$20 just to talk to someone? That's crazy! The system is so broken ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Yeah, I know it sounds sketchy, but I was desperate and it actually worked. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth it IMO.

Claimyr seems pretty effective, but itโ€™s unfortunate we have to resort to paid services to access a public service. Itโ€™s worth considering if youโ€™re really stuck.

Here's what you need to do when you call EDD back: 1. Have all your documents ready (pay stubs, leave verification, etc.) 2. Write down a list of questions you have so you don't forget anything 3. Be polite but firm - the person on the phone isn't responsible for the delay 4. Ask for a direct number or extension in case you get disconnected 5. Get the name of the person you're speaking with 6. Take detailed notes during the call 7. Ask about next steps and expected timeframes 8. If they can't help, ask to speak with a supervisor Remember, persistence is key with EDD. Don't give up! If one call doesn't resolve everything, keep calling back until you get answers. Good luck!

Great advice! I'd add: record the call if you can (check your state laws first). It's helped me keep track of what different reps tell me.

Having a list of questions helps a lot. Sometimes the reps arenโ€™t very helpful, so knowing what to ask can make a big difference.

Unpopular opinion: maybe try going to the EDD office in person? I know it's a pain, but sometimes face-to-face interaction can get things moving faster. Just be prepared for a loooong wait.

This! I wasted weeks on the phone, then went in person and got it sorted in one day. Bring snacks and a book tho ๐Ÿ“š

In-person visits can be time-consuming but are often more effective. Be patient and prepared for a long day.

Plot twist: what if we all show up at the EDD office dressed as clowns? Maybe then they'll realize how ridiculous this whole process is ๐Ÿคก

Pro tip: if you can't get through on the main EDD line, try calling some of the other department numbers. Sometimes you can get transferred to the right person that way. Here's a list of EDD phone numbers I've collected: [List of phone numbers redacted for privacy] Good luck!

I'm in the same boat! Been waiting for 4 months now. It's ridiculous how long this process takes. Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member? They can sometimes help speed things up.

-

Gianni Serpent

No, I haven't tried that. How do I find my local assembly member?

0 coins

Just google "[your city] assembly member" and you should find their contact info. Send them an email explaining your situation. They usually have staff dedicated to helping with EDD issues.

Guys, I'm telling you, Twitter is the way to go. Tweet at EDD and your local reps. The public pressure sometimes gets them to respond faster. #EDDfail #fixunemployment

Ugh, classic EDD. They're always playing phone tag. Make sure you have all your documents ready when you call back. They'll probably ask for proof of your leave and any communication you've had with your employer.

Has anyone tried the EDD chatbot on their website? I know it sounds useless, but I actually got some helpful info from it the other day. Might be worth a shot while you're waiting to get through on the phone.

When you call back, make sure to mention that you've already contacted your employer about the verification. Have any reference numbers or dates of when you spoke with them handy. Also, be prepared to wait on hold for a looong time. EDD's phone system is a nightmare.

Last time I called, I was on hold for over 3 hours ๐Ÿ˜ญ It's brutal. Try calling right when they open for the best chance of getting through.

-

Calling right when they open gives you a better chance, but sometimes it also crashes their system if too many people do it at once. Timing can be tricky!

Has anyone else noticed that EDD seems to be extra slow lately? I've been hearing about more and more people waiting months for their benefits. Is there some kind of backlog or system issue going on?

I read somewhere that they're updating their computer systems. Typical government efficiency ๐Ÿ™„

It's probably because of all the fraud cases they had to deal with during the pandemic. They're being extra cautious now.

have u tried faxing ur docs? sometimes that works better than calling. EDD's fax system is like, stuck in 1995 but at least it creates a paper trail lol
