PFL Claim Denied for Final 5 Weeks After Initial 3 Week Approval - Help!
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble claiming the remaining weeks of my Paid Family Leave (PFL). I was approved for the first 3 weeks, but now I'm trying to claim the final 5 weeks and keep getting denied. I don't understand why this is happening. Has anyone else experienced this or know what I should do? Any advice would be appreciated!

Ugh, that sucks! Have you received any specific notices or letters from EDD explaining why the final 5 weeks were denied? Sometimes they hide important info in those boring documents 🙄

•No, I haven't gotten any specific notices. Just keeps saying 'denied' when I try to claim online. It's so frustrating!

•Damn, that's rough. Maybe try calling them? I know it's a pain, but sometimes you gotta talk to a real person to figure out whats going on.

•Calling EDD? Good luck with that 🤣 You'll be on hold for hours!

I had a similar issue last year. Turns out there was a glitch in their system. Have you tried submitting a new claim for the remaining weeks instead of trying to extend the existing one?

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny tbh.

•I've heard about this! My friend used it and actually got through. Might have to try it myself.

Here's what you need to do to resolve your PFL claim issue: 1. Gather all your documentation: Make sure you have all your claim numbers, dates of leave, and any correspondence from EDD. 2. Check your eligibility: Ensure you haven't exceeded the maximum PFL duration (usually 8 weeks in a 12-month period). 3. Verify your claim status: Log into your EDD account and check if there are any pending tasks or additional information required. 4. Contact EDD directly: Call their PFL hotline at 1-877-238-4373. Be prepared for long wait times. 5. Consider filing an appeal: If you believe the denial is incorrect, you have the right to appeal within 30 days of the notice date. 6. Seek help from a workers' rights organization: They can provide free advice and assistance with your claim. Remember, persistence is key when dealing with EDD. Don't give up!

have you tried turning it off and on again? 🤣 jk jk... but seriously, sometimes logging out and back in to the EDD site can help. Their system is about as stable as a jenga tower in an earthquake

OP, what reason did you give for your PFL? Sometimes they deny extensions if the reason doesn't match the original claim. Like if you said it was for bonding with a new child, but then tried to extend it for caring for a sick family member.

•It was all for bonding with my newborn. That's why I'm so confused about the denial.

•Huh, that is weird then. Definitely sounds like you need to talk to someone at EDD to sort this out. Good luck!

EDD's system is a joke. I swear they deny claims just to see if people will fight back. Stay strong and keep pushing! 💪

Have you checked if your employer submitted all the necessary paperwork? Sometimes they drop the ball and it messes up our claims.

•I didn't even think of that! I'll check with HR tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion!

Ugh, I feel your pain. I'm in the same boat with SDI. These government systems are like trying to nail jello to a wall 🤦♂️

I went through something similar with my PFL claim last year. One thing that helped me was requesting a detailed explanation of the denial in writing. Sometimes there are specific issues like missing documentation or eligibility periods that aren't obvious from the online system. Also, if you're within the 8-week maximum for bonding leave, you might want to check if there's a gap in your claim dates that's causing the system to treat it as a separate claim rather than a continuation. The EDD customer service is rough, but if you can get through, ask them to check your "claim history" - sometimes there are backend issues that only they can see and fix.
