EDD denied PFL claim, thinks I'm getting full wages but only got 40%. Appeal sent, no response. Help!
My PFL claim got denied because they said I was getting full wages from my employer. That's not true at all! I only got 40% of my salary for about 4 weeks during the time my PFL benefits should have kicked in. I sent an appeal explaining this but haven't heard back. Anyone else deal with this? What should I do now?

Ugh, the EDD is such a mess. I had a similar issue with my SDI claim. They kept saying I was getting full pay when I wasnt. It took forever to get it sorted out. Have you tried calling them? Sometimes talking to a real person can help.

•I've been trying to call for days but can never get through. It's so frustrating! How long did it take for you to get your issue resolved?

•It took about 2 months 😩 But keep trying! I finally got through by calling right when they opened. Good luck!

•Pro tip: call at 7:59am and keep redialing until you get in the queue. Works like a charm 👌

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•Is it legit? $20 seems steep just to make a phone call...

•I was skeptical too, but it really did work for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth it IMO 🤷♂️

Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your pay stubs for the period in question 2. Write a detailed letter explaining your situation, including exact dates and amounts 3. Include any communication from your employer about reduced wages 4. Send everything certified mail so you have proof they received it 5. Follow up with a phone call (use the trick others mentioned to get through) 6. If all else fails, contact your local state representative. They can sometimes help push things along Dont give up! The system is broken but you gotta keep fighting. Good luck!

Have you considered getting a lawyer? Sometimes just having legal representation can light a fire under them. Many employment lawyers offer free consultations.

•I hadn't thought about that. Do you know if it's expensive to hire a lawyer for this kind of thing?

•Some work on contingency, meaning they only get paid if you win. Might be worth looking into!

Ive been dealing with EDD for 6 months now. heres my advice: document EVERYTHING. every call, every letter, every email. You never know what might be important later. And dont be afraid to escalate to a supervisor if youre not getting anywhere with the first person you talk to. Stay strong!

Plot twist: EDD is actually run by a bunch of hamsters on wheels. That's why everything takes so long 🐹🎡

•Hey now, don't insult hamsters like that! They'd probably do a better job 😂

Quick question - did you submit your appeal online or by mail? I've heard the online system is faster, but idk if that's true.

•I sent it by mail. Maybe I should try submitting online too? Can't hurt, right?

•Might as well try both! Double your chances of someone actually seeing it 👀

This happened to my cousin last year. Turns out there was a glitch in the system that was misreporting employer data. Might be worth asking if theres been any known issues like that recently.

This is such a frustrating situation! I'm dealing with something similar right now. EDD seems to have issues with their employer wage verification system. A few things that might help: 1. Make sure you have documentation showing the exact 40% you received - pay stubs, direct deposit records, anything official 2. If your employer has an HR department, see if they can provide a letter confirming the reduced wages during your leave period 3. Check if there's a specific form for reporting partial wage replacement - sometimes EDD just needs it in their exact format The appeal process is painfully slow, but don't give up! I've heard some people have success reaching out to their state assembly member's office for help navigating EDD issues. They sometimes have direct contacts that can expedite things. Hang in there - you're definitely not alone in this mess! 💪
